User has reverted homosexuality six times in under 24 hours many of which we now consider to be vandalism since user is deleting factual information to insert his POV and censor all others. Can an admin please issue a very stern warning to user or block? Thank you. Apollomelos 22:40, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I am not quite sure, but I have noticed another user who was blocked temporarily for vandalizing pages I was working on and then impersonating me had an ip from VA. He created:

Notice these new ips and users attacking pages that I work at present are also from VA:

Apollomelos 23:10, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC) It appears the user may have taken to online gay-bashing. This is an excerpt from Abraham Lincoln's talk page by user Abelincoln98 :*This is yet another disgusting attempt to misrepresent an important historical figure in hopes of advancing the homosexual agenda. Similar attempts were made to hijack the personal lives and reputations of everyone from Jesus Christ to Shakespeare to Alexander Hamilton to James Buchannan, Lincoln's predecessor in the White House, to Adolf Hitler and even Yasser Arafat. That this book attempts to besmirch Lincoln's repuation and character by falsely portraying him as gay is not surprising considering the book's author was both a homosexual himself and a research assistant to the discredited Alfred Kinsey. He's just trying to project his own sexual perversions onto one of the nation's greatest presidents. Apollomelos 23:23, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC) Please note a report by another user reagrding this vandal from jan. 27th. Apollomelos 23:29, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Isaac Newton (article)
  • Similarly, Isaac Newton appears to be attracting numerous acts of minor vandalism from a range of single edit IPs. However, quite a lot of people are probably watching this page. Curiously, today's vandals, User:167.206.233.5, appears only to have made one edit, yet apparently received a vandalism warning from User:Hadal 10 months ago. So perhaps there is a problem with Special:Contributions. -- Solipsist 17:07, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
    • Watched too, just for the heck of it. The empty special:contributions is probably because the page they vandalised was up for VfD and got deleted, once a page gets deleted edits to it disappear from RC and S:C. --fvw* 17:27, 2005 Jan 31 (UTC)

Please help stop this Wacky Vandal.--Pharos 06:11, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC) Hitting Zionism as well in the last few minutes.--Pharos 06:42, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Many (all?) of these IPs appear to be open proxies, so in theory the person(s) responsible could continue this indefinitely, or until s/e/they exhaust the proxy list being used; page protection seems to be the only effective measure, but of course, that's only temporary. There used to be a mechanism that'd autoblock proxies when a user tried to edit with one, but that was soon disabled. I'm not sure why, but it probably had to do with AOL and other legitimate proxy-utilising ISPs. Wish I could help more. -- Hadal 06:30, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, the proxy-blocker scanned everyone editing, and got some (rather silly) complaints from ISPs. There is talk of bringing it back on a limited scale though. The way I see it this is going fine though, there aren't that many open proxies, eventually we'll have the majority of them blocked. Make sure to check for proxies when blocking though! (just plugging the ip surrounded by quotes into google is enough to find out of it's an open proxy in 90% of the cases). --fvw* 06:37, 2005 Jan 23 (UTC)

      • The above was added by (67.138.164.62 | talk | contributions), presumably on the basis of this: [5] I only see this one page, not "several pages", and I don't see any contribution or talk page where Superking allegedly wrote "It's not MY fault they let any idiot edit any page", nor do there seem to be any prior instances of vandalism by Superking. The limitation of block time is only for range blocks, which limit large swaths of AOL's IPs, and hugely increase the chance of innocents being blocked. --fvw* 01:29, 2005 Jan 19 (UTC)

