I am sure this will be edited greatly. What is needed is someone to flesh out the golden mean in archetecture and art in this piece.

There is no understanding of Greek thought and action and culture without this idea. WHEELER 18:58, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Also I linked to aestheticism and that is not what the basic idea of aestheiticism is. It goes deeper. The Greeks had aestheticism, which is "Devotion to the Beautiful". The site of aestheticism needs work or a disambiguation page.WHEELER 19:20, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

There is also a "golden mean" in Greek literature. Much can be added to this site.WHEELER 14:47, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)

What is the diffrence between this article and the Golden Ratio?? --Starx 03:35, 17 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

This is the Philosophical understanding of the Greek mean. I reversed the edits of the guy because the first part is the research I done by reading the Dictionary of the Arts, a 32 volume reference collection. It is obviously being edited by people who don't have a clue.WHEELER 19:43, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Capitalization of article title[edit]

Should this article be called golden mean (meaning, all downcase)? Oleg Alexandrov 00:12, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

When these articles are merged, it should maintain the name of Golden Ratio, as that is more precise. --TheFox 01:04, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Golden ratio ≠ middle way[edit]

Part of the article describes the golden ratio, and part (particularly the sections "Pythagoras", "Golden mean in philosophy", "Quotations" and probably "Miscellanea") deals with the philosophical concept already discussed in Nicomachean Ethics#The Golden Mean, which is more related to nullum nimis or middle way. The golden ratio page disambiguates the two meanings, and we should only merge text of the first kind into that article. — Sebastian (talk) 15:22, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

I'm opposed to merging these two articles. The Golden Ratio is an article which satisfies those who seek a mathematical understanding and appreciation of the concept while The Golden Mean satisfies those who seek an understanding and appreciation which is philosophical or aesthetical. I doubt very much that a satisfactory article can be created which maintains the clairity that each has striven to achieve GeneMosher 13:49, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IMO the golden mean and the golden ratio overlap in many areas and are similar enough to be regarded as the same phenomenon under different names. I believe it would be inaccurate to keep them seperate. Though it will be some work, I really think it would be best to have it all in one place.Danimal 09:43, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tag[edit]

I've changed the attention tag to a dated cleanup. This article is already listed for AfD but if it surives I suggest a 30 day period where this article has a chance to be updated into a coherent article rather than a mish-mash of lossely related topics. If that doesn't happen it should go up for AfD again (assuming it survives the current vote).--Isotope23 19:14, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I did a little work on the intro section, but I won't do any details until the discussion about deletion has finished. WhiteC 03:25, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There is extensive discussion, and debate, about what should be done with this article at Articles for deletion/Golden Mean. Finell 22:09, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
