chindo? the wikipedia link is for a breed of dog; is that what's referred to? if so, it needs a lot of clarification.

also, it'd be helpful in the filmography to list writing, direction, and production credits for his movies, rather than just acting roles. bikeable (talk) 07:14, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture?[edit]

Political Donation[edit]

Is this info really necessary? I personally don't care for it, but it is documented and factual, so perhaps it should be allowed to stay. --DCrazy talk/contrib 00:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms[edit]

"Owen has been accused of often playing the same character in all his films. Indeed, it would appear that aside from Behind Enemy Lines, Owen has made a conscious effort to turn his back on the quirky indie type films which made him his name in favour of manufactured typical Hollywood Romantic Comedy films.[/i]"

Huh? He's made a conscious effort, has he? Could you back this up with a statement? And it should be noted that Behind Enemy Lines preceded his roles in both Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic, so your argument could be better argued.

Nose[edit]

The Yahoo Movies biography says his distictive nose shape was the result of it being twice broken. This article claims it is a birth defect. I'm going to change it. All search results indicate broken. Prometheus-X303- 13:23, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article doesn't mention the nose at all now! Why not! It's like his trademark! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.206.212.221 (talk) 23:45, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I actually came to this article looking for info on his nose, and there isn't any. Apparently according to the comment above, it was in the article at one point? Why was it removed? Since apparently this section is too far up to get attention (and is being ignored), I will create another section below to address this.Levontaun (talk) 09:04, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We may never know what happened to his nose. Some people say he broke it while playing football. LooneyTunes100 (talk) 02:13, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Roles[edit]

Are Cars and the Shanghai Noon franchise really representative of his career? I'd think the following films are more suitable selections:

  • Bottle Rocket (his breakthrough debut)
  • Zoolander (His first large role opposite frequent co-star Ben Stiller)
  • Wedding Crashers (Biggest hit to be carried on his star power)

This article mentions that Behind Enemy Lines is his only dramatic role. But he was in the Minus Man.

Schools[edit]

The present article mentions "his high school" — which one? He attended St. Mark's School of Texas in his freshman year, then was expelled and attended Thomas Jefferson High School, and eventually graduated from a military school in New Mexico. We should clarify. Incidentally, this bouncing around from school to school is mentioned in most bios of him (including the Wilson Brothers site), so it's probably notable enough to include in the article. I just can't decide which is the most appropriate spot. Lawikitejana 06:57, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Owen Wilson did not graduate from NMMI. I go there. He got kicked out. He's just an honorary alum. GET IT RIGHT

Character quotes[edit]

The Character quotes are a complete mess.

Yeah I aggree ... I also think this whole section shouldn't be here. Are any of these quotes really notable? Nope. This looks more like a fans list of favs. I say delete. QuirkyAndSuch 03:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"BREAKING NEWS"[edit]

This is not a news website nor a gossip website. Putting "BREAKING NEWS THIS IS A RUMOR AT THIS POINT" is completely non-encyclopedic edit to this article. If you want to talk about the suicide rumors, provide links and add the information in an encyclopedic tone.

Seems like this addition to the page could have waited until more information was available. Right now, details are still sketchy and it just looks like gossip-mongering. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.160.208.26 (talk) 03:57, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Well said my anonymous friend. --ElKevbo 04:11, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created an account just to say this without being anonymous, as I was in the previous unsigned comment about waiting until more information was available about the suicide attempt before posting it in the wiki. I understand that people might conceivably expect Owen's page to have information about this event in his life, and I can further understand that others might feel it's a disservice to have only a small, undetailed acknowledgment that it happened when there are literally hundreds of articles on the internet with juicier accounts. However, I don't think something that is meant to be an encyclopedia entry should have been constantly edited with such details as who found him, what time 911 was called, the circumstances and method of his suicide attempt, or the impact the incident is having on his current movie projects.

Obviously, Owen is a public figure and his Wikipedia page should certainly provide a comprehensive overview of his public life. The fact that news outlets have largely followed the lead of the gossip rags that initially broke the story should not, however, dictate how the suicide attempt is dealt with on this page. The rush to publish the latest alleged lurid details - with or without citations - cheapens the exercise of providing this free informational resource, and it certainly displays a total disregard for the subject's privacy, his plea for which is, ironically, quoted and cited on this page.