Perverted-Justice.com-related

  • Owner of anti-PJ website Corrupted-Justice.com has created an organized effort to take over Wikipedia Perverted-Justice.com article. This involves multiple users, but primarily is led by Scott Morrow, author of complaints such as the one below towards User XavierVE's attempts to rectify the malicious edits.
  • Removes link of "Corrupted-Justice.net", a website critical to his own. Exaggerates truth of his own website being "silenced" as it is, and always has been, listed as an external link, and has never been "edited out". He has also seen to it that several pro-PJ media articles have been removed from External Links and from within the body of the article.
  • Removes several entire paragraphs of positive content, factual information about police involvement, and other information that is non-complimentary to his own personal negative viewpoints on Perverted-Justice.com, totally violating NPOV
  • Morrow and his CJ.com staff are the sole authors of complaints against User: XavierVE, below. I believe that anyone fairly analyzing this situation should take into light both complaints towards the edits.
  • As a bystander to this fued, I believe that speculative personal information about Perverted-Justice.com's owner should be removed entirely, unless there is proof offered in the piece towards it's truthfulness. Likewise I believe the original author (Shimeru), who had a very unbiased piece and is not decidedly on either side of this debate, should restore the article and possibly even lock it from further editing.
  • Sooner than create an organized attempt to edit this Wikipedia entry towards any one party, the original author (Shimeru) should come back and create a version to be respected by both parties. If Scott Morrow still feels it is "biased" after that, he and his associates can create their own Wikipedia entry to air their own criticisms. Only in this situation may there be objective fairness, a solution you will not see Scott Morrow (below) suggest. Instead he ask that you ban XavierVE, thus rendering the fate of the Wikipedia article to people decidedly biased against Perverted-Justice.com with no vocal retort. This, I believe, is inexcusable. Please look into this situation and judge it fairly. (I will likewise report attempts to modify this Vandalism in Progress entry to remove my comments made here)
  • Same user as previous problems from January 8 - 67.169.194.181 - Now registered as "XavierVE"
  • Continues to remove non-complimentary information about perverted-justice site, completely violating NPOV
Continuously removes reference to most vocal opponent, corrupted-justice.com from list of critics in "cons" section
Re-added multiple external links to PJ site after they were removed by Sysop
Continues to insert personal details (full names, etc) in various locations throughout article in direct violation of Wikipedia "No Personal Attacks" rule. ("Negative personal comments" and "threats or actions which expose other Wikipedia editors to political, religious or other persecution by government, their employer or any others.")
  • I would suggest there is little possibility that this article can remain NPOV, as XavierVE insists on revising whenever he sees something he doesn't like.

  • adding vandal remarks to Latency.(not fixed)
  • It would have been easier to have fixed them than to have reported it here. When an anon makes only one or a few edits, we consider that they are testing their ability to change pages. The correct action is to revert the change, and leave a polite message on their talk page suggesting that they use the sandbox. The template {{test}} is very suitable for this. Most anons stop when they see the message. We do not call their activities vandalism unless they continue after being asked to stop, or they are particularly nasty or rapid-fire in their edits.-gadfium 23:01, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • This article is still undergoing vandalism by anon IPs. However, as of today the pattern is now hit and run... each anon IP strikes only once, without making any further "contributions" anywhere else to Wikipedia, which makes admin blocking by IP pointless. This is an unusual pattern: most often anon vandals strike at several articles in a brief spree, reply to Talk warnings, hit user pages of reverters, etc. I wonder if it might be the same person or group, using open proxies. It's worse overnight when fewer people are reverting. Last night the article stayed partly broken for hours... perhaps the broken window phenomenon just encourages more vandalism. -- Curps 00:37, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

