Mathematical Models?[edit]

I think that the mathematical models/equations, rather than the specific software tools that calculate them, would be more interesting when describing how to determine contact angle and surface energies.

Surface Tension[edit]

Several wiki pages (such as the "Wetting" page) state that the terms "Surface Tension" and "Surface Energy" are interchangeable. With that in mind, is it really necessary to have a page on each? If the two terms are NOT interchangeable, then there needs to be some serious editing on these other pages to clarify which is which. Branfish 12:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Units[edit]

P is the tension and has units of force (N). dl has units of length (m). The product is N-m (work) and has units of energy. Bbanerje (talk) 20:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

cutting to make surfaces[edit]

I'm not sure that the discussion on cutting apart a solid is helpful, it provides no intuition. The usual explanation for surface energy is not that the bonds have been mechanically ripped apart. Rather it is simply that the matter near the surface is unable to organize and bond in the same manner as it does in the bulk. (How it got there is unimportant.)
