OK, oops, I created another one bec. I saw no link at Buddhist Texts, which now links to Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana. I thought I looked, but didn't find. The one I created has more cites and links. Now, I suppose we should combine them. However, before we do, I have a little problem. Might come from my ignorance. But maybe not. It seems to me that if the text is indeed written from the perspective of the essence-function paradigm, we should probably quote something from the treatise to that effect and then take the position that it was almost certainly an East Asian work, not an Indian one. There is no evidence that the Indians had an essence/function paradigm, did they? Alternatively, I don't actually know if if is written from the perspective of the essence-function paradigm. Maybe it isn't. Or maybe that is itself a sectarian claim rather than supported by internal textual evidence--e.g., maybe "Chinese Mahayana tradition holds that the text is written from the perspective of the essence-function paradigm"? Else I suggest just drop the claim, if cite, tradition, or internal evidence not available.

Also, the remark about "One Mind in Two Aspects" is rather mysterious, and a quote from Suzuki (1900) is in order.

Finally, I find "one of the most important texts" to be problematic, especially considering (as I understand it) that it's not normally considered a canonical text. Show it's important and trust the reader to come to the right conclusion. --Munge 04:43, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)
