seasons

Were the seasons given names by Saban officially, or are these being based purely on fansub/language used by fans? I can't recall any of the shows being referred to anything beyond "Season 2" and "Season 3" in promotions. (I did not have access to cable TV for season 4). Dunro 05:48, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Although, the dialog in Season 3 at least made reference to being a Tamer. Dunro 05:48, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

On Fox, there are a number of somewhat splits on what is being referred to as Season 1, where the time on File Island was in reruns for awhile before the Etemon episodes, and another round of repeats before Myotismon. Besides a season is usually 13 episodes and the FOX DVD season 1 had the first 13 episodes. Hackwrench 08:23, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Merging Digimon (ie Arbormon)

While I do agree with the vfd consensus, I don't really know if merging all the digimon with the Anime entry, or even the Digimon entry, is productive.

  1. Not all the information on individual digimon pages relates directly to the series (ie. is canon)... many of them (though I have only looked at Arbormon, and Digimon webpages in general... include information based on the Digimon Card Game... which is not necessarily canon (perhaps in Tamers... perhaps)
  2. That would make for one awfully long entry.

Other thoughts, anyone? Dunro 02:35, 2005 Mar 26 (UTC)

If anything's going to be merged, it should be Digital Monsters and Digital World. Very similar pages. -Link, Hero of Wind 18:04, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

What is the reason for the former page being moved to the latter?

Digimon refers to each individual Digimon (Agumon, Patamon etc.) and redirecting Digimon to Digimon: Digital Monsters (anime) will cause lots of problems because just about every single individual Digimon page links to Digimon.

It's been done before and I do not know why. Where is the idea to move it coming from?

These should really be separate pages.

The Ages of the Tamers

According to the offical site info passed from fox to disney's jetix, in the american version they were all around 13. (At least Henry, Rika and Takato. Obvously some were older and some were younger.) Not sure if anyone want's to change that, It's nothing too major, I just thought I would point it out.--72.228.6.188

They were 10 in the Japanese version, 13 in the English (you can verify this on Konaka's site also) Shiroi Hane 09:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
It's a tadbit more complicated than that: in “The Journey Begins,” Yamaki’s computer lists Takato as being 12. ([1] The Digimon Encyclopedia)

What are the titles and stories of movies containing 02 characters?

What are the titles and stories of movies containing 02 characters (besids The Movie and The Revenge of Diaboromon)? And what are these titles? (Michi E No Armor Shinka, Doors To Summers) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 166.87.255.133 (talk • contribs) .

I know that "Michi e no Armour Shinka" is an audio drama, I assume the other one you name is also since there are only 2 movies per series (except Frontier, which has one). Shiroi Hane 23:41, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

When enter pages of characters (e.g. Matt), there is a subcategory called Digimon 02: Michi e no Armour Shinka. And below it is what happens with Matt in this 'thing'. My question is what is Michi e no Armour Shinka? Is it like an episode, or a movie or what? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 166.87.255.133 (talk • contribs) .

Err.. did not not even read my reply? I just told you its an audio drama. Shiroi Hane 00:03, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

"Digimon Savers"

Can we have a source for this information please? Shiroi Hane 08:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

OK, to answer my own question, it was apparently in V-Jump. Shiroi Hane 08:43, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

