Karl Holz[edit]

You do not need to explain your actions on the Karl Holz page - the quote you deleted was ridiculous and completely POV - it may be true, but it has no place in any encyclopedia. Thanks ever so much. --Speedway 18:24, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bronx - poorest county allegation[edit]

I put this reply after your post on the Talk:The Bronx page, but also copied it here for your information:

You are right. According to the United States Census Bureau data for 2003 (MS Excel format), Bronx county is 349th out of 3141 counties in the United States in median household income. Scanning thru the lowest 100, I could not find a single urban county. I doubt that the 2005 figures have been released (2003 is the most recent on census.gov), and even if they had, I can't imagine that it could have changed that dramatically. The statement in the article needs to go. I will remove it. --rogerd 20:41, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Football World Cup has been selected as this week's collaboration. Please do help in working to improve it.

Can you go to Talk:Hanover 96 and oppose the extra n? Kingjeff 22:33, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it to correct it. You realize that you're voting over adding 1 n to the name? Kingjeff 02:55, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • You realize that the Hanover 96 situation was never about being technical? It was solely about being reasonable about it> By the way, thanks for participating in the conspiracy against me. Kingjeff 01:02, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will not comment again after these remarks: I was being reasonable in that I read the page you linked me to, matched the conversation against Wikipedia Policy, and voted accordingly. I did not, and do not, know of any conspiracy involving you, my first contact with you being when you solicited me to vote (for your point of view) on the page about Hannover 96. I have made no contact with anyone else involved in the Hannover 96 discussion (feel free to check my contributions; you will notice a lack of any remarks on anyone's talk pages who was related to the discussion) and none of them have written here (check My Talk History if you don't believe me.) You came to me asking me to vote a certain way; I read the page and voted a different way. The "conspiracy" begins and ends here. Might I suggest that if you don't value my input, you don't solicit me for votes. My part in this conversation thus ends. Nach0king 01:15, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liège crime stats[edit]

Yes, I have a source, but in french.

http://www.proxiliege.net/index.php?page=article&id=488&idrub=24

Google auto translation here : http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.proxiliege.net%2Findex.php%3Fpage%3Darticle%26id%3D488%26idrub%3D24&langpair=fr%7Cen&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools

Many media talked about that here, because Liège is far to be a dangerous city. You cannot compare it with big metropolis like paris or london of course.

Hi! Is that your review I'm quoting in the references of the 3DMAZE article? Or is that a different nach0king? --BACbKA 11:45, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes, sadly you caught my inexact reference :) Nach0king 12:33, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind... it is a nicely written review anyway. I myself had never heard about the PLATO games and the Battlezone before I began researching material for this article. Isn't that what makes WP cool --- learning such bits while writing articles? As for the FPS/FPA thing, it could very well be that you're correct here and the WP "FPS" category definition an dinclusion criteria are wrong. See the article talk page and the talk on the linked in peer review entry for this and more issues on which help is actively sought. (BTW, if you're a native speaker, maybe you could at least weigh in on the problematic 2nd-person language in the gameplay section?) --BACbKA 12:38, 27 January 2006 (UTC) Please ignore if you don't have time, and sorry for asking again, but, at the very least, could you please just say which of the two variants there sounds better to your taste? We've just had finished the second Peer Review, and I'd love to resubmit to FAC once all the known issues are closed. TIA, --BACbKA 17:56, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. "Tra-la-la-la! (Here we go again...)" I've just resubmitted it to FAC, you're welcome to vote there!.. --BACbKA 18:22, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. At the start of January you added the copyvio tag to the above page, but you didn't state where you thought it was a copyright violation from. Do you remember? If so, could you please add it to the page. Thanks. --TheParanoidOne 11:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cinema in Scotland[edit]

Have you seen this re-nomination at Cfd: Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_January_28#Category:Cinema_of_Scotland_--.3E_Category:Scottish_actors_and_filmmakers--Mais oui! 04:35, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This may be a forlorn hope, but I'm hoping you might re-consider your vote on this discussion.

My main concern is that trying to separate into English and Scottish cinema is wreaking havoc with the category scheme, because none of the articles are divided that way. Having separate categories really requires separate articles on each, not a shared lead article as we have at the moment. And as long as Cinema of Scotland exists, someone will create Cinema of England in response. And its very difficult to delete one and not the other.

As I understand it, you are saying that Cinema of Scotland can be used for articles that are only about Scottish cinema. If we have articles like this in the future, I don't think anyone would object to the category being recreated. But as we don't have any at the moment, we are really creating problems for ourselves unnecessarily. JW 22:06, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I asked you because I had a feeling you would probably understand the rationale. I had considered the drastic step of re-writing the articles to fit the categories, just to make them work, but its obvious now there wouldn't be the support for this either, which leaves the category scheme as neither one thing or the other. Recreating a deleted category shouldn't be a problem when there's a demand for it. But I'm going to nominate these categories for renaming back to the Fooian cinema format anyway, as I think this is now the agreed style for culture articles. So hopefully it would be Scottish cinema and not Cinema of Scotland anyway. JW 23:42, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just got your note about Utopia and I was confused...then I remembered that the great thing about Wikipedia is that your work lives on long after your memory of it. It was nice to get a positive note, mate, makes me want to go edit a bunch of stuff.--TheGrza 00:17, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Utopia[edit]

