Welcome![edit]

Hi Punkmorten, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

- Mailer Diablo 11:06, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Another welcome[edit]

Hi there; welcome to Wikipedia! By the way: might you by any chance happen to be a Norwegian? (By guessing after looking at your contributions, I thought perhaps you might be.) If so, consider putting your username alphabetically into the list of Norwegian wikipedians. There's almost 80 of us by now (and counting...). :-) (If you're not a Norwegian, please ignore that stuff, of course.) --Wernher 02:14, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for expanding the list with the people you told me about. Shouldn't be a problem, unless some of them turns out not to be Norwegians after all. :-) I notice we've now passed twice the number of 'list-registered' Swedes---but I do suspect that there's really more Swedish Wikipedians here than Norwegians (or maybe most Swedes with a wikigene are over at the admittedly large Swedish Wikipedia?. --Wernher 19:11, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good, good. I also checked the "list of Swedes" :). I tend not to care about the Norwegian Wikipedia myself. But more will be added to The List later. Punkmorten 19:15, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good call on dealing with the stubby little Karin Smith article. Joyous (talk) 17:48, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

redirects[edit]

Hi, it helps if the article you are redirecting to actually exists before you create the redirect - Tero Pitkamaki doesn't point anywhere that exists, so is likely to be deleted. ~~~~ ( ! | ? | * ) 09:51, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Serious Business Records[edit]

Hm. Thanks for the heads up. Makes me wish I was an admin :) I'm taking a look at it, though.  RasputinAXP  talk * contribs 16:54, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Phew. Sorry it took so long, but I finally got around to cruising through all of them. It's a shame because the guy who co-founded the label meets WP:MUSIC (he's on Allmusic, as are two of his bands) but everything else is just local NYC bands that I've never even heard of. The Village Voice has, though. I wouldn't consider them particularly notable anymore. But yeah, ready for cleanup detail now.  RasputinAXP  talk * contribs 14:28, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you for your "thank you". You welcome. These articles are only brief, but it's better than nothing. Your contributions are very good. Articles such as Iván Pedroso are needed here. - Darwinek 11:46, 22 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there[edit]

Straight to the point: Ease up on nominating for VfD, please. You appear not to investigate the slightest bit before putting articles up for deletion. I am thinking specifically about the UK Subs article. Punkmorten 19:28, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback; I am listening. I do agree that a couple of the noms were badly researched. However, your broad generalization of my total VfDs is itself poorly researched, as is evident by many of my other noms and votes. Not to worry; we all make mistakes. I intend to learn from mine.
I have only been VfD-ing for a day or two now (had to learn the process), so "we ask that you please bear with us at this time." As I monitor new articles, I am learning more sources for research (in addition to Google), and am also starting to use more clean-up tags (rewrite, context, etc.) I am also learning to anticipate more objections to my VfDs and arm myself with more thoroughly developed arguments for proposing deletion. I intend to challenge some of the Wikithink that inhibits what I believe to be a too-timid disposition toward deleting.
Expect to see great improvement in my mastery of the fine art of deleting. Thanks again. Paul Klenk

Football in Belgium[edit]

Athletics[edit]

Hi. I am just a fan. I like all events, especially dramatic ones such as long jump at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. Btw. I love the Olympic Games (especially summer) and that Olympic Spirit. And FIFA World Cup is another my favorite event. I am always a fan of teams from Africa, Asia, Central America and other "underdogs". How about you and football? - Darwinek 08:05, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rather no. I know him only as a director of IAAF, but I think he was in past an athlete, but I agree with you. Lamine Diack article is needed. - Darwinek 11:12, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. :)

I agree with you that there are severe problems with the Pop punk article. It seems that people think that disliking certain bands or the perceived ethics of certain bands is reason enough to remove them from the list - challenge them and you get the tired (and pointless) poseur/sellout arguments which lead nowhere useful. I'd like to see the list remain - I consider it to be a useful resource. However, at the moment it seems to be more trouble than it's worth to maintain as NPOV. I can't see the problems going away with a separate list either. Reluctantly, I agree that the list of bands has to go - do you want to open up discussion on the talk page, or shall I? --Kurt Shaped Box 15:14, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Korean name order[edit]