de-merging of articles

I can't remember if Tamers and Adventure and all the different series of Digimon originally had their own articles, but I think that should be the rout taken now. As it stands now there are 3 different series (and a 4th soon-to-be-aired) that really are not "seasons" to each other (with the exception of Adventure and 02). It makes as much sense to merge all this together as it would be to merge every gundam article together. Also, I agree that there is a difference between Digimon the card game, the digital pet, and the anime, and that should also encourage some more article separation. also, stubs like the one for characters could then be merged into their series article. It doesn't make much sense to have a whole article on Takato but then Tamers has to share an article with everything else Digimon. It will look cleaner, be more informative, and so on.. any thoughts? Ned Scott 04:18, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm certaintly not opposed. The problem might be titling them.. in Japan each series had it's own title (Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier), however in the US they are just called "Digimon" (or "Digimon: Digital Monsters" if you must), "Digimon Season Two", "Digimon Season Three" etc.. strictly we should be using the official English title but the tendency here is to use the original names. While redirects can be used from one to another, this might be an emotive issue for some. I also feel a lot of the information on the anime given on the main Digimon article is unecessarily duplicating what is on this page or, if it's not, should be on this page not that one anyway. Shiroi Hane 22:09, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
I agree, any re-organizing of the articles would be tricky. If it is to happen then an over-all structure should be planned first, to make sure any changes would make sense. The idea being that we could add more information about each show without it making the current article even larger, as well as being able to merge some of the character stubs.
I need to familiarize myself a bit more with wikipedia layout guidelines before I can make any real suggestions, but for starters my idea for the main Digimon article would be something like: basic concept, brief digi-pet history, brief descriptions of each series/ season of anime, comics, brief description of digimon cards, etc, with most sections linking to a larger article of it's own (making possible such stuff as adding episode listings and so on). Thus making Digimon: Digital Monsters (anime) un-needed. These are just ideas floating in my head right now, but I do think something like this would be better. Ned Scott 23:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
For all practical purposes, the seasons are typically differenciated in English byusing the Japanese names,soI doubt that'd prove to be a problem. Circeus 15:44, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Digimon Savers already has its own page, although there's less information there than there is on this page at the moment. Either most, if not all, of the Savers information on this page should be moved there, or that page should be put up for AfD. If the former, then the same should really apply to all the other series also.. Shiroi Hane 02:53, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Names

Just for reference, and since I have the DVD in the machine anyway, here's screenshots of the names given to the original seven Adventure characters in the dub:

Shiroi Hane 21:50, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

I think a subject that might be good to add to the article is the odd way the names were changed in the dub. At first, they left their real names as their 'real names' and assigned easier-to-say nicknames, but by 02 they were doing odd things like mispronouncing names or turning a Japanese name into a MORE (or equally) Japanese-sounding name, like Miyako -> Yolei(pronounced yolee for some reason) and Ruki Makino -> Rika Nonaka. Also, I think they've mis-read the kanji of someone's last name more than once, resulting in a still-foreign but incorrect name, which is weird for dubbers. They can read kanji?

Season 2 summary leaves out a pretty important detail.

"the original Digi-destined grew up into junior high school students (except for Kari and T.K.) and could no longer watch over the Digital World and be with their Digimon friends.", It makes it seem like the fact they were in Jr. High was the reason they weren't as active in the 2nd season, which is completely misleading. It's forgetting the major plotline event (Not actually seen on TV, though still part of the plotline) where they had to give up the power to crest digivolve to free the Sovrigns. Also, What did it mean could no longer watch over the digital world? Tai rushed right over in the 1st episode of the 2nd season. I'm just saying, the wording and facts should definitaly be a little straighter there. (I'd do it myself, But I'm still relitively new to the offical Wikipedia site, and want to take it a little slow before I do any major edits on here. Actually I have an accout, Sgore, Which I'll be using from now on.)--72.230.6.138

de-merging

All series / seasons now have their own articles! Other manga, video game, etc digimon articles to follow as well. see older message below for more info. --Ned Scott 09:19, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Taken from Talk:Digimon Tamers:
You can probably see that information from many different Digimon articles was pulled for this new article. So far this seems far more organized than having the bits of information in separate articles. What I've done so far is more or less a demonstration on the improvement we'll see if we apply this to all the Digimon series/ seasons. It's got a long way to go, but I think that the Digimon articles can become "feature article" worthy in a matter of months. Like I said, what you see so far is just a first step; eventually all the Digimon articles should conform to the standards found in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Digimon_Systems_Update and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Anime_and_manga. Till then, lets see what works and what direction we want to go in. --Ned Scott 05:49, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
a lot of my recent edits have been made to consolidate information to one spot, so you don't have to edit multiple articles for one piece of information. for example, before if you wanted to make a comment on the character "Tai" there were at least 3 or 4 different articles that should be updated that contain write-ups about him. What we want to do is reduce this and direct edits towards a single article page, whatever the most appropriate article and section is for that information. This will make finding (as well as editing) information easier. -- Ned Scott 10:02, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Someone needs to sort out which cast entries belong on which page(s) - its not always clear and I'm to tired to even consider it right now. If the cast on the page for that particular season then it will save confusion in cases where different actors voices characters with the same name but in different seasons. Shiroi Hane 03:50, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Remove "Main cast"

