History section needs more[edit]

Anyone want to write a graf or two on Redlands' 20th-century history? I'm really not very up on it--did it go into a period of decline after the 1950s, the way San Bernardino did, or has it always been fairly affluent? I know it's a pretty damn nice town these days (well, as nice as anywhere in the smog-ridden eastern IE could be).--Slightlyslack 21:10, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Redspork - yeah, Tom Atchley is very helpful. He's actually doing a class at Smiley Library on the history that I'll be sitting in on over the next couple of months which will hopefully get me a bunch more information. Also, I was able to pick up a bunch of the Moores' books when I was out there on Tuesday that will good references for this project. I'm thinking of dividing it up as: "Early History", "Early Settlers" "1800s" and "1900s" "Today" for starters and then just going from there if we need more subsections. I've got Moore's "Redlands Astride the Freeway" and Swett's "Tractions of the Inland Empire". I desperately wanted a copy of Moore's Norton AFB history but it was already out of print when I learned of it. Redlands never went into any type of economic decline in the 20th Century, and didn't suffer anywhere near as much as San Bernardino after the closing of Norton AFB. I have pictures of the Diamond Anniversary and was of course there for the Centennial. But I'm hardly the Redlands historian. They could not care less about even keeping one of my books in the library. Myself and my mother are two "famous" Redlands residents. And I have Mr. Moore's pica point pole from the Facts, which he gave to me when he retired. Keep up the good work. ASterling (talk) 19:28, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've just heard of a fire nearby, as well as a community, district, named "Mountain Home".

Where is "Mountain Home", please?

Mountain Home Village, Ca I believe is a small community of about 5 to 10 homes on Highway 38 going up towards Big Bear Lake, California. Also known locally as Mill Creek. Heres a map I found.

Demographics[edit]

I can't find a source anywhere for the recent updates to the Demographics section [3], namely, for the part about income. The most current offical Census data for Redlands available at census.gov is dated 2003, the income data is dated 1999 [4]. The update indicating that the median income quadrupled since 1999 looks like a WP:REDFLAG to me. Is anybody else worried about this? --BeautifulFlying (talk) 01:27, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ESRI has grown a lot in the last 10 years and has brought a LOT of high-tech jobs and incomes to the area, so I'm not to worried, however if we can find the right income data, that'd be good...Mrjmcneil (talk) 01:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redlands' Mexican-American community was a theme of a book "Images of America: Mexican Americans in Redlands". Churches under points of interest[edit]

I recently added information regarding the Redlands California Temple under Museums and other points of interest (I added "other points of interest" per WP:USCITY). However, it was reverted. While it is not a museum, it is a significant point of interest and one of only four temples in Southern California. It also is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article about it. I think it is appropriate to discuss on the talk page the merits of readding this information, if not in this section of the article then another. Feel free to add a "Churches" or "Points of interest" or "Notable architecture" or some other separate section where the temple entry can live. You also might want to head over and flesh out the entry for the Redlands temple on this page. I've added about two dozen of the churches so far, but it will take a while to get them all up and alphabatized. Redlands has one of the highest Per-capata number of churches in the United States (I'm checking on a reference for that so I can put it in the article). There were so many that I've moved them to their own section and I'm trying to arrange them as well as I can by denominational affiliation. I'm a little unsure about the 'reformed church' whether I should split them up or keep them all together, so if anyone knows, feel free to change it. Also, I only went by the denominations that were listed on websites, if there are any I've placed in 'non-affiliated' that are, please fix this as well. Holy cow! (pun intended)... When did the church section take over? It's now out of proportion to the rest of the article. I don't feel the denomination headers are good for the format; each of the churches can simply have their denomination listed inline. That would snug up the list and reduce visual clutter. Linking to non-existent Wikipedia pages[edit]

I think that some of the language in this section should be reconsidered. I have some issues with the factual accuracy of many statements, mostly because of the language. - Nikhil

List of churches[edit]

Other than The Packinghouse Christian Fellowship and the Redlands California Temple, none of the churches listed have a Wikipedia article. This list should include the notable churches, and not a mere collection of external links or Internet directories. I would like to get consensus before removing so many of these links, however, and give editors a chance to develop articles for the notable churches. With due respect to everybody's contribution in the article, I find Alanraywiki's edits an improvement. The list of churches as it was before the edits (and as it is now after the revert) is exceedingly long, and without carrying much of encyclopedic information such lists are against the policies outlined in Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, namely, Wikipedia is not a directory and Wikipedia is not a repository of links. The First Congregational Church would likely be a great addition. While having its own Wikipedia article is not a requirement for notability, there should be some third-party documentation of its notability in a reliable source such as a newspaper or book. As noted above, the justification for removing edits with just their own web sites was the Wikipedia policy on no collections of external links. WP not a directory[edit]

This article, while having some great information, has become largely just lists. I had tried to remove information earlier but was reverted. Much of the information here is not notable for an international encyclopedia (e.g., local bands, shopping centers, etc.) and should be removed. adding Semi-Pro sports team - Redlands FC[edit]

I would like to suggest or recommend that our local semi-professional soccer team (Redlands Football Club) get added to the city's wiki, perhaps as a new Content drop down titled Sports Teams, or under Arts and Culture under local events? I would really appreciate this addition being taken into consideration, please.