Good morning, and enourmous thanks for your efforts to counter systematic bias. (I mean, what Wikipedian would write about female Azerbaijani sport shooters if you didn't?) I do have a question, though, and it's regarding Korean biographies such as Jong Su Kim. From [3] it is clear that Kim is his family name, which means that by native Korean name order he is Kim Jong Su. Now, I know that some people prefer to reverse name order when the name is used in a Western context (as is done with Hungarian names), but are you sure this is Wikipedia policy when it comes to Koreans? It seems from the Personal name article that it is in a few sports, such as baseball and golf, but I don't really know about shooting. All official documents (results, records etc.) avoid the question by using "KIM, Jong Su", which we really can't do on Wikipedia. In my wikification of such information I have retained the name order for Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese names, and only reversed it for Hungarian and Japanese names. I have not found any solid policy for this, and would be glad to do so if possible. Perhaps it should be discussed att Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (names and titles). Athletes[edit]

I think we should make a list, but not only for "former Kenyan" athletes. I propose to make a list for all "nationality transfers" in athletics (for example Rashid Ramzi Morocco --> Bahrain), but we should think about proper name for that list. Any ideas? - Darwinek 14:40, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That's good idea, but we should distinguish from "allegiance transfer" and only nationality transfer such as Rashid Ramzi. I propose we should put link to that list under "See also" to every article about athletes included in that list. - Darwinek 16:34, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
"Allegiance transfer" is that famous-infamous transfer when athlete from poor country changes nationality for rich country and his only motive to do so are money. "Nationality transfer" is common practice in changing nationality. For example Rashid Ramzi was born in Morocco, competed for Morocco. Then he went to Bahrain to join Bahraini army and then (when he lived couple of years in Bahrain, he changed nationality). Kenyan athletes are changing their nationality (allegiance transfer), but they were only once or twice in Bahrain or Qatar, that's all. - Darwinek 17:21, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That second version without specific reasons is very good. So, go ahead and when you will create it, then inform me. P.S. Athletes like Eunice Barber (born in Sierra Leone, competing for France, but grown up in France) should not be included. - Darwinek 18:02, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Great job Morten! Congratulations. - Darwinek 19:56, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just another idea. Do you think we should create a list of pole vaulters who reached 6 m ? - Darwinek 11:10, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Do you think List of pole vaulters who reached 6 metres would be good? And how about the table. One thing is clear, athletes should be sorted descending, from best to least best.
Name of athlete Nation Result
Sergey Bubka  Ukraine 6.14 m
Brad Walker  United States 5.96 m

Or without "m" ?

Name of athlete Nation Result
Sergey Bubka  Ukraine 6.14
Brad Walker  United States 5.96

Shins changes[edit]

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you've redirrected a number of stubs to The Shins article, effectively removing the articles. If you wish articles to be deleted, you must go through the proper channels, it is not up to you do decide that these articles are not useful, and so redirrect them without any discussion. Please review your wikipedia etiquette. The idea of stubs is that they are expanded over time with helpful contributions, in the long term they will hopefully become better articles. I have reverted your changes to these articles, if you'd like to discuss it, I suggest using The Shins discussion page. Thankyou. --Brendanfox 05:36, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is the stubs are created with the idea that they are expanded on in the future, and indeed this is something I hope to eventually get around to. When I realised there were 'other reverters' thats when I wrote to the Shins discussion page, I initially wrote to yours because I wanted to make sure we had some discussion, I just don't like it when all the discussion is through edit summaries. I do apologise if I caused you any offense, --Brendanfox 09:50, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I see you created a stub article for Ted Snyder. I was wondering if this self-published person's career justifies inclusion in an encyclopedia at this time? I've used the space for Hall of Fame songwriter Ted Snyder with all of its existing links but you may create another for Ted Snyder (singer) if you think it is warranted. Thanks. Nick Clarke[edit]