216.148.246.90 is for marketscore.com, an internet accelerator proxy that also collects marketing data as a user surfs the internet. Their membership agreement [11] prohibits anything that "harms or harasses others". Does the Wikipedia have any policy for complaining to ISPs for problem Wikipedia user-editors? According to spamcop.net, the correct abuse reporting address is abuse@attens.com. marketscore.com also has its own abuse address on their website abuse@marketscore.com. gK ¿? 04:02, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It looks to me like the edits of this user are not vandalism but attempts to express his/her view of history. The link to ebay is an attempt to back up the view, not an advertisement. I'm not qualified to say whether the point of view is factual, but I note that both you and this user responded with links to back up your views when I asked in the Lucas David article, which leads me to believe that you are both genuine. You would be better raising a request for comment on the articles involved than in repeatedly claiming vandalism.-gadfium 22:05, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)
"I'm not qualified to say whether the point of view is factual" - me and Space Cadet gave you answers on the Lucas David article... But ok.. i see its better to reverting than ask admins to stop such vandals.--Emax 22:23, Jan 2, 2005 (UTC)
I looked at your links, and I looked at their links, and I decided that this required far more time to study than I wanted to spend. What the links showed me was that you were all genuinely trying to get a factual article, and none of you were trolling. The appropriate way to proceed is to ask on WP:RFC for people with more knowledge of the situation to get involved. If your viewpoint is the factual one, then protecting some of these articles with your version may be the best solution. Banning the IP addresses may also work. Just maybe, there's a possibility that a compromise wording may be found.-gadfium 22:37, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You need to engage this user on the talk page. Point out the NPOV guidelines and ask for sources for their information. At the moment, this looks like someone enthused to be contributing to Wikipedia, but not aware of our policies, not a vandal.-gadfium 22:25, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Is there any way to see a list of page moves done by a user? If so the template for reporting vandals should incorporate it. -- Curps 11:15, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

User:%AD%AD%AD%AD (nonprinting characters)

Someone is vandalizing Jew in very ugly ways. As I understand it, as a person involved in the page I am not supposed to protect it. Someone needs to. -- Jmabel | Talk 06:55, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)

Furthermore, this person has somehow hidden his/her IP address without taking a visible name. Maybe a name composed of non-printing characters? Anyway, I don't know how to identify and block. Why on earth would we allow non-printing characters in a user name, though: only useful for vandalism. Is this a policy matter or what? -- Jmabel | Talk 06:57, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)

Same issue on September 11, 2001 attacks. Identical vandalism, presumably same person. -- Jmabel | Talk 06:59, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)
Here's how you can see user contributions. [12] The user name consists of four non-visible characters, all hexadecimal AD. Presumably you can set up a block by pasting the four characters manually into whatever input you have (I'm not an admin, I can't do it) Antandrus 07:03, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Just found that, too, but pasting "%AD%AD%AD%AD" doesn't work. Says no such user. Anyone know how to do this? -- Jmabel | Talk 07:04, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)
You need to get the actual characters on a clipboard. I have no idea how to do that under Linux, which I use. Pakaran (ark a pan) 07:09, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I would say this is a urgently needed patch. Only standard ASCII for usernames, methinks. Antandrus 07:09, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
As a temporary measure, I've requested that both pages be protected. Maurreen 07:19, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
My impression is that he's stopped because I've blocked him. Am I wrong? - Nunh-huh 07:22, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Probably you were just ahead of me. I'll remove the request for protection. Maurreen 07:24, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I was really wondering...since all I did was cut and paste his name, I wondered [1] if the block was successful, and [2] if so, why did everyone else have such trouble blocking him? - Nunh-huh 07:28, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
What OS do you use, out of curiousity? Pakaran (ark a pan) 07:49, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Chan Han Xiang

  • Something bizarre is going on here. User appears to be vandalizing his own user pages and sub-pages, moving them to weirdly named articles in the main namespace. I've blocked this account for 24 hours; either Chan Han Xiang has gone bananas, or his account has been hijacked. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 05:31, 1 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • Ok, I'm done. His other recent activity was trying to get one of his twice-deleted articles undeleted. If he moves his personal pages into the article space again, I'm not going to bother moving them back before deleting them. --—Ben Brockert (42) UE News 07:09, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)

Seems that the same IP (propably originating from a school in Casper, Wyoming) has earlier done similar things (7 Dec 2004, 12 Oct 2004, 11 Oct 2004, 4 Oct 2004), so the risk of future repeats seems real. -- Egil 04:00, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
