People?[edit]

Are the categories by year of birth and death to include only humans or can animals like Buddy Clinton and Dolly the sheep be included as well? Q0 21:14, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's meant for people only. -- User:Docu
How about fictional characters, like Bartholomew Bandy? -- Petri Krohn 23:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of people needing categorization by birth or death[edit]

I've compiled three lists of people needing categorization by birth or death (as of mid-March 2008):

Any help gratefully received in adding the appropriate categories to these! Dsp13 (talk) 21:07, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting births by year?[edit]

A good number of the XXXX births categories have thousands of members. For example, there are 3,978 pages in Category: 1948 births.

What we could do is split those categories by month, for example:

Same thing would apply to deaths by year. FMAFan1990 (talk) 08:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why?[edit]

Why do we have these categories? The number of people born each (recent) year is huge and they have little in common. --Apoc2400 (talk) 16:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

A comment a friend of mine watching me search through a couple years for a person (not the most efficient way, I know) was "they should sort these by nationality." My thoughts are that it just would be waaay too much tedious, dull work, because a seriously big number of people have been born (cite world population) but he wanted me to suggest this anyway. 173.32.219.250 (talk) 08:27, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1900 births is subcategory of 19th-century births and 20th-century births[edit]

Category:1900 births is a sub-category of both Category:19th-century births and Category:20th-century births. What's the best way to resolve this? GoingBatty (talk) 01:57, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should also have this. Such as Category:January births or Category:January 1st births. So we can organize people who share the same birth dates. Ranze (talk) 22:54, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Month[edit]

It has already been suggested above, but I think categorising by month e.g October 1924 births or May 2007 births would be better. A decade ago users were saying the categories were over populated and they have become even more overpopulated. I might be biased as I like to categorise pages. Prehistoric births[edit]

Sometimes ancient remains are found. They might be ancestors of American Indians. The Indians repatriate the remains, give them names, rebury them with ceremony. They are old remains, but are treated with the same dignity and respect as any individual who died recently. These are individual people, who happened to have died a long time ago in prehistory. Often their remains are of interest to certain types of scientists, such as anthropoligists and archaeologists, but this does not negate the fact they were once a person, and are more than a pile of bones. The bones are of interest only in so far as they tell us something about their life as a person. So my question is how do we signify the births of these individuals when all we know is the approximate date, for example 11,000 BC. -- GreenC 16:00, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
