I saw on the news about a year ago that Henirk was awarded an honourary Doctorate by the university of Glasgow, should this be put in the article? Denis. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.192.8.106 (talk) 11:49, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

12 years apart[edit]

He scored in the final minute of the match against England for Sweden to draw the match 2-2 in their final game in the group stages, thus becoming only the fifth player to score in World Cup finals which are 12 years apart. This is incorrect. Uwe Seeler, Pele, Maradona, and Laudrup had already made this list. Al-Jaber joined the list on June 14 with his goal against Tunisia, meaning that when Larsson scored his goal against England on June 20, he became the sixth player to score. --Salmon 10:04, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cape Verdean footballers[edit]

He´s not cape verdean, even if he´s from Cape Verdean origin. I don´t think he should be in this category. User:Mistico

Oh Ok, if you say so ;) Just FYI he is from there but he seems to have taken his mother's last name. Maybe because his Dad ran away when he was young, who knows.

I've read a couple of times that the reason he was given the name Larsson (his mother's) is that his parents thought that as a black kid, he would stand out enough in Sweden without having a foreign name as well, thats also why he was named Henrik, even though he is actually named after his uncle Henrique. I'll look for a reference for this but if someone else finds one first so much the better! 82.40.194.148

Discrepancy with David Beckham on world cup feats?[edit]

I note that there has been an edit to the Beckham page, with a summary as follows: (Removed false claim; 21 players have scored in 3 world cups) from User:ChaChaFut. I have no idea if it is correct, but this page still states that Larsson is the fifth player to do it. Can someone verify what the real picture is? If it is as presented here I'll revert the Beckham edit. I have left a similar note on that page too. LeeG 23:30, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I have edited a few players. I am also concerned on all the different versions I have seen here on different pages. I have posted this in other pages, but I will repeat it here hoping this will help us get it right. ChaChaFut 00:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Players who have scored in at least three world cups
(First 14 not necessarily in exact order)

  20. Ronaldo 1998, 2002, 2006
  21. David Beckham 1998, 2002, 2006

P.S. If anyone finds this inaccurate, please provide comments and corrections. Thanks.

I find it interesting. And a well done work - if accurate. But did Pelé score in 1962 and 1966 ? And Baggio in 1998 ? Al-Jaber, which country (all could do with country, by the way)? And what about Paul Breitner (W.Germany) , who are among the very few who has scored in two different WC-finals, 1974 and 19982 - didn't he score at all in 1978 ? (question). This could be something for our List of FIFA World Cup records article, if proven correct Boeing720 (talk) 22:43, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

4 world cups-12 years apart[edit]

Larsson scored in World cups which were 12 years apart. The confusion posted in the last thread may be due to the assumption that as world cups are 4 years apart then the number of world cups in that time was 12/4 = 3 but there are actually 4 world cups. The first in 1994, one in 98, then '02 and finally, 12 years on, the fourth in '06. So Larsson is one of a very limited number of players to score in a world cup and then to do so again 3 world cups (12 years)later.

edit: in '98 Sweden wasn't qualified to World cup

Feyenoord, Celtic and Helsingborg Career[edit]

The article is far too top heavy on his (very) brief loan stint at Man U and also on his Barca career. For a properly balanced article, much more should be made of his seven seasons at Celtic, his difficulties with Feyenoord and his favourite and current club Helsingborg. In short, I would contend that it concentrates on his two perceived 'glamour' clubs. Charlie odd 10:58, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I'm a United fan and I know that the main part of this article should be about his 8 successful years at Celtic and not his short spells at United and Barcelona however successful he was there. 81.153.133.82 15:13, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Barcelona spell is covered properly in my opinion. I appreciate this phrase would be considered weasel words in the actual article, but Barcelona was probably the two most successful years of his career. I've taken steps to reduce the emphasis on the United stint (it doesn't dominate the lead section anymore), but it's still too long in my opinion. I daren't do the whole lot in one go or the article might be reverted or badly edited for POV reasons. The Celtic section requires expanding, I'll leave that to someone more knowledgeable on the subject.

