Hi Angela,

I'm from Afrikaans and also try to start growth at other South African languages. It seems you took up the issue of the National Language Services with User:Node_ue at User_talk:Node_ue#Re:Wikipedia-l: Banned from editing except on en. Could you be so kind as to let me know on my Afrikaans talk page about the outcome of whether or not those are copyios under South African law? Unfortunately we don't have the manpower of the en.wp and Internet connectivity isn't always equally available. If we can reuse the manpower spent here, it would be a nice bonus for us. Thanks for you work on Wikipedia. --Alias 12:36 (UTC)

You and Yours[edit]

I just finished listening - well done!
James F. (talk) 13:01, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. :) Angela.
Was this the segment about Cyber Crime? (Real Player not working through our firewall, so downloading Real Alternative out of total frustration) --Phil | Talk 13:48, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
No. It was the part about encyclopedias :) Angela.
What's all this then? Have I missed something? Apwoolrich 14:23, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
It was a short piece about Wikipedia on the You and Yours programme on BBC Radio 4 today. You can listen to it at [1] but you might need some sort of plugins. Angela. 14:42, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
Well, swope me, that's a different version of the main page than I got an hour ago: there was no mention of encyclopedias then :-( Now to find out how to play a RPM file… On the other hand I might be able to get in through the generic BBC player: where in the program is your bit? --Phil | Talk 15:02, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
It starts about 30 minutes in. But the link doesn't seem to be working now. Maybe this one will work instead. Angela. 15:13, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
Oh yes. Doesn't the lady sound hoopy :-) Did you actually get to meet Bamber? --Phil | Talk 18:33, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
What is hoopy? I didn't get to meet anyone. I was in the Ipswich studio and the others were in London and Manchester. It was weird just being put in a studio by myself :) Angela. 19:12, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
See hoopy. Was it actually live, then? --Phil | Talk 07:46, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)
Yep, it was live. Angela. 17:54, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)

Mosques[edit]

There seems to be a problem with one of the history links for the Mosque article. I was trying to revert the article, but when i try to edit an outdated article, the text of the article is displayed as a warning message. Could you check it out? Mosque History Item Cyrloc 15:39, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Symposium Rotterdam - Agenda in English[edit]

Hi Angela, Anthere, Jimbo,

I just translated the agenda proposal for the Rotterdam Symposium to English on m:Wikimedia meetup Rotterdam.

I don't know whether the board members feel invited to prepare their talk in the wiki medium, but in the event, I proposed m:Wikimedia meetup Rotterdam/Board members talk.

--Francis Schonken 09:10, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. If we manage to be organised, we'll put something there. I can't promise we will though. Angela. 17:54, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)

Mediation Request[edit]

Hi Angela. Are you available for mediations at the moment? There is a request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation#Users CheeseDreams, SIrubenstein and Amgine - I've been doing the preliminaries and you are currently listed as first choice for mediator. I know you have a lot on your plate, but perhaps you could have a look and see? Thanks -- sannse (talk) 22:49, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

OK, thanks Angela - good luck with the job -- sannse (talk) 11:01, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

CC Licensing[edit]

I added the categories that you have licensed some of your changes under to your Disclaimers and licenses page. When you left the message on my talk page, I fixed the problem that you mentioned, however, I noticed another glaringly wrong part: I only included "U.S. State", when I meant to say is "U.S. State, county, or city articles". A lot good my argument to open up the U.S. county and city articles was if I failed to include that in "Option #2". Then I noticed that you put option #2 on your disclaimer page (thank you!), but of course it doesn't help my original goal because it doesn't include the wide majority of the geographic articles! I wanted to let you know. -- Ram-Man 17:48, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

I've changed that now to say state, county, or city articles, but I've moved the categories to talk. I think they could be misleading if people see my name in a "public domain" category and assume all my edits are therefore public domain. Angela. 22:44, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)
I considered that, but you are not the first person who has licenced various namespaces and edits differently. A good number of people do that (myself included). If you look at the category page itself there is a notice at the top of the page that states that many users do just that and that one should follow the links to get more detailed licensing information. Nevertheless, the talk page is fine, just so long as the categories are there! -- Ram-Man 22:48, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

Taff Vale Railway[edit]

I'm sorry, but you seem to have created two articles on the TVR! One is under T - the other under U ... ?

Peter Shearan

Sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about. I've never created an article on Taff Vale Railway and I don't understand what "the other under U" means. Angela. 13:05, Nov 21, 2004 (UTC)

Help with wiki code[edit]

Hi. I've recently set up my own wiki, but have been unable to find out how to edit the navigation pannel on the left. Is there any documentation anywhere about this? I will be greatful of any help you can give.