Do you have references handy for your recent contributions to Utopia? I'm thinking I could pull up a couple if you don't, but it will be a while - I'm pretty heavily engaged with another project at the moment. Anyway, the reason I ask is that I've seen contributions like this get removed as original research, and I think you might be going somewhere worthwhile with it, and would hate to see it squashed. -Seth Mahoney 23:27, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's not original research. I did learn most of it at university but in this case I learned it from someone else ;). I don't actually know if my lecturer published anything on it but I'll find out for you. In the meantime, Manuel & Manuel's "Utopian Thought in the Western World" is a good starting point. I was going to fully reference the whole thing once I was done with it (check my article creation to see that I honestly do reference!). But, thank you for bringing a sense of urgency to this. I will do my best to provide references sooner (within the week) rather than later. Nach0king 23:35, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear there's another editor who quotes their sources out there! I haven't come across "Utopian Thought in the Western World" yet. Maybe I'll check it out when other stuff blows over. -Seth Mahoney 23:38, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's a mighty tome but much of it's well worth reading. The chapter on Rousseau I found particularly refreshing. I have a good reading list somewhere, I'll dig it out for you sometime :) Nach0king 23:42, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great. Utopias are one of my ongoing interests, so I'd be glad to add anything you can recommend to my reading list. -Seth Mahoney 23:44, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rosneath[edit]

Well congrats on the millionth. I actually just noticed your mention, on Mais Oui's talk page, that you are interested in Rosneath. I thought you might be interested that apparently the West Highland White Terrier breed was sometimes known as the Rosneath Terrier. There's a brief mention of it on the breed article. It doesn't seem especially important but maybe worth a mention on an a short article about a small place. --JGGardiner 00:30, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How much for web kiosk and/or WiFi at JOR?[edit]

Would you please find out how much it would take to donate a web kiosk and/or public WiFi to the Jordanhill station and post the information to Wikipedia talk:Jordanhill commemoration? Thanks in advance. --James S. 16:13, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any previous attempt I've made at contacting the relevant authorities regarding Jordanhill has been met with absolutely no response. I very much doubt that they'd be willing to accept outside donations for something like this. Even for something as simple as providing a brief run-down of alterations to the station is seemingly too much work for the powers that be :) Nach0king 17:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this is a rather important discussion for editors interested in Scotland-related articles, especially Scottish politics and Scottish biographical articles (particularly local history). Please have a read and ponder, and contribute to the debate if you like. Thanks. --Mais oui! 17:50, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Journalists calling again[edit]

A fellow from Scotland on Sunday is writing a piece on Wikipedia and Scotland and wanted to contact you as the creator of Jordanhill railway station - I don't have an email for you, but you can get him at mmacleod at scotsman dot com. For this Sunday I assume, so the sooner the better! - David Gerard 16:47, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-script: we are currently undergoing peer review, see: Wikipedia:Peer review/Scotland.

I am beginning to think that the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board is not the best vehicle for pushing up the quality of the Scotland article (we ought to try to get it to WP:FA, in order to get into Wikipedia:Version 0.5, or, failing that, Wikipedia:Version 1.0), and the other key Scottish articles. It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that we really ought to start up the long-mooted WikiProject Scotland.

Most of the stuff at the notice board (at least on the bottom half) is actually WikiProject material anyway, and the Talk page is really being used as a WikiProject talk already! The notice board should be just that: for bunging up brief notices and signposts. I am thinking of launching a Wikiproject and correspondingly radically clearing out, and chopping down, the noticeboard (a re-launch if you like). The Scotland Portal concept is fine (but currently mediocre/undynamic content), but in stasis: it needs a good kick up the jacksie.

For comparison, have a look at:

Thanks very much for the barnstar, greatly appreciated. The photies are a bit of an indulgence, sometimes I feel a bit guilty about filling so many bytes with my efforts. However I'm very glad to have been spurred by Wikipedia into taking on wee photo projects – a long time ago I was in a camera club, and it's useful to have a subject suggested. Some of the photos taken this year are historic already, sadly enough: the Greenock sugar warehouse doesn't look the same now. Wish I'd taken more when the shipyards were around. So, the pleasure's very much mine. Thanks again, ..dave souza, talk 22:12, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Levadiakos badge.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Advice[edit]

While I thank you for your advice, I am only attempting to keep poor content out of the article, op eds are not worthy of adding and the original edit was not a correct reflection of the content, it is not notable unless anything comes of it and I assure you nothing will, a ticket fine now that is notable. I am ready for it. I will only use policy Off2riorob (talk) 12:27, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All the op ed commentary is excessive, please remember it may be important to you but that does not make it a notable issue, as I said imo unless there is any further action then your addition is totally excessive, you have turned it into a coat rack of morality and it is clearly not that at all. Off2riorob (talk) 12:32, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Its rubbish, sorry but it is, opinionated coatracking of what is perhaps important to your life, its an off the cuff comment that will mean nothing, there will be nothing ever heard about it ever again, the so called complaints will be thrown in the bin, I can hear them laughing now. I will look at it later and remove the pov and the op ed blog citations. Off2riorob (talk) 12:42, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Research survey invitation[edit]

Greetings Nach0king-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 04:17, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dornoch F.C. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG, non-notable amateur football team.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Millionth article interview[edit]

Hi Nach0king, I'm a long-time volunteer who is now working with the WMF on their blog. The ten-year anniversary of the one millionth article is in a couple days, and I love to run a quick interview with you if you have the time! Some questions:

  1. Were you actively trying to create the one-millionth article?
  2. What caused you to pick Jordanhill?
  3. How did you feel to be part of such a historic moment?
  4. What do you think has gotten better on Wikipedia in the last ten years? Worse?

Thanks for your time, Ewan. Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 04:57, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