For the record I am a United fan and I worship the ground he walks on for what he did for us, but Wiki is NPOV and at the end of the day it was only 12 (fantastic) games.BeL1EveR 10:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Article[edit]

I've done quite a bit of cleanup on this article and think it's now worthy of good article status. Cleanup included:

  • Addressing the awful lead section.
  • Deleting unnoteworthy material, particularly in the Manchester United section.
  • Flagging content that required sourcing.
  • Lengthening the Early Career and Celtic section to give the article better proportion.

If someone from the good article page is reading this, I'm in the process of finding sources for the places I have flagged.BeL1EveR 11:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA review[edit]

Firstly, before we begin the review, let's have a look at the previous reasons why the article failed it's last GA review:

  • Lead appears to be okay, although I am worried about the following sentence, "Henrik Edward Larsson MBE [IPA: 'hɛnrɪk 'lɑːʂɔn] (born September 20, 1971 in Helsingborg, Skåne, Sweden) is a Swedish football player" - You don't need to say "(Helsingborg, Skåne, Sweden)" because it later says in the sentence that he's a Swedish football player so the reader will assume that he was born in Sweden. I would suggest it reading "[...] (born on September 20, 1971 in Helsingborg, Skåne) is a Swedish football player currently playing for Helsingborgs IF."
  • References look okay, so I'll checkY that.
  • Copyedit - The article reads and flows well. checkY
  • The other points also appear to be taken care of. checkY

Now, I'm going to put this on hold until the following are addressed:

  • Lead sentence, see first bullet point above
Done Already done, but I believe country of birth should be given, as for example Eugen Bopp was born in Ukraine but is a German footballer. Mattythewhite 17:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Succession boxes should be organized, see Damon Hill as an example.
Done Give as awards. Mattythewhite 17:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The categories should be alphabetized.
 Done Already done. Mattythewhite 17:58, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are the flagicons in the infobox really necessary?
Done I think they make it look ugly and they apparently distort the infobox in some browsers so I've removed them. Mattythewhite 17:47, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also try and suggest for future FA candidacy, this review is no exception:

  • The personal life section could do with a major write up, nothing about his parents, ie their names and his (if any) siblings, brothers or sisters?, or if not state that he was an only child.
  • There isn't a career stats table. Although I do admit finding such data could be hard those of you with games such as Football Manager 2007 will be able to at least get the league appearances down.

Anyway, see to the four points (Lead, Succession boxes, Categories and flagicons) and I'll pass this article.--Phill talk Edits Review this GA review! 09:58, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for seeing to my concerns MattytheWhite. I'll now pass this article. Please can you (or someone else) review this GA review. See sig. --Phill talk Edits Review this GA review! 09:50, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contract dispute[edit]

Now that the page is subject to less editing about his loan spell, I'm looking to improve the history sections further, with a view to getting this page up to FA quality. However when I try to look up this "complicated contract dispute", all I can find on Google is three pages of links that all contain the exact same phrase as is included in the article, with no further detail as to what the dispute was. Whilst the specifics aren't necessary, the nature of the dispute is very significant; was it a disagreement over breach of contract by either club or player, disagreement over pay or something to do with a release clause? Regardless of whether the actual article is edited to include any of this, I think it's important that there's a source to provide context. BeL1EveR 18:48, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Best alltime topscorer in Uefa Cup[edit]

With two goals in Helsingborgs IF - Trans Narva, he reached 30 goals in 42 matches of UEFA Cup. Before this game he was 2nd, one goal behind Dieter Muller (http://www.uefa.com/competitions/uefacup/finals/newsid=513239.html). Now he is the player with most UEFA cup goals.