This is covered in the MediaWiki FAQ. See how do I add my own menu items? for example. If that doesn't help, a good place to ask is on the #mediawiki IRC channel, or the mediawiki-l mailing list. Hope that helps :) Angela. 22:10, Nov 21, 2004 (UTC)

History forum[edit]

I want to know if Wikipedia has any kind of size limitation, or is it being expanded? I actually think Wikipedia should have an special History Facts Discussion Board, in which people fromm all countries in the world could discuss specifically articles about history, with their different views. I do not know if this is the best way to make this idea go to someone important in the Wikipedia world, but that´s the way I found to do it. Fabio Burch 23:12, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)

LinkBot[edit]

Hi Angela, Thank you for setting the bot flag for LinkBot. Just a quick question on something I'm unsure about: If the trial goes OK, what I was planning on doing was to then ask Wikipedia talk:bots for permission to run it on a larger scale, and then proceed if there was consensus. Do I need to also ask at m:requests for permissions for this (i.e. same purpose, bigger scale), or is it sufficient to ask at Wikipedia talk:bots? All the best, -- Nickj 00:27, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

LanguageKa[edit]

Hi, Angela. I just translated most of m:LanguageKa.php and I would like to give it a try to see if everything so far is ok. How can I do it? Who should I ask or where should I post that I want to give it a try? I would prefer someone experienced to have a look at it first just in case...
Thanks, Malafaya 20:43, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi again, Angela. Thanks for the reply. I left a notice on the page you mentioned (in the right sub-category). I'm just afraid it might take long... :(. About the namespaces, so far all the pages under namespaces fall in the original namespaces. That means we haven't created any under the new names. I'm hoping the "old" ones will be moved to the new namespace. Thanks again. --Malafaya 13:50, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Offensive vandalism (Tigriyana Wikipedia)[edit]

Hi Angela! I'm sorry to bother you, and I apologize for the link I'm about to post here, but I discovered this extremely offensive vandalism on the Tigriyana Wikipedia whilst checking its statistics: [2]. Wikisource (new document in compliance with board's decision)[edit]

Hi Angela. I want to let you know that I have started a new page at Wikisource called Language Domain Requests that is meant to permanently monitor developments related to your decision regarding language domains.

It wasn't my decision and it wasn't a board decision. This was a community vote, not the Board saying what should be done. There is clearly not consensus on this issue yet.

It has a special section for people to record current and future requests for language domains, and a completely separate section to specifically keep track of the current opinions of Wikisource's "heavy contributors" regarding whether to grant or deny language domains to those who have requested them.

Thanks for making the page. I hope it will help to create a consensus over this issue eventually.
Thanks for your very prompt reply (aren't you supposed to be on vacation or something :-). Dovi 04:42, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

I have very deep respect and admiration for your incredible contributions to Wikimedia. When you have deep respect for someone, you give them the benefit of the doubt even when you deeply disagree with them, and that is the case here as well. My deep respect stands despite the fact that I think the board's handling of this particular problem was deeply flawed.

To put it simply, the board had every right to say, and should have said, that when there is clear interest by an entire language community for a domain in their own tongue within a language-intensive, text-based project, that it is not Wikimedia policy to deny such a request. Period. The Germans made such a request.

But what arguments are there that the Germans should decide this rather than allowing the whole Wikisource community to decide it?
The argument is simply that on a language-intensive, text-based project, when there is a clear desire from a language community, that this is a fundamental Wikimedia right (the commitment to full multilingualism) that should not be subject to vote at all. Do we subject NPOV, as a policy, to a vote? No, because it is a fundamental policy of Wikimedia. Available and needed language support should be a fundamental policy as well. In fact, from the very beginning I assumed that it was. Dovi 04:42, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

The current "Language Domain Requests" honors your decision in that it will continue to monitor the opinions of the heavy users with hundreds of contributions, and if and when there is a shift in attitude among them - it will then be possible to introduce language-domains under the criterion that you have spelled out. But there is no reason to be optimistic about this, for two reasons that are not likely to change:

  • Most monolingual users who would actively participate in their own domains will not remain long in the current Wikisource, and will not become heavy users whose votes can be counted. hewikisource: is ample proof that Wikisource language domains work, but few if any of the contributors there now would have participated in the general wikisource.org environment.
  • Far worse is the fact that serious Wikisource contributors who do not see eye-to-eye with a certain heavy contributor tend to simply leave the project. (As you and I both did earlier on; had you yourself not left, a lot of things would be different there now.) This fact makes it all the less likely that the balance of opinion among the heavy contributors will eventually change. Your decision to count only the heavy contributors greatly strengthens the hand of a "benevolent dictator" on a small project in the long term.
  • I completely agree, but I don't see how the Board can fairly overrule the vote without looking heavy handed and as though they are ignoring the wishes of the community.

As above, should "communities" (however small) have the right to deny language domains in text-based, language-intensive projects? I think this specific question is so fundamental to the very nature of Wikimedia that I would like to take it to Jimbo for his comments/advise, and perhaps he can help find some way out of this mess.

But because of the very deep respect I mentioned earlier, I will not do it without your blessing, because the board has after all made a decision. If you strongly think the matter should just rest, I will let it do so and that's it. But if you do not in any way mind my bringing this to Jimbo even after the board's decision, then I would like to. If the latter is the case (i.e. you don't mind), then please let me know the most efficient way is to contact him about this sort of issue. You can contact me via e-mail if necessary. Dovi 20:21, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

We're going to be having a Board meeting on the 12th or 13th of December. I'll put it on the agenda for then if you are happy to wait that long before the issue is raised. I certainly have no obection to you asking Jimbo's advice on this before that date if you want to though. Angela. 21:23, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)
I am certainly happy "to wait that long" or even longer, and thanks! I much prefer that this go through official channels as part of the board's agenda. So even though you yourself have no objection I would prefer to wait. Thanks again! Dovi 04:42, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Working with images is very frustrating[edit]