Just curious, why the redirect of that article with the "" instead of speedy delete? No one is going to search for "nick clarke" instead of just Nick Clarke without "". Garion96 17:07, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I just thought that redirects are cheap and it would be a good thing to relieve the speedy deleting admins. Punkmorten 07:32, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I didn't thought about the poor admins. :) Just thought it would get rid of a useless article. Oh welll..either way is good I guess. Garion96 10:18, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged thisfor a speedy delete. It seems that this is in fact the name of a character associated with Hello Kitty as that wikipedia article shows. I have converted it to a redirect. Also you tagged this with {{d}}. Please in future use {{db}} and state your mreason for suggestign a speedy delete, or else use one of the many specific db- tags that pre-supply a reason. Thank you. DES (talk) 08:40, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I could have tagged it as {{empty}}. Punkmorten 10:21, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You could have. But it wasn't. It was short, but it had context. i could have expanded it into a full stub about the character. i chose not to, because I don't really approve of stubs for minor fictional characters. Please be careful when tagging speedys that there really is no meanigful context in a short sub-stub. Now I hope this doesn't come across as hostile -- it isn't intended that way. I do thank you for doing RC patrol (or however you found this page) and for tagging speedies when you find them. But speedys unlike AfD depend on only teo sets of eys, so if yours is going to be one set, please take an extra moment to double check. Thanks. DES (talk) 10:49, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding how I found the page: From time to time I browse Special:Newpages and look for short (less than 400 bytes) articles. On good days I end up expanding some 50 % of them :) Punkmorten 10:55, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

But before doing this, we should create a template for the representation of the squads, shouldn't we? Julien Tuerlinckx 10:17, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Finished a rewrite now - at least it's slightly more NPOV. Think there's something rather odd with the categorisation of "small-place" articles, though - Category:Sections of Bærum is in the main Norway category, which seems a bit odd. Bands and WP:NMG[edit]

Wow. That's a lot of bands, and very little notability. One or two of them seem to have mentioned that they toured outside of their own states, but some of them even border on Speedy (if we had a confirmed A8 for bands and groups). Hello again, and thanks for yet another sport shooter bio! I won't argue with the spelling here, as I'm not aware of Mongolian spelling rules at all. I've used the Dorjsuren variant because that's what she is called now, as a German citizen, but of course, she accomplished many of her best results as a Mongolian, so it probably makes sense to have her at the original spelling. What I'm wondering is what your sources are for her being retired. This must have happened very recently then, as she was present at the 2005 ISSF World Cup Final in August this year (finishing 9th in 25 m Pistol). Delron Buckley[edit]

Hello. I know you created this article, maybe you could help me to work out the right thing to do. On the English Wikipedia, Delron Buckley is indicated as being a South African soccer player. But on the German Wikipedia, it appears to imply that he is also a German soccer player. I was just going to translate the article through from the German Wikipedia, and thought this might pose a problem.

Does this indicate that he is of dual nationality, or is this merely a mistake on the English Wikipedia? Thank you. Bobo192 07:38, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Punk, I just came back from wikibreak and saw this...Buckley's South African, see Yahoo's profile on him. He's a German soccer player inasmuch as that he's playing for Borussia Dortmund right now, but he played for South Africa in WC2002.  RasputinAXP  talk contribs 12:24, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Punkmorten said:

As far as I know there are no mistakes in the English version. I think he is categorized as "Fußballspieler (Deutschland)" because he, having lived in Germany since 1994 or so, is not counted as a foreign player anymore. On consideration I decided not to include him in the German footballers category. He's not quite Otto Addo, if you know what I mean.