Fair use rationale for Image:Larsson front-1-.jpg[edit]

Image:Larsson front-1-.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Floorball[edit]

From November 2008 - Feburay or March 2009 Larsson has signed on to play floorball for a top Swedish floorball club. I know this sounds like a hoax or a bad joke, but it is true. Here is an article in English. http://www.thelocal.se/15894/20081124/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by User:VsanoJ (talkcontribs)

I know this sounds VERY silly, but should his floorball club be listed under senior clubs? Heck, apparently he scored this weekend. Something certainly deserves to be mentioned about it, afaik he's played on top level in floorball before as well. (Which is fairly impressive as floorball is one of the biggest sports in Sweden, in number of players.) Lejman (talk) 01:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In reviewing the article, I have found there are a large number of issues that need to be addressed.--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
The prose is not great, perhaps 5/10. Many paragraphs are short and stubby.--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Sourcing is fine, but see issues with completeness below.--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Article has a very poor personal life section (see Brian Urlacher for a good example). In addition, it has poor weighting. The most influential years of his career were spect at Celtic, but this is given less space than Barcelona and only slightly more space than his brief spell at Manchester United. It is also a year out of date. His time at various clubs needs to be expanded to provide the correct weighting for that period of his career.--Jackyd101 (talk) 23:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See above.
  • It is stable.
  • It contains images, where possible, to illustrate the topic.

Surname[edit]

Why does he have a Swedish surname? His father comes from the Cape Verde Islands and Larsson is a Swedish surname. Did he adopt his mother's surname? Spiderone (talk) 15:37, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Though taking the father's surname is more common in Sweden, taking the mother's surname is still quite common as well. I don't know that he did, but it is indeed the logical assumption, and nothing that raises eyebrows in Sweden.Lejman (talk) 01:15, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Judging by your edit history, you are obviously not acting in good faith. Referring to users as "huns" ([1]) and asking other users if they have had sex ([2]) is completely inappropriate behaviour, so I don't see why we should treat your contributions with any respect whatsoever. The fact is that Larsson's SPL goalscoring record has been surpassed, and it seems appropriate to mention that in this article; you obviously just don't seem to like the fact that Larsson's record was beaten by a Rangers player. – PeeJay 07:22, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Moved to Helsingborg ?[edit]

To my knowledge is he born in Helsingborg, we do indeed differ between for instance Leicester and Leicester City. The football club he moved to was Helsingborg IF, and must differ from the name of the city. There are by the way also Helsingborg Södra BIS in Helsingborg. How magazines of any kind come in to this picture is a bit hard to comprehend. But OK "HIF" is mainly local, even though it's understood even in Stockholm and elsewhere. Boeing720 (talk) 03:18, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There may be other clubs in Helsingborg, but anyone with a minimal level of football knowledge would understand that the club Helsingborg is different from the city Helsingborg. Furthermore, we have Liverpool and Liverpool, and there are rarely any problems there. – PeeJay 09:58, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why complicate matters ? "Henrik Larsson moved to Helsingborg" (the city in which he was born) requires something more. That would also be the case regarding Liverpool FC and Liverpool as city. Boeing720 (talk) 01:42, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You have to read the sentence in context. In this case, there is no ambiguity. If it were ambiguous, I would suggest saying "Helsingborgs IF" at the first instance and then just "Helsingborg" thereafter, but I see no need for that. – PeeJay 07:23, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scope - Henrik Larsson.[edit]

And Högaborg BK is (within this scope) much more than a minor club. Henrik Larsson has ever since he left Högaborg, expressed his gratitude for their efforts with youths. Not once or twice but at lots of occasions. And since it is of importance for him, is it also so for us, to write something about it. He has donated money to Högaborg in varous ways and occasions. His thankfulness for Högaborg's efforts goes also far beyond his football career, at a deeper level. Provided three reliable sources sources for this. And what that has mattered to him (in public), is also our obligation to mention. The hair cut, to a Swedish TV-journalist he once said, (approximately) "I had for some time wondered if I should cut my hair. Suddenly - in a moment-decition , I decided to have that hair cut. It went fast, I drove home, and almost instantly did the door bell rang. Some photographer wanted a shot of my new haircut. I just simply couldn't understand how he possibly could know it, since I myself din't just 20 minutes earlier" And he permitted no shots to be taken when he was at home. This was something he strongly disapproved of in Scotland, to not have his private life respected. The tongue score gesture. He has also expressed , that after receiving a letter from some mother, who explained that her son had begun doing so - and a lot of it, and kindly asked him to stop with this kind of celebration. And he took that letter to heart, and never again celebrated a scored goal in that way. But I can't find sources for them. But also a football player's personality can be of encyclopedic value, sometimes. And in this case, I believe. Boeing720 (talk) 04:10, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