For some reason, that sectionis still tagged for cleanup, but most content has now been moved to the individual season articles. Maybe we should only keep something like the "notable people" section of Digimon. Circeus 18:40, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to move all the casts lists to the individual series pages, but it takes a lot of work since with the digimon you have to cross-check which series they appeared in and I haven't had the time to finish it off lately. Shiroi Hane 04:59, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Discussion

  • I've wondered about this myself a few times. Lets take a look at why we have the name and the article. For one, even though there are now separate articles for each series / season, this still serves as the main starting point for the anime part of the Digimon franchise. It's also the official title of the English dub, which only separated the series by "seasons". On one hand, making Digimon (anime) would be better, but then you'd lose the title of the dub. On the other hand, Digimon: Digital Monsters could easily be confused as the entire Digimon franchise and not be anime specific. (Toys and card games that were in English distribution were also marked as Digimon: Digital Monsters.) Personally, I really don't have a strong opinion on the matter. Redirects in place and a well written intro can take care of a great deal of possible confusion. Maybe tomorrow after I've had some sleep I'll be of more use to this discussion. -- Ned Scott 07:48, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
  • "having to change a lot of links" is a poor rational for not moving the page. There are tons of messy things to do - categories must be totally removed and changed after a WP:CFD debate, and images have to be re-uploaded and their image links to be changed. If this goes through - a bot or someone with AWB could simply change all the links. Hbdragon88 08:28, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
    • The link change isn't really the reason, but rather, I'd like to be sure on which name to change it to. NedBot could easily handle the task, but we are talking about hundreds of edits and that puts a load on Wikipedia, etc. Therefore, we should be sure of major changes first before taking premature action. -- Ned Scott 08:42, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
      • Well actually, the only thing that is absolutely required to fix is the double redirects. Redirects are pretty cheap and don't use up a lot of server resources. Hbdragon88 09:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
        • True, and now that I think about it, eh, seems fine to me. I've retracted my oppose. -- Ned Scott 09:15, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Result: moved

The result of the discussion was to move the article, as has been done by now. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 12:52, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

moved from article: Jetix to drop digimon for Toonami

During late 2006, Jetix will drop Digimon TV series to Cartoon Network's Toonami and Miguzi in early 2007. Disney already signed Digimon TV series in July 2001. The Digimon TV Series and Movies will air on Toonami and Miguzi in early 2007.

re:Pokemon

References to the whole "Digimon rip off to Pokemon" is repeatedly removed from the article. But it remains that the thought is very common, and the debate has to get a mention. Finding reliable soures is not even that difficult:

cast section

It's kind of sloppy to have a lumped cast list, and most of the sub pages (anime and individual 'mon articles) have this info too. But just incase, I'll post it here on the talk page for easy reference. -- Ned Scott 03:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

hi..

can anyone tell me hikari chinese name...???

Finnish Dubs

We should add a bit about the two Finnish dubs. Would anyone happen to know more about them? According to a website I found:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/wheany/agapio/english.php

It states that two dubs were made, a bad one and I assume a more faithful one. But I would like to know what company made the second one, what station it aired on, what seasons were dubbed under it (and if the entire first season was redubbed or not), and the dates (or at least the years) that they aired. Can someone fill me in? Indiawilliams 16:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