The article is already translated from the German version, so there's not really much important to add I reckon. Instead check out the stubby Christian Wörns, and Sebastian Kehl who doesn't even have an article :)

This sorts the issue. Thank you very much. I think we'll leave him as a South African footballer as per his international loyalty. If my plans come to fruition the German footballers category will be far too crowded anyway :D. Wörns and Kehl are coming in due course, I'm steadily going through the list. Hi! You're totally right. I added this redirect page to point to the right article. Actually my point is to have an article for every "matricule" (club) who played in the first division. The name of each article is the last name the matricule bore before its liquidation, or the current name. I sometimes do make mistakes about this as the club history in Belgium is quite large for a small country!

But as I was saying to me before you sent me your message we should have for each matricule a number of pages equal to the number of different names the matricule bore, each page redirecting to the actual article. This is far from being done but it will come one day. Furthermore I was thinking of putting every name the matricule bore in bold in the article...

Thanx for your attention to my work. See you, Julien Tuerlinckx 21:10, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship?[edit]

Hi Punkmorten! I have in one sense been "stalking" your edits because I think you are an excellent contributor. I was about to ask if you would like to be nominated some months back, but then I saw that you were planning on leaving us... Glad to see that you have not left :-) Anyway, I think that your work here is so good that you definitely ought to have the admin tools, so I have set up a request for adminship for you, and hope that you'll accept it. If you do, you'll need to answer the questions and add it to the top of the main Wikipedia:Requests for adminship page. At any rate, Godt nytt år! Sjakkalle (Check!) 10:56, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your acceptance looks good and your answers to the questions are good as well. I am listing your RFA nomination on the main RFA page now. Good luck! Sjakkalle (Check!) 07:24, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Foo at the 1964 Summer Olympics[edit]

This is an exciting project you're embarking on. Thank you, and good luck! Punkmorten 10:07, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I tried starting with 1896 Summer Olympics and going through chronologically, but when I'm not at school (that is, right now), I don't have access to detailed results of them. 1964 is the first Olympiad with an official report that contains full names of all competitors. Athletics at the 1900 Summer Olympics went so much quicker than the 1964 one ;). -- Jonel | Speak 19:21, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of the 1900 Olympics, shouldn't Norway have the same flag as Sweden, i.e. the Union Flag? Punkmorten 19:29, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I originally thought so, too. However, according to Flag of Norway#History,
"But as the union with Sweden became increasingly less popular, the Norwegian parliament abolished the union badge from the national (merchant) and state flags in 1899. At the dissolution of the union in 1905, the badge was removed from the navy flag as well. Sweden kept it in all flags until 1905."
I took that to mean that Norwegian athletes would have used the flag without the union badge, though I'm not entirely certain. Did I read that right? -- Jonel | Speak 19:38, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 09:57, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright: Newbie question: See what you think please[edit]

Punk, if you have time I'd like you to have a look at the recent work I've done. I'm particularly interested in what you think of the copyright status of the images I've uploaded. In spite of having read the policy on copyright of images several times, I'm still a bit unsure about copyright tags.

Obviously the ones I have made myself like Modernartificialgrass2.png and PortugalAF2.png are mine to post, even when derived from or inspired by other images.

I think the two other photos on the Portuguese Air Force page are in the clear too, as see the copyright info referred from the image pages.

I am a bit uneasy about 2pula.png and 2pulab.png. The rules on money seem unclear, seem to vary from country to country, and I was unable to find specific information about the rules for the specific country in question. On a common-sense basis that the image of the currency is public-domain and that the particular note is no longer in circulation, I think it qualifies as fair use. What do you think? Would adding a 'Specimen' text over the image be advisable?

In the case of Botswanasskairport.jpg I understand the use of the image here to be in keeping with the copyright owner's wishes and have emailed him to confirm he agrees with this.

As a photographer myself I am keen to avoid infringing on anybody's rights or on any Wiki policies, which is why I'm asking you to have a look.