What is the proper way to revert vandal images? I've struggled with images throughout my time on wikipedia and am finally giving up. Whenever I click on the (rev) (assuming this will revert the current image back to the version to the right of the (rev) link) link next to an image, I get the wrong version of the image I want. You can see my luck with images like Image:Billgates.jpg. This is obviously quite the problem because I appear to be vandalising and get in disputes with other wikipedians when I don't want to vandalise at all, but am simply trying to use what seems an awkward system, that should be incredibly easy. What am I missing? Thanks. --Flockmeal 01:47, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

POV[edit]

A relatively new user Critical has added the POV banner to the logical argument article. I tried to respond to her/his comments, but I noticed that the same user has added the same banner to a range of articles, including physical law and mathematical rigor. Now it's possible this user is trying to make a philosophical point: complete NPOV is not possible, but who knows what their intentions are. What do you think we should do?

Though I am an admin, I don't like the idea of restricting anybody, particularly, since the activities of said user are relatively harmless (I think). Please have a look at the logical argument talk page and respond. I've also alerted Charles Matthews and Chalst (who has an interest in the logic pages).

Thanks

CSTAR 03:20, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Part of the confusion you express below, helas, is of my own making: The vandalized page I was trying to refer to is logical fallacy not logical argument. I get them confused, since I have made extensive contributions to both those pages and they're dependent on each other. But in any case the response is in the logical fallacy talk page.CSTAR 14:53, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

'About Users Critical and CStar

For the record, the user Critical ( talk, contributions), who slapped the "disputed NPoV" sticker on some pages, has made his or her first edits tonight (or today) and within less than two hours has attacked eight articles for PoV, including (ironically given the CStar example given on the Logical fallacy talk page), Physical law. These were the only "edits" (plus weak justifications on talk pages in the same vein as this one). I don't think the PoV claim has merit. We may ask if this series of attacks is to be taken seriously.

For the following reasons I am thinking that these pages has been the victim of a tiresome semi-sophisticated troll and the PoV sticker should be removed sooner rather than later, if not immediately. We may note that CStar ( talk, contributions) after making edits, paused during the period user Critical made edits, and then CStar took up responding to these edits after the series of user Critical edits ends, as if there is only one user involved, and the user logged out, changed cookies and logged back in. Further, user CStar left a note on Charles Matthew's talk page, Chalst's talk page, and Angela's talk page pointing to a supposed PoV accusation placed on the Logical argument page, when in fact no such sticker has been placed. Perhaps the irony regarding the Physical law page is not so ironic. Hu 05:19, 2004 Dec 1 (UTC)

I have no idea what this is about. Maybe it's just too early in the morning, but my first impression is that someone whose first edits are adding NPOV tags to maths articles is probably being purposefully disruptive, and certainly unlikely to be a new user. Angela. 06:40, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)
I'm having a hard time figuring this out myself, but someone seems to be suggesting I put in the POV banners myself. This seems really weird, and I can't quite figure out why this person wants to attribute this motive.CSTAR 13:52, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
How strange. I don't see a reason why someone would think you a sockpuppet.
I've removed the remaining tags as explained at User talk:Critical.
Angela. 20:41, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Point of information

I have added the following paragraph to the above referenced pages:

I have responded to this on the logical fallacy talk page, as well as on the pages of the above mentioned users. It does appear that these pages were as Hu suggests the victim of a tiresome semi-sophisticated troll. But I wasn't the perpetrator. This suggestion appears to have been an honest mistake, I consider the matter closed, and it appears that Hu does as well. CSTAR 01:50, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Current events archive[edit]

This morning I moved current events to November 2004, but I haven't done it quite correctly.

As there already was a November 2004 in existence I cut/pasted, and now realise that the history hasn't moved. Rather than make it even more of a mess, can I ask you to deal with it?

See you Friday! Martin 15:40, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Fixed now. There's also the new requested moves page where you can request such fixes. Angela. 20:41, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)
Where's the history? I want to know who suppressed information for dubious reasons. Kevin Baas | talk 00:07, 2004 Dec 2 (UTC)
Perhaps I misunderstood the question, but if you mean the history of the November 2004 page which used to be current events, then it is at [3]. Who is suppressing what information exactly? The page was just moved since it's no longer November and this is how the archive is made every month. Angela. 00:19, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)
Oh no, I'm not blaming you. I knew what was up. The events on nov. 30 for 2004 us presidentail election controversy were remarked out. The page you refered me to doesn't show who did this. Kevin Baas | talk 00:35, 2004 Dec 2 (UTC)
Do you have a link that shows anything being "remarked out". Do you mean commented out? If so, I don't see anything on November 30 commented out. If it ever happened, then it will be in the page history. It isn't possible in the current version of the software for anyone to remove particular entries from the history of a page. Angela. 00:47, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)
I guess I didn't look far enough down in the history. Sorry I bothered you. Thanks. Kevin Baas | talk 00:57, 2004 Dec 2 (UTC)

Help[edit]

Angela, User:Gtabary has been continuously harrasing me on the Johor Bahru articles I wrote, especially the Medical Specialist Centre hospital. Just justify, he claims that the hospital I wrote is not a noticeable place. Consider as well, search for Hospitals in Wikipedia and you see many non-noticeable hospitals as well. Is this fair? Why must the "curse" land on me and not all the others who write about private hospitals? People who raise private hospitals are rich and prominent people. Thanks, User:Chan Han Xiang

