Googlebomb[edit]

As a result of a Googlebomb, a search for kretyn (a derogatory in Polish meaning dumb or idiot) at google.com, returns the page of Andrzej Lepper as first in the list of results. Balcer 17:00, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

"Samoobrona and Lepper play on disillusionment of millions of poor citizens and on the fear of EU accession." altough i agree, i daresay this sentence isnt exactly neutral.

He has nothing to do with Le Pen[edit]

So I edited that stupid remark.Lepper is a workings man hero!Dzoni 00:19, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Small peasants' and poor workers' representative, that is of people who were unable to find themselves in the new economy Was he right or not that is a different question ...

He obviously has! They're both populists!

But the article was saying that he is "a friend of Le Pen".Thats what I was refering to,since he is not friend of Le PenDzoni 17:14, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He also became Vice President of Polish Goverment, thanks GodDzoni 17:16, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andrzej Lepper was not "Vice President of Polish Goverment" (such position does not at all exist) but he was one of Deputy Prime Ministers

LEPPER BECAME VICEPRESIDENT OF GOVERMENT,SO DONT YOU REVERT IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!Dzoni 00:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andrzej Lepper was not "Vice President of Polish Goverment" (such position does not at all exist) but he was one of Deputy Prime Ministers

you mean he became the deputy of prime minister, right? because there is no such thing as vicepresident of government. you seem to be as educated as he is. and why is there no mention of his criminal convictions? i think i will add that myself.

BECAUSE THOSE SO CALLED "CONVICTIONS" ARE ALL POLITICAL,BECAUSE HE IS SO BRAVE TO FIGHT AGAINST THE COMUNISTSDzoni 15:21, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He was such anti-communist activist that he was a member of Polish Communist Party, don't be ridiculous Dzoni. Lepper was convicted for criminal crimes (such as beating). --Tompot 22:47, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Factual errors and neutrality[edit]

This article is severely lacking in neutrality, I'm affraid. While yes, the points in this article are perhaps what make Andrew stand out on the political scene in the common man's eyes, only the negative points are mentioned. The impression I personally get from reading this article is that someone tried to spew as much negativity as possible.

Apart from that there are definite factual errors.

"Samoobrona ("SO") and Lepper have successfully tapped into the disillusion felt by millions of poor citizens who have not benefited from Poland's entry into the European Union."

While poor citizens were a secondary (or even tertiary) target, the propaganda only vaguely referenced Poland's entry to the EU.

"Many SO voters live in small towns and villages with high unemployment rates, and therefore believe that they have lost out in the transition to the free market economy after 1989."

While the citizens of Poland may or may not believe so, SO does not and has never advocated a strongly planned economy. The text doesn't make that clear. If you take a look at SO's program, it advocates social liberalism and economic social-democracy, and is quite similar to PiS'.

"However, Lepper is often criticized for not acknowledging the economic growth Poland has experienced since then."

Despite the economic growth the percentage of citizens engaged in farming (on small and medium-sized farms) isn't decreasing as fast as it should. I believe the mentioned critics (I'll confirm if a citation is provided) fail to acknowledge that.

"Using strongly populist messages" Note: populist yes, but only up to year 2000 or so. About that time his image and political style changed.

"managed to gain nationwide publicity and a strong following in the countryside, where he is regarded as common man." This is close to saying only idiots and farmers voted for him. I suggest actually taking a peek at the map - one would notice SO was voted on primarily in eastern Poland and had over 50% votes in cities like Bartoszyce or Białystok.

"Lepper and SO opposed Poland joining the European Union, but stopped short of running a fully fledged "no" campaign, on account of the popular predisposition of the Polish population towards EU membership." Which is, I'm affraid, complete nonsense. The official slogan was "Yes, but on different terms" - Lepper did not agree to the production limits set by the comission in regards to milk and grain, which he considered unfair, considering that Poland had an unproportionately large percentage of the population engaged in farming and agriculture in compare to western countries. Lepper realized the economic advantages of being an EU member but wanted to devote some more time for negotiations.

"Lepper's anti-EU stance was based in part on nationalism," It wasn't anti-EU..

"Some of his many famous quotes are that "It is impossible to rape a prostitute" [1] or "I see myself as a positive dictator" [2]. "

Famous yes, but I'd rather put the second one in context. Not exactly the mostpositive quotes one could find, I'd say.