If there is anything I can do to help you in return, please say so. Thanks Guinnog 18:31, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I translated article about Svatopluk Pluskal (cs:Svatopluk Pluskal) as you requested. I would really appreciate your help with wikifying. --Jan Smolik 20:21, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for copyediting the article. Anyway, I have got a problem with one of your changes. You changed the name of the city (Plzeň) in which Pluskal worked as coach to the name of football club FC Viktoria Plzeň. I checked it and found out that Pluskal was coach of Škoda Plzeň and Slovan Plzeň. For more complications, Škoda Plzeň is former name of Viktoria Plzeň. So now there are more options and I am not sure which is more usual in wikipedia. Either use name Plzeň as name of the city (he was without any doubt coach there). Or write Škoda Plzeň (as more famous of those tho Plzeň clubs). Or leave there Viktora as it is the same club as Škoda. Or write there all clubs he coached, making it a complicated list. What do you think is the best? --Jan Smolik 23:57, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Bjarne Brustad.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bjarne Brustad.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. -- Longhair 12:21, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Olympics again[edit]

Hi again! I just came across Iran at the 1900 Summer Olympics. Shouldn't that page be named Persia at the 1900 Summer Olympics? In any case, that flag wasn't used back then. Regards, Punkmorten 21:34, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. All the sources I've seen (and have belatedly added to the article) have used Iran, so I went with that. It is, of course, an anachronism and I would have absolutely no problem with the page being moved. Also, I couldn't find a historically accurate flag—do you know if there's one around somewhere? Thanks! -- Jonel | Speak 01:33, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I have a question about blocking, as I'm inexperienced in this field. User:Ravithisis made a grave personal attack here, [5], may he be blocked now? Punkmorten 17:05, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Punkmorten! Sorry about not being logged in for a few days. THat kind of edit is definitely either vandalism or a personal attack so blatant that it easily qualifies as disruption. Since he had been warned twice about vandalism and removal of AFD notices before, I dont think that a block would have been out of line. Personally, I am a bit conservative with blocking people under the "disruption" clause, and probably would have warned with a {{{subst:attack}}- or {{subst:Npa3}}-template, as Mangojuice now has done, and then blocked if there were more trouble. At any rate, if you are unsure whether you should warn or block, go with the warning. The effect of warning someone who should have been blocked is usually less serious than the effect of blocking someone who should only have been warned. Because proposed deletion is encouraged for non-controversial issues. Does Simon Cursitor dispute the prod tag? I'm sure his point was to avoid a speedy tag, because it didn't fit any speedy criteria. Punkmorten 17:01, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki[edit]

Hi! Thanks for creating articles about Slovenian municipalities. Unfortunately you forgot to include interwiki links... see for instance my edit to Žetale. Thanks, Punkmorten 14:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aww - I'm sorry dude. I thought it was some sort of incredible and magical bot which did that. I'll be happy to go over the articles and add the links if you could tell me a little more about the procedure. How do you ascertain which Wikis have a similar page? Celcius (Talk) Wiki be With us! 14:31, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's true that bots do it to a certain extent, but to get the job done I (for one) prefer to include them manually when creating an article. My general rule of thumb is this: Write a link to the "native" language Wikipedia (in this case: [[sl:Žetale]]) and check if it exists. Usually the article will exist at least in the "native" language, if anywhere. If it does exist, copy the rest of the interwiki links stated in that article (in this case, it ja nl ro & sv). Again many thanks for creating the articles :) -- Punkmorten 14:39, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want this image deleted? It is a scan of a logo badge in my collection - there is nothing wrong with the license for this image. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rhyddfrydol (talk • contribs) .

