The France section is not factually exact and missing information[edit]

The beignets made from choux pastry are called Pets-de-nonne (nuns' farts), other beignets are not made from choux pastry at all but usually from yeast pastry and there are at least 15 different types of them in France. There is for example the beignet breton from Brittany region is made with apples and cider, the Beignet des halles de Limoges, the Beugnon from the Berry region, the bottereau in the Vendee region, the Bougnette in Roussillon region, the Bugne from Savoie, the Bunyettes from Perpignan, the Chichi frégi from the Mediterranean region which looks like churros but taste different, the Corvechet from Lorraine, the Crespet in Bearn, the croquignolle in Pithiviers, the Faverolle ou frivolle in Champagne region made with milk, the Foutimasson from Vendee and Poitou, the Fritelles from Corse made with Brocciu cheese and so on.

They have different shapes some are like balls, lozenges, long and flat..

ADD: The doughnut hole was invented in 1974 by Dunkin' Donuts manager Edna Pratt and franchisee owner Bob Demry. The product was branded as "Munchkins" after the diminutive characters in the popular film "The Wizard of Oz". 2601:245:C102:7470:14DE:D8FA:4691:D559 (talk) 01:32, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Doughnuts are unhealthy?[edit]

This is a sweeping and not very logical statement attached only to one reference. Doughnuts are not poisonous. Where properly made they are (usually) a treat food providing mostly fuel and not much nutrition, and they should be consumed in moderation - like everything else.

Can I suggest that the statement that they are unhealthy should be replaced with a more nuanced statement about what they contain and what function they play in a diet?

I have just spent some time trying to encourage an underweight person to eat more sweet snacks if that is what she feels she can take in. She has been so pressured to think these snacks are bad, and that she's bad if she eats a lot of them, that the fact that at this moment simple, sweet food is exactly what she needs, is not getting through. If she added several doughnuts a day to her current food intake, that would almost certainly be a considerable improvement to the healthiness of her diet in her current circumstances.

It does matter that what is written on food recognises the subjectivity of what is needed, and therefore of what is "healthy" in different circumstances. FloweringOctopus (talk) 07:38, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If anyone is interested, an image of an Italian ciambella should be added to the ciambella page (note: Italian ciambella, so not American donut, etc.). JacktheBrown (talk) 10:20, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