It may be best to wait and see what the outcome of the VfD vote is, but there is a Wikipedia:Dispute resolution process if you think that might help. Angela. 17:20, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Artificial Consciousness, unfortunately again[edit]

User asked for mediation at [4] after I requested for comment at Wikipedia:Request for Comment to prevent a possible edit war, after user deleted the whole talk page, and wants to replace the whole article with his text ( Talk:artificial consciousness ). The user asks for procedure, which is not provided by Wikipedia rules, and cannot be voted for by these rules, ie he wants to move the article to another article, which has a different heading, and therefore the most of the text belongs to be deleted, or edited out, as it does not correspond to the heading, and then to replace the whole original article by a text written by him. The parts of the article relevant to Strong AI were already transferred to the Strong AI article. He was asked to edit the article normally, and add his text, but he doesn't want to do it this way. Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tkorrovi 15:38, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

If you say at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation which mediator you want, I'm sure someone will be able to sort this out fairly soon. Angela. 17:24, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)
I said on the talk page that I would like you to mediate, though I understand if you refuse, as I see from this talk page how busy you are. In that case, I would be thankful if you would recommend another mediator. Also, concerning that article, I hope only the biggest problem to be solved, a repeated attempts to delete the whole content of the article by different means, instead of editing it normally, and accompanied frequent offenses, or then delete the article. Different from other comments here, I even didn't ask to solve the NPOV attack problem, ie that Paul Beardsell in his only edit recently added NPOV label again, without explaining the reasons anywhere, in spite that I asked him on his talk page, and after the NPOV conflict was solved by the rules of Wikipedia.
Several months ago, Paul Beardsell added NPOV label on article, and wrote the reasons for NPOV on talk page. After that, all these questions were answered, with no objections by him in several months. I was afraid to remove NPOV label though, being afraid of new offenses by him. But then resently the user removed 30% of the article, and the NPOV label. Then I said that NPOV conflict must be solved first, made the appropriate changes in accordance with the answers on talk page, and had to remove the NPOV label. Shortly after that, as I said, Paul Beardsell added NPOV label again, in spite that nothing in the article was changed.
But I don't ask this problem to be solved, this is a minor problem compared to all much bigger problems regarding this article. I agree the NPOV label to remain, if this helps to avoid further conflicts with Paul Beardsell and Matthew Stannard. Again, so sorry for taking your time with these problems, I know you are busy, and I'm very thankful to you. Tkorrovi 18:07, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Sorry, I haven't looked at the talk page yet. I may get a small amount of time to do that this weekend, but I would really suggest a different mediator would be better, since I'm going to be writing stuff for Quarto and preparing for the Soros foundation grant meeting this weekend, and then I will be away with no computer from Monday. Angela. 18:58, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)
OK, I understand you are busy, I prefer you but in case if you really don't find a time for this, I would be thankful if you would recommend another mediator. It also doesn't have to be dealt with quickly, it's important that some time something would be done, even if it's a comment or point of view of a person not involved. Thank you. Tkorrovi 19:20, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Category:Artificial lakes[edit]

Hi - you recently added a new category Category:Artificial lakes. There was an existing category, Category:Reservoirs, which seems mighty similar to me. What would you think about merging these and/or simply deleting Category:Artificial lakes (via WP:CFD)? -- Rick Block 16:44, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ok. I only created it because 2 pages had that category tag in them already. I've changed those to sub-categories of the Category:Reservoirs now. Angela.

The exciting world of image tagging[edit]

Greetings! A while age you signed up to help tag images, so I thought I'd let you know what's been going on lately in the image-tagging world.

First off, things are moving slow, but at least they're moving in the right direction. (What I mean is, more images are tagged every month than the number of newly uploaded images without tags, so the net number of untagged images keep decreasing.) But judging from the progress on the lists at User:Yann/Untagged Images, most of the time it's just me tagging images. And it sure gets lonely out on the tagging prairie.

Second, I have basically rewritten the User:Yann/Untagged Images page. Hopefully that will make it easier for people to help, and will attract new recruits. What do you think of the new text and layout?

And third, there have been a bunch of new tags added in the last month. Check out Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the new tags and new organization, mostly done by Zondor.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Happy holidays! Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 17:34, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

It's boring and, since the addition of yet more tags, overly complicated. I can't think of a way to get people interested in helping with this. Angela. 02:27, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
We have a thriving community of image tag addicts [5], after some rumplestiltskinian publicity activities about a day ago, ye of little faith. Announcing the Humungous Image Tagging project on 200 likely-suspect talk pages was enough to kick start it. ;) --Tagishsimon (talk)
That's good to know. :) Angela.

Hi Angela,

Hope you're well m8, nice to see you still have ample amounts of text to read through from disputes etc ;)

just like to wish you a merry christmas and to let you know that Andy Mabbett and myself seem to have reached a compromise over Nick Mason (i think?) on the Birmingham page after so much deliberation.