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Josefa Idem, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Hi! I'm trying to get four-time Olympic medalist Josefa Idem fetured in Did you know. Please feel free to improve the article, especially the preamble. Thanks, Punkmorten 13:45, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on the DYK! It was featured there before I got a chance to look at it, and was already excellent. Am I reading the image description on it: correctly to guess that the image's copyright status is incompatible with en: policy? -- Jonel | Speak 20:00, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Punkmorten - I'm wondering what you thought of some of the clubs in this category. Some of them are B-grade state league teams - meaning that they are 2 divisions below first-class level in a country where we have only qualified for the FIFA world cup in 1974 and 2006. They are amateur clubs. Regards, ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! 07:16, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

Hey. I translated this article into English as you requested: The Kråkerøy Speech. Maybe you could have a look at it for me? I'm not sure how to hook up links between the pages properly, or how to remove the translation request or put it in completed translations or whatever it is you're supposed to do. But if you think it's ok i'll have a look at putting more of your ideas into English. Thanks, Paul. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Forgot2follow (talkcontribs) .

You prodded this page. I just wanted to let you know I've removed the prod and rewritten the page, using Adriano as a model. Steve block The wikipedian meme 13:10, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Decimal point[edit]

I see you've been doing some lake translations from no: to en: - thanks, I've done quite a few, but there are ever so many to go! One thing you ought to know: on en: the decimal separator is always "." not the Continental "," so you have to convert the number formats too. There's something to explain this in the Manual of Style. Hope that helps! TheGrappler 12:00, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch footballers[edit]

Hi, I'll try and get started on translating some of those articles later today, or otherwise this week. Cheers, jacoplane 14:57, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Some of them aren't very long, but I don't really know any Dutch :) I can read some of it though. Punkmorten 18:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maarten Stekelenburg - I've created this footballer's article which you requested. However, it's just a stub, nor is it translated directly from the Dutch article. But I thought I'd let you know. Mark272 22:23, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FIFA Pro Licence[edit]

Just to say thanks for tidying up my first attempt at starting an article. Robertsteadman 13:26, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for the thanks :) It was a great first article. Punkmorten 11:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I began a new article Cawdor Quarry but WP labelled it Cawdor quarry so I have set up two - how do I either have a redirect to Cawdor Quarry from the other or siomply delete Cawdor quarry?

Thanks. Robertsteadman 18:13, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Desp[ite seeing it reffered to as the FIFA PRo Licence in several places (and hence the title of the article I started) I have since discovered it should be the EUFA Pro Licence - how can the article be renamed? Thanks. Robertsteadman 06:37, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting very confused about this - several things refer to it as FIFA, several others as UEFA. The WP article about Glenn Roeder says FIFA - shall we leave it as that for the moment? Robertsteadman 19:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bjorli[edit]

Hi! Someone moved Bjorli to Bjørli. This doesn't seem right. See User talk:Arctic hobo. Punkmorten 11:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for flagging this change. I researched the official Lesja site and then reverted. Interesting change—usually folks' instinct is to change it in the opposite direction. Williamborg 15:33, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Riksforsamlingen[edit]

Hello Punkmorten; I have had a go at translating the Riksforsamlingen page that you requested. Please review it for me - I have added some background and etymology, to help English readers. I have kept the title in Norwegian, since there is no accurate English translation that I know of - if you know of one, a REDIRECT page could be made from that to Riksforsamlingen. All good wishes Ballista 05:51, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Riksforsamlingen translation[edit]

Hi - I'm contacting you, as this was your 'baby' originally. Please can you visit User talk:Pilotguy and look at my message about Riksforsamlingen edit. A change has been made to the text of the article, which changes the sense. It is important to know which is correct, as they are so different, despite only one tiny word having been added. Can you help with the history? Can you let us both know your verdict? Please respond on my User talk:Ballista page and on User talk:Pilotguy. THANKS :-) Ballista 04:42, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kew Jaliens and his place of birth vs. birth/death date MoS[edit]

Hi there. I too instinctively would prefer to include the person's birthplace in the initial birthdate parentheses, but I have since learned that this counterdicts the English Wikipedia's Manual of Style. See here: [8]. So we should separate birthplaces from the parenthesized birth/death dates, as I did initially in this article, but which you changed. -- Mareklug talk 18:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I didn't know that. It seems meaningless for short stubs though. But that is just my personal opinion. Punkmorten 20:02, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My intention is to get them started and let others expand because as soon as the red links are gone then I've essentially acomplished what I wanted. Kingjeff 21:47, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

iw links[edit]