Just because the information is out there doesn't mean it belongs in an encyclopedia entry. Just because you can provide a citation doesn't mean you should add it. This incident is still ongoing, it is part of the man's private life, and there is almost nothing of why it happened and what it really means available to the public at large. Therefore, IMO, the only thing that should be noted on this page is the fact that it happened and the date. Without more time, some distance, and a great deal more verifable information, there is no way this page can provide a meaningful context for this incident within Owen's life. The manner in which the incident has thus far been chronicled on this page is little different from the methods of the National Enquirer and Star magazine. And really, Wikipedia should be better than that. LeeBeeNow 17:36, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't agree more with this last statement. It does an excellent job putting into words exactly what I felt once seeing the huge section devoted to Owen's suicide attempt. If an actor suffered from acne as a child and had to deal with it, there wouldn't be a large section describing his skin conditions and going into details about dermatologist appointments and such... even if there was documentation to back it up. Some things can be noted but not focused on in length. It's ridiculous that his attempted suicide section is almost as long as the section focusing on his initial success. The man is an actor, but first and foremost he is a human being who wants his privacy just like the rest of us.

OMG, TYPO[edit]

He was discovered with his writs slit and an near-empty bottle of medical pills in the bathroom[8] of his home by his older brother Andrew[9], who called 911 at 11:59 a.m.[10][11][12][13] his writs slit WRITS

Not that I should be pandering to this anonymous comment, but what they heck was that? --UntilMoraleImproves 18:11, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe he/she meant to point out an orthographic error, viz., that the article referred to writs, not wrists. Joe 21:01, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How much information does anyone really need about Owen Wilson's nose?[edit]

Seriously. There's a long section in the Personal Life section about how misshapen it is and how many times it's supposedly been broken. That's already pushing the boundaries quite a bit, but then recounting an episode of Celebrity Death Match in which he features? For God's sake, this is supposed to be an encyclopedia! The most I can possibly see being appropriate would be to mention somewhere that his nose has a distinctive shape, but really even that is pretty pointless information. Really, is the article improved at all with this stuff? I'd say not by a long shot. 64.75.163.14 05:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Come on I want to know what's wrong with this guy's schnoz. I mean, is it a birth defect? Or has it been broken like stated above? I don't think it's pushing the "personal" border, but I want to know what's up with his schnoz. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.144.177.39 (talk) 21:37, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd also like to know about his nose. I'm sure many people have searched for why his nose looks the way it does, and therefore, it should be stated here. --Montazmeahii (talk) 22:59, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed by police?[edit]

There's no adequate citation for this. This ought to be trivial to find, and I've no idea how to rewrite the section to exclude this claim, so I'm not going to strike it right now. Can someone fix this? --Steven Fisher 06:22, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still broken. It now claims the LAPD confirmed this. According to the source, this is a Santa Monica Police Department report leaked to Extra. The LAPD isn't involved at all, and the SMPD certainly hasn't claimed ownership of the report. --Steven Fisher 06:21, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed assertion[edit]

I have removed the following (boldened) text from the article, because it did not have a citation supplied, I could not find anything to support it on Factiva, and WP:BLP requires us to remove unsourced contentious material:

Rushmore was the two writers' second script collaboration, and was partially based on Wilson's own expulsion from St. Mark's as a teenager.

If someone can find a source for this, please re-add it to the article with referencing. - Mark 09:07, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tropic Thunder[edit]

Stiller[edit]

The detail about Wilson's defense of Ben Stiller in the New Yorker is interesting and arguably relevant; however, it seems out of place in its current location directly under the relationships heading. I suggest this information be placed under a 'friendships' subheading and rewritten slightly to put it in context as evidence of his off-set relationship with Stiller. As it is now, it's just sort of a random factoid without much context. I would edit this myself, but the options seems to be turned off at the moment in light of current events. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.205.148.43 (talk) 17:03, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suicide attempt section[edit]

My changes to the suicide attempt section have been reverted but I am not sure why. There is some very contentious information in there that is not supported by the sources. Particularly the line

'In 2007, Wilson was taken to St. John's Health after attempting to overdose on drugs and having a slashed wrist.'