You really wouldn't believe the ribbing i get for visiting this place after i let it slip at work once, my colleagues don't know the www. address though which is good for my temperament! :) the joke is that my last job was as a senior at one of the largest domain name and web space providors in the UK and i was actually encouraged to use the net as much as possible... i do still try :) but i find it interesting the predudice towards the net that still exists in this country by some people. Birmingham is one of the least most internet sophisticated places in the UK especially for it's size, most potential users are most likely discussing the pro's and con's of the net down their local. Meetup[edit]

Your name is on the list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC for December 12. In case you forgot to check the page, the venue and time have been both been set. We are planning on meeting at the Moonstruck Diner at 1:30pm. Just wanted to let you know. -- Ram-Man 23:09, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

I shall trust other people to decide this. I've never been to New York, so I have no idea if that's a good choice or not. :) Angela 02:27, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)

RFC pages on VfD[edit]

Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:17, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Franz Halder[edit]

Hello Angela: I had added some biographical text pertaining to the German WWII General FRANZ HALDER in the already-existing bio page. However, you apparently found my work, and (if I understand your note) you thought it may have been cut from some other article. I wrote the text myself, and tried to cut & paste it in from my MS-Word document. This may not have worked. Please inform me BILLGARRISONJR@MINDSPRING.COM how I should retype my text to have it inserted back into the Franz Halder Wikipedia page.

What I thought my main problem was that when I try to create a new article, my sentences seems to run into the right-hand side margin for seveal feet. How do I click some "wrap around" button (or column width -- and what should it be?) so that my column width matches Widipedia's 8-9 inches or so?

Also, where is "spell check" when I'm writing an article?

Thank you for your review of this inquiry.

I've also writen articles on ABRAHAM ADAN and WALTER WARLIMONT. Someone has apparently incorporated wrap-around in them for me. -- BillGarrisonJr

OK, won't do it again.[edit]

However, you were pretty rude to me when all I did was make a mistake. Thanks for the lovely remarks on my talk page. I notice you are the only admin to comment on this. Considering not all admins read the mailing list, and policy is not formed there I think this would also be an inappropriate forum. - Ta bu shi da yu 04:19, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cool. I was a bit steamed up about the whole block thing. I wasn't aware that messaging all admins was considered "spam" when it was an administrative question about VfD. You might like to comment on Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Ta bu shi da yu. - Ta bu shi da yu 05:01, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

My CAT is above perfect! I can write any stupid article about him, and YOU, my friend, can mind your own ******* ****** ***** business! (Note: Those asteriks weren't supposed to mean specific words. I apologize for my anger.)

Deletion request[edit]

Hi, I created an account from the advice of a friend. I've tried it out and I wish to be anonymous again - the insults, insinuations, and general unfriendly reception I've read is too much for me to tolerate. I do not wish to stoop to the level of name-calling and unsupported speculations. So far, I have not experienced anything beneficial compared to being just anonymous before. So, I would like to exercise my RightToVanish. Please delete my user page, talk page, and reassign my contributions to FormerUser. Thank you. .:. 05:46, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Right to vanish really applies to people using their real name or a name they usually go by on the internet. Are you really bothered that your one page move be reassigned away from your four dots user name? Your other contributions are to talk pages, which you've signed, so those can't be removed as your signature will remain in the page history. There is no reason you can't go back to not using an account and forget about ".:." account that never really edited anyway, is there? However, if you do feel it is worthwhile to pursue this, the correct page to request that on is Wikipedia:Changing username as this is not something I can do for you. I'm sorry if you feel you have been insulted, but perhaps you would find if you continued to edit and built up some trust under this account, that this would change. Angela. 06:46, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I've felt quite perterbed by the whole situation. I was only trying to help retain an article on vfd, but afterwards I was called a 'moron' and my motives were taken in bad faith. According to Wikipedia:Account deletion, it states that I can contact a developer and have my account renamed. It says that using my real name is a particular case and not the general rule. I would really like to have this account gone as a way to forget this whole incident occurred. It brings up very upsetting feelings for me every time I visit this site and become reminded of what happened. I humbly plead for my account's deletion to put my mind at rest. I feel very traumatized by the situation and would like to have peace of mind whenever I visit your site. Thank you for your time. .:. 07:34, 11 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Ok. You could try contacting a developer who has done name changes in the past, such as Kate or Tim Starling, or you could use the Changing username page. Angela 07:56, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)

Strange wanted pages headings[edit]

Hi. Can you please explain to me why you are listed as Angela (troll) (talk page as well) in Special:Wantedpages? The other pages also look strange, especially this. --kooo 21:06, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)

It's a result of page move vandalism and the links table not updating properly. It's a known bug. Angela.

Rollback[edit]

On Wikipedia talk:How to revert a page to an earlier version, you said "The rollback feature is only for vandalism." Is this official policy? I saw no mention of it on the associated project page; Wikipedia:Administrators makes reference to using it for vandalism, but does't explicitly say that's all it's to be used for.

Obviously, it would be good if the question were decided one way or the other, and formally noted on a policy page. When I first thought about it, I disagreed with you (see my reasoning at Wikipedia_talk:Administrators#Reverting). More recently, I have come to agree with your position. I will use manual rollback in any case where I think an edit is ill-advised, whether the policy change is made, or even if we explicitly decide to not make this restriction, for the reason I gave in the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Administrators#Reverting. Noel (talk) 04:41, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I don't think it is official. I was just basing that comment on something Brion said to me a long time ago. It's probably not a problem often enough to bother making the policy more complicated by having this be official. Angela.

