1919 mob & racial expulsion[edit]

It would be nice if someone would research this history a bit and add it to the article. The following NPR story is fascinating:

@MariAdkins and Sbmeirow: It would be excellent if what could be touched on? Looking at your contributions, I'm guessing that you mean Corbin's history of being a sundown town... which I just learned about, and which casts light for me on an incident in the summer of 1967, which I spent in and near Corbin with the Ethical Culture Society's Encampment for Citizenship program.

MariAdkins, I've just restored the comment you were replying to. The history shows that Sbmeirow deleted it, no doubt accidentally, in inserting the "Important Tips" section above at 00:02, 7 May 2012.

@MariAdkins: I didn't expect that you would. In any wider context it was no more than one pebble in a quarry.

I grew up in NYC. What happened is that our racially mixed group was meeting, I think in a church, with our counselors and some local people, maybe learning about the Poor People's Corporation. One of the counselors interrupted the meeting and said that we were going to go back out to the parking lot in a group, stick together, get into the bus, and drive back to our building (whatever: details are sketchy after so long), and not say anything no matter what.

There was an angry crowd outside, not shouting but muttering and talking. We were not physically attacked, but we heard words like "nigger-lovers". So...

I don't expect that the incident was ever written up publicly. Thank God, there was no physical conflict, no injury, no damage, and no flare-up of any kind, and I'd be surprised if you'd ever heard of it. But, for me, this article and this talk page have cast light for me on the context and background of that incident. --Thnidu (talk) 18:40, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Town name[edit]

Do not change the town's name to "Corbin" or King Corbin". Yes the town supposedly renamed itself for one day as part of a wrestling promotion https://www.sescoops.com/kentucky-town-renamed-to-honor-king-corbin/, but that day has come and gone. It's back to just "Corbin". Meters (talk) 23:37, 13 January 2020 (UTC) but the owner is dead who is the owner now👇[reply]