The only mention of this in the sources states that this is what was reported by a couple of tabloids, there is nothing to justify stating this as a fact in a Wikipedia article. Please could the user who reverted my changes either correct the section so that it matches the sources or find further sources that back up what is written. As the article stands I believe that it violates Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people. I will check back in a few days and see what has been done, I am happy to try and find a compromise between the current version and my version if you think my changes went to far.

Also, please note that it is generally considered bad practice to revert changes without an explanation except in the case of vandalism. As my changes were clearly not vandalism it would have been polite to give your reasons for the reversion either here, in the edit summary or on my talk page. I'm not accusing you of bad faith just letting you know for future reference. Mah favourite (talk) 00:23, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Googling owen wilson suicide -wikipedia wrist doesn't result much. The Fox article lists gossip blog perezhilton.com as a source. ABC references Star magazine, msnbc.com doesn't list a source and Daily Mail shows a paparazzi photo which really doesn't clearly show a scar—it could easily be a fold in his skin. I agree that, without a proper source, the line about slitting his wrists shouldn't be in there. Sottolacqua (talk) 01:29, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Wildhartlivie has added a source to the end of the sentence that I quoted above. Unfortunately I still feel that the same problem exists - to clarify, the source says that 'U.S. tabloids Star magazine and National Enquirer cited unnamed sources as saying Wilson tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist and taking drugs.' This means that the article cannot state this as fact, it should either say that this is what was reported in tabloid sources or not mention it at all. Even if you can source the original tabloid articles I still do not believe that they are reliable sources. In order for the text to stay as it is a reliable thrid party source needs to be quoted saying 'In 2007, Wilson was taken to St. John's Health after attempting to overdose on drugs and having a slashed wrist.' I will have another look myself but I am really not sure if such a source exists, as far as I can see this has only been reported in tabloid sources. If anyone believes that the current text should be retained then please explain your reasons here on the talk page. Otherwise I will have another go at editing the 'suicide attempt' section in a few days to bring it in line with the sources. Mah favourite (talk) 01:31, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have had another go at changing this section. I've left the content pretty much the same but made it more obvious that some of the information is what was reported in tabloid sources at the time. If anyone is unhappy with the changes please let me know here or on my talk page. Mah favourite (talk) 01:15, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life[edit]

Wilson is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident on February 14 2012.

it was reported dead December 29, 2010

-http://www.gossipcop.com/owen-wilson-dead-death-hoax-died-dies-snowboarding/ -http://www.showbizspy.com/article/222889/owen-wilson-dead-actor-owen-wilson-forced-to-deny-internet-death-rumors.html -http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/2010/12/owen-wilson-death-adam-sandler-not-dead-death-hoax-chris-brown-twitter.html

The actor and novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Owen Wilson lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Owen Wilson was lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.

--this rumor has been debunked ages ago so please make sure that it is noted because the article makes it sound like he did die

Please make a note after this that the news about Owen Wilson's death was a hoax. It can look misleading and actually prompted me to search if this was true because there is no note as to say that this death thing was a piece of bad gossip.

For the record, the hoax was back in 2010 and not February 14 2012 (which is today!).

Nose - for the third time[edit]

Ok guys, looking at the entries above, it looks like information about Owen's nose was part of the article at one point and then removed. Given that many people (including myself) came to this article looking specifically for information on this, I'm going to have a crack at re-adding some content back to the article about it. It's clearly relevant as there are several articles on various sites about it. I'll leave this here for a day or two to see what you guys think, but if no one has an issue with this being re-added, I'm going to make the change.Levontaun (talk) 09:13, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

N/A film roles in "Film" section[edit]

This is just because Wilson's only a producer and/or writer, correct? If that is the case, it should be made into a separate section. The "Film" section is typically used for acting credits only. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 01:55, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notable work[edit]

After looking at other pages, maybe the problem lies with the infobox parameter "Notable work" not many (I found none) articles use this parameter. Mlpearc (open channel) 22:30, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It either needs to be removed entirely or sources need to be added. This is both not neutral and it's original research. Plus, it's a subjective, easily argued term. Also, yes, not many use it. Maybe if there was a better term than "notable work". -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 22:30, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If the listed works have their own page, doesn't that assume notability ? Mlpearc (open channel) 22:38, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. But, there is an issue with that - there's like, 50 acting credits from Owen that have their own page. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 23:00, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That brings us back to you edit, remove the infobox parameter. Mlpearc (open channel) 23:24, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Owen Wilson[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Owen Wilson's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