Amazigh (berber WikiPedia!)[edit]

Dear Angela, Sophia and Andre from Portuguese Wikipedia oriented me to you to get the help to set up and start the Amazigh (Berber) Wikipedia. I am a volenteer activist for the promotion of the Amazigh (Berber) language and culture. Because of the frustrating absence of a real important lexic , dictionary or translation source of Amazigh, i decided to start a project on WikiPedia.

Please, can you give me a help ?

Best regards

amayas

Please see meta:Requests for new languages for details on how to propose a new language Wikipedia. Angela.

3RR Request[edit]

I probably won't be able to do this myself, as their seems to be a religious conspiracy against me in the arbitration committee (including an arbitrator proposing a ban immediately after an accusser suggested it before I even have time to make a defence, and an arbitrator who was not a part of the case suddenly appearing and voting), so;

I was wondering, could you possibly propose an amendment to 3RR?

Specifically to make it so that pages should not be reverted more than 6 times in total within 24 hours except in cases of demonstrable obvious vandalism

To prevent a POV gang

  • getting their side's POV out against an NPOV, but single, editor
  • proceeding to being able to block their opponents by decrying "3RR violation"

? CheeseDreams

I don't see how upping the limit to 6 would solve the problems you suggest exist. Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Board meeting[edit]

Hi Angela!

Did anything happen at the board meeting?

In the meantime, there is more to read about the ongoing Wikisource saga at:

There is a big need for someone competent (i.e. not myself!) to update the translation of the Php codes at he.wikisource.org. Two other people have already asked that it be done, and someone good has volunteered to do it. Has the request been made correctly? [6]

(PS Please forgive if due to an error this note appeared twice.) Dovi 00:38, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

We didn't get a chance to discuss this at the last meeting. It'll definitely be on the next one though, or discussed informally before that. Angela
Missed that note somehow. OK, keep me informed! When is the next meeting planned for? Dovi 16:18, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
Not until New Year since Anthere is now on holiday. Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for taking care of user:Felagund, and Merry Christmas! Dovi 06:34, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)

If you're still in NYC ...[edit]

If you're still in NYC when you read this you might want to check out the following link: http://www.nynewsday.com/entertainment/dining/nyc-guestrest1216,0,3965864.story?coll=nyc-dining-promo

I've been to the Oyster Bar, Katz's, Grimaldi's and Peter Luger's.

When my friend visits from Sydney he always enjoys the HUGE Pastrami sandwich at Katz's (the place made famous for the fake orgasm scene in the movie "When Harry Met Sally".)

The Oyster Bar and Grand Central Station are worth a visit just to see the ceilings even if you don't want to grab a meal.

Grimaldi's has good pizza... but they only sell whole pies.

Peter Lugers uses the same beef in their burgers as the do in their aged steaks. Go at lunchtime and you'll get better service.

Not on the list is another place I take my friend from Sydney: If you like good South Indian food check out Banjara at 97 First Avenue in Manhattan (corner of East 6th street) where you can get both veggie and non-veggie dishes that are yummy. (There are less expensive Indian restaurants on East 6th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues...some with live music in the evenings.)

Paullaw 14:31, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did read this while in New York, but didn't get time to do any of these things. I'll add them to my to-do list if I ever go back. :) Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Sustainability category/project/series[edit]

Hi. I noticed you have worked on the Sustainability page. There has been, as you might expect, a little heat recently at the Hubbert Peak page, and some of us are discussing ways we might better organize the information about energy sources and developments. Articles/subjects that we are discussing the organization/hierarchy of include Hubbert Peak, Energy development, Sustainability, Future energy development, Alternatives to oil. It occurred to me that you might have some fresh ideas about how to go about organizing a rational hierarchy, whether it be a project, a system of categories, a series, or simply an informal vision. Please give your input at the bottom of Talk:Hubbert Peak. Tom - Talk 17:29, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

I only made a minor edit removing an irrlevant link. It's not a topic I know all that much about. Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Mediation[edit]

I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but I think you're an admin so you're the right person to talk to. I'm having a lot of disputes with User:DrZoidberg, so please look at his talkpage, my talkpage, and also our joint entry on WP:VIP (although we didn't get blocked over this). I'm afraid that if you don't, I will be compelled to leave Wikipedia through not being able to carry on with him. Thankyou, and do reply soon,--Honeycake (please reply on my talkpage!!) 18:22, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)

From ko[edit]

Hi Angela,

I've found by accident a website that has completely copied ko wikipedia from A to Z. A matter which leaves me speechless! Have you been informed about it? That Web address: http://bvio.kaist.ac.kr/Bvio/index.php/Main_Page.
Today(17. Dec), I proof the site again, but I could hardly connect with URL. --19:23, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC) 아흔

I think that's up to the people who are electing the arbitrators to decide. Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Dealing with problematic text in archived VfD subpages with high Google rankings[edit]

You've been around Wikipedia a while, and have always helped me with other issues, so I'm hoping you might have some suggestions with this. Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Gabriel Uzquiano has had speedy tags added a couple times, expressing concern that a prank is embarrassing the subject individual. I, and others, have removed the tags, which I guess is why I got the email that I have posted here (including my reply and their follow-up response). Any ideas of how to fix this? (I don't know what policy is on archived material, EG editting or deleting it.) Policies or precedents you can point me to? etc. Thanks Niteowlneils 04:11, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