Hi, I noticed you told me to include the int wiki links in the articles I just created. Is there an easy way to know they exist in other languages other that checking one by one in each international wikipedia? Bruno18 21:50, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. The thing is that I didn't copy from the french wikipedia, I was doing the articles "manually" using the format from the Peruvian football federation and adding the right info (like foundation, affiliation, etc.) from CONMEBOL's site. I will take a look at that IW link checker. Thanks. Bruno18 21:59, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

footy-stub[edit]

Hi. When I created new footballer articles recently, I copied and pasted the stub types and categories from the one I created previously and then changed them accordingly for the new article. At some point, (possibly Ivan Leko) I had accidentally added an extra stub that wasn't needed and it went undetected for quite a few articles. But I think they've mostly been removed now. Overdabbing[edit]

Hi, thanks for your comment and concerns. I don't want to overexplain this, but the bottom line is that this overdisambiguation is extremely useful to me while I am working on this project. There are literally hundreds of names to track, and spelling everything out helps me to create disambiguation pages properly, as well as cross-reference the articles and collect the links in a more effective manner. All raions currently have a disambiguator added to their names, even when it seems to be unnecessary—this way I don't have to re-check every single edit I make within the project, thus speeding things up overall. Rest assured, I will be removing the redundant portions once the project is completed, but right now it is still too early. Thanks again for your interest and please let me know if you have further questions.—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 16:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nice answer! I want to help out; are there any English-language sources for this? Punkmorten 16:34, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, I don't really know—for obvious reasons I prefer using Russian sources. My guess would be that whatever English sources you find are not going to be completely up-to-date. I usually update information in existing articles within a week after the Russian government publishes a list of changes (and they do it more or less on the monthly basis); I wouldn't suppose anyone out there is so interested in the topic as to provide a translation just as fast. However, if you wish to help, I may have something in stock that you would be able to do, if you are interested. Take a look at this project, for example. I kind of abandonded it in the middle, and other participants do not seem to be very active either. Whatever interests you there, feel free to dive in. It is a lot easier to find reliable and accurate English sources on Russian federal subjects than it is on smaller administrative divisions. Another task is creating city/town templates for the oblasts already covered here (the republics and most of the krais are already done; see {{Cities and towns in Krasnodar Krai}} for an example). Again, thanks for your interest, I much appreciate it!—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 16:48, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AP German Language[edit]

Why did you delete the AP German Language article? Ng iman@USA 00:02, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It had no content whatsoever, except for the templates. It thus fell under the Criteria for speedy deletion, point A3. And I see that it had been recreated, still without content, so unless expanded it will be deleted again. Punkmorten 08:23, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering if you could take a look at Riksmål, recently USER:ALDRI MER 1814! made an edit comparing the the removal of riksmål as a national language too ethnic cleansing, a bit far out I thought, but he provided a reference to a Dagbladet article. But the article doesn't mention riksmål nor Norwegian language history, so I removed the edit as unsourced. But Aldri mer 1814 reinstated his edit, and left what I though has an insulting remark on the talk page. I though about listing the article on RFC, but since most Wikipedians can't read Norwegian it would be difficult for them to give a third opinion on the reference, so I though I would ask you first. På forhånd takk --Eivindt@c 03:58, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!
Found a little bit about Sogndal, Rogaland but not much. The web is quite thin. Only one of my history texts mentions it. And I don't have any of the bygdeboker from the area, so did the best I could with what's available. Will keep an eye out for more information.

Translation of article Dainis Kūla[edit]

I have begun translating the article Dainis Kūla from the finnish article fi:Dainis Kūla, but as this is my first real article I am not sure how I should go about it. Should I post incomplete translation to the article page or should I wait until I have translated the whole article? I came to you because you requested the translation.
