A google search seems to indicate that this term only appears in the Jargon File and it's derivatives and imitators. I am unsure that it is in fact a stub as opposed to a candidate for the wikidictionary. Elde 22:13, 28 Jan 2004 (UTC)

"In fiction, the term comes from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first book in C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, which describes ancient laws and codes as "deep magic from the dawn of time.", I believe this statement need a source! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.64.233.38 (talk) 19:03, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That quote is from the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. I can get the exact chapter if you're interested. I'm not certain the term "deep magic" originated there, but it almost certainly is what popularized the term. --72.22.219.5 (talk) 21:50, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This may indeed be a wikidictionary entry, but it is incorrect for "Voodoo Programming" to redirect to "Deep Magic" whether they are wikipedia articles or dictionary entries. "Deep Magic" requires deep understanding and great skill, while "Voodoo Programming" is programming by ritual with little or no understanding. Again, from the Jargon File entry for Voodoo Programming[1]

I was just about to make the same point about Voodoo Programming - that page should definitely not redirect here. 84.92.183.124 (talk) 09:15, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with article[edit]

Appears to be essentially a glossary entry, presumably with heavy debt to "The Jargon File." No real discussion of the topic, just the phrase itself (which is a pretty good distinction between encyclopedia articles and dictionary entries.) No sources whatsoever. The one external link goes to archives of a forum titled "Deep Magic" but it's not clear whether the forum was actually ABOUT "Deep Magic" or just borrowed the phrase for the title. Random unverified original research about TLTWATW and programmers' thoughts of Arthur C. Clarke, among other topics. Just a mess in general. Propaniac (talk) 17:06, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