There isn't really a policy, but I think people's privacy ought to be respected. Would blanking the page so it didn't show up in Google searches be a solution if people are opposed to deleting it? Angela. 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
See, I knew you'd be a good person to ask, because you'd probably come up with a good solution even if there was no policy or precedent to fall back on. I've replaced the page with a brief note to use the edit history if someone wants to view the discussion (mostly so a) it's less likely to get reverted as 'vandalism', and b) it doesn't get speedied as a 'blank page'). It solves the problem without doing anything as drastic as deleting it, which I think some people would object to on the grounds that then 'only admins' could review the discussion. Thanks. Niteowlneils 05:25, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
PS Note[7]--blanking is definately the 'path of least resistance'. Niteowlneils 05:46, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Pashto Wikipedia[edit]

Is there any reason that you should be mentioned on the Pashto Main Page? Somebody wrote "Angela does not speak Pashto there.", and somebody else removed it (with an explantion in some Arabic script, which I can't read). I restored it on the grounds that you've got a good chance of being a sysop there -- perhaps the only one -- and included even a link to your (nonexistent) user page there. Was that right, or should I just remove it again? -- Toby Bartels 09:57, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

There's no reason I should be mentioned on the main page of ps: and I don't see any reason I would want to be a sysop there. It's just Node ue trolling for some strange reason. Angela 21:53, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
OK, I removed the sentence again.

-- Toby Bartels 23:20, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks. Angela

More Christmas greetings[edit]

Dear Angela, Christmas greetings. I have just read your account of the NY trip on WikiSearch. Such a week you have had would flatten me (such is the fate of the elderly!!) so I hope you are going to have time out now doing nothing but making space for yourself. You deserve it.Apwoolrich 22:09, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Yes I will, just as soon as I catch up on 1000 emails and everything else. ;) Happy Christmas to you as well. Angela. 22:15, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)

Bashkir Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, Angela! I want to start edition of Bashkir Wikipedia. Could you unblock this wiki?

Another request. Could Wikipedia to reserve some subdomains for all official languages, which are used in Russia (nearly 25, Tatar, Bashkir, Chuvash and Chechen are allready exist). But probably, this wikis could not to be in use for long time, becose there are not a lot of that lnguage speakers at wikipedia.

There is person, who want to start edition of the Wikipedia in Udmurt language (nearly 800,000 speakers) --Untifler 11:39, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

It's probably better to post these requests on m:Inactive wikis (sorry if that link is wrong, but meta is *really* slow for me). Angela isn't the only steward and she may be a bit busy with work the last few days, having recently gotten home. Pakaran (ark a pan) 18:52, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)
All stewards have lost their powers since the upgrade of MediaWiki. I'll try to find a developer to do this manually. For Udmurt, you'd need to follow the procedure at m:Requests for new languages. Subdomains don't need to be reserved as such. They can just be created once there are people who want to edit those languages. Angela. 22:06, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
Thank you! --Untifler 11:57, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)
ba is now unlocked. Angela. 13:55, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)

Ko wiki and a imitated wiki[edit]

Hi, Angela,

I am really irritated because of the almost completely list of articles storaged in http://bvio.kaist.ac.kr/Bvio/index.php/Main_Page; username who has last edited articles on ko appear in history on that site, linked to ko user page! You can proof it easily, e.g. hier. It seems to be a problem of wikipedia software which that site has installed. Thanks for reference to transl. letter --18:08, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC) 아흔

LanguageRu[edit]

Greetings, Angela. I am Ramir from ru:Wikipedia and Wikibooks. Since yours was the second familiar name on the Developers list (after Brion Vibber), I ask you, on behalf of the Russian Wikipedia users, to update the language files: meta:LanguageRu.php and the newly created meta:LanguageWikibooksRU.php. Thank you very much if you do this. (The ru:w language file hasn't been updated for a very long time). Ramir 07:30, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Since it's not something I have any experience of doing, I asked in #mediawiki if anyone else could do it but have got no response so far. Btw, swearing on the Requests for languageXX.php update page isn't likely to increase the chance of this being updated. Angela 13:53, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)
Sorry for swearing, but I just couldn't think of a better way of expressing great irritation. Also I have only just noticed the note at the top of that page, saying it is deprecated. Fine, but how can I get the right people's attention without going on to bothering others (eg you) on their personal talk pages? (I don't know what #mediawiki is. A newsgroup?) By editing locale files we are also doing Wikimedia a little favor, since the load on the server is lower when the l10n is done through .php files as opposed to MediaWiki: namespace. Ramir 08:16, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)
You could try m:Non-development tasks for developers, but with only volunteer developers, there's never going to be any guarantee people want to do these sorts of boring tasks. Asking a developer directly might help, and Hasher seems to have done a few of these lately, so he might be a good person to ask first. Angela. 03:28, Dec 26, 2004 (UTC)
Thank you! But note that his name is Hashar, not Hasher. So... yeah, it looks like I have to ask the right people in person (while I don't know many). Ramir 07:37, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)

W.C. Handy[edit]

