I do see some ramblings here, but Silas was an important figure for the formation of the Christian Church (people). However, the "controversy" over Silas's name being penned as Silvanus is merely the fact that the epistles are written in Hellenistic form which Silas is a contracted form of Silvanus, not a nickname. This page consists of a somewhat rambling opinionated piece about a Biblical character I know nothing about. Could someone clarify this? -- Modemac

What the heck is this 'article' supposed to be about? It seems to be a rambling essay on the biblical character, but without much point. I'd vote for deletion or removal to meta. KJ

What's this ????

It should be kept, although I'm not sure if much can be said about the Biblical Silas: he appears only a few times in the Bible. Concerning "Silas the footballer", I assume he has a last name, & once it is learned perhaps his information should be moved to that article. -- llywrch 19:38, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

What of his death being in 50 AD? I'm pretty sure Acts 18 is later than 50, at least 52. Further, if Silas is the same person as Silvanus, he would seem to be living when 1 Peter was penned. Of course we have no certainty of when he died, but 50 seems unreasonably early. Any suggestions?--Aolrnin (talk) 15:22, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

...[edit]

I actually found this quite useful... seeming as how i've been called silas for some time now and never knew who he actally was.

What is the right pronounciation of this name?? is it Seelas or Sailas????

Merge[edit]

Should Silvanus of the Seventy be merged here?--Andrew c 22:13, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Silas was an important man[edit]

Silas was a prophet. He helped Paul on several missionary journeys during the early church. He had good standing in the church and this is the reason he was choosen by Paul and God.

Picture[edit]

Is the picture in this article a joke? It appears to say: "Believe or the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved". I don't speak or read Russian, but even using Google Translate the source of this picture does not seem very trustworthy... Bertrand77 (talk) 07:41, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's definitely "Believe on..." StAnselm (talk) 08:02, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Anne Catherine Emmerich[edit]

If you want to WP:CITE her, then cite her under a section entitled Mysticism. But definitely not in a section about the Bible and definitely not in a section dealing with real-world history. Emmerich-Brentano did not write WP:SCHOLARSHIP, they wrote mysticism. As historiography and Bible scholarship it's just garbage. To put it otherwise, her writings are WP:RS for her own views only (and even that much has been challenged), but not for objective historical facts about the ancient history. tgeorgescu (talk) 00:59, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