Merry Christmas, Angela! I hope the holidays bring much peace and joy to you and yours. My concern regards the changes I've made to the W.C. Handy page. Upon my observation, I first thought the page was plagiarized and hence very well may have violated copyright. However, I was wrong. Yet, the information contained on the original page did not reference any source or citation, save for a brief, excerpted online version of a biography which was (and remains) in no wise exemplary. As a long-time resident of the area of Handy's birth, I have done research into his life and music. Motivated by what I perceived to be a poorly written article which was little better than a stub, I completely rewrote it, citing sources, and adding external links to current events that celebrate and commemorate his work. Referencing the previous article, there was (and which I incorprated in a revision) a reference to some of his works which I felt though only somewhat appropriate, would be better suited in a musicology article. They mentioned only one person's opinion - the writer - again, with no source citation of any kind. In my complete rewrite, I referenced the subject's autobiography, and several independent sources which are included in the external links. There is, in my estimation, a more fully complete picture of the breadth and character of the subject, and one which the casual visitor/reader would find fascinating. One example is that he started his own highly successful publishing company in an era of aparteid, and was widely acclaiamed by all. Though that detail was not necessarily of itself important, in context of the time, it was. And, seeking to present and offer understanding of the subject in context of his era and the current era was my objective. Please take a look at the article(s) and share your thoughts with me. Realize also however, that some minor formatting issues may be present, forwhich others more experienced will hopefully and gladly correct. The main thrust of my concern is for content, not mark-up. Wishing you a Warm and Kind Christmas, K. L. Bardon 17:26, Dec 22, 2004 (UTC)

Block log[edit]

While you are fooling about with testing blocks, can you see what's wrong wtih the formatting of the block log? The userpage, talk, contribs links are getting extra sets of brackets - way ugly. Since (if?) you've got the power can you fix it? --Whosyourjudas\talk 03:59, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The "fooling around with testing blocks" was an attempt to see how it could be fixed. Currently, it's formatted properly, but with far less information that it used to contain, in part due to bug 1156. Angela. 14:36, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

New bureaucrat log[edit]

Hi Angela,

Will you be posting an explanation of how the new bureaucrat log is searched? Thx -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 06:13, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I wasn't intending to but I might if no one else does. Basically, you just add a user name or some text to the fields at the top of Special:Log/rights. Currently, no sysops have been made on en since 1.4 so it won't do anything, although you can test it at meta:Special:Log/rights. The old log is still at Wikipedia:Bureaucrat log. I was intending to link this from the new one, but there is no editable text at the top of the new log due to bug 1168 (now fixed, new template is at MediaWiki:Rightslogtext). Angela. 14:36, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

WT:AN[edit]

Actually, I was fairly careful (when I sorted out stuff on WP:AN just after it was set up) to make sure things were in the right context, and I think your comment was in the right place, with all similar comments. However, since you originally posted it on TBSYD's Talk: page (before he moved the entire lot to WP:AN), you have every right to delete it from WT:AN; I just wanted to reply to your (unknowing :-) comment on my sorting-out. Need help[edit]

Hi,

I asked on talk page of 'jimmy' that in which name space I should place my stub Wikipedia:User Suggestions. So can you help me in this?

Zain 15:59, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

If these are supposed to be feature suggestions, then MediaZilla: would be a better place to put them. A lot of these are also covered on Meta: already. I don't think any namespace on the English Wikipedia is going to be a very useful place for these. Angela. 12:33, Dec 29, 2004 (UTC)
No they are not feature suggestions (although some users might give some). They are generic suggestions. In order to encourage users to share their positive ideas/suggestions with other wikipedians. Actually I made a page before about Criticism of Wikipedia. Some people thought it is not in correct name space.(Although I intended it to be an encyclopedic article). It was asked for delete. (Currently it seems that vote to delete will fail). So I am just asking that is the name space for Wikipedia:User Suggestions is 'incorrect enough' to be ask for deletion?
Zain 12:44, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
It's hard to tell at the moment, since no one is using it, whether the page will be useful enough to keep. Angela. 12:38, Dec 30, 2004 (UTC)

Quote Unquote[edit]

Salve, Angela! I set up an account on Wikiquote a while back and for my user page put in a redirect to my Wikipedia user page. I'd like to change that now but can't access it to do so because when a redirect crosses over the blue link "Redirected from" does not appear. I'm wondering if you could blank or delete my Wikiquote user page so I could start over there? (I'm asking you because while I'm an admin here, I don't have privileges there.)
Second, is there a list of Wikiquote admins? I tried to call up one using the "Special" function as can be done here, but it didn't work. Further, there is no page of recently created admins and the RFA page there was last edited eight months ago.
Thanks for your help. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 18:49, Dec 30, 2004 (UTC)

  • Salve, Angela!
Thanks very much for your help with Wikiquote. As for the admins list, I must have typed the wrong thing; it came up fine from the link you supplied. I guess I'm used to all the activity here; Wikiquote in comparison felt like a ghost town. Again, ago gratias. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 19:31, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

Credibility[edit]

Angela, can you direct me to a serious community discussion of ways to improve Wikipedia's perceived credibility? Thanks. Oh, and of course you can answer me here. Thanks for all you continue to do for the Wikimedia projects. Tom - Talk 22:23, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

Good question. A lot of it has been on the mailing lists, so isn't easy to point at. On the wiki, related pages include all those talking about having stable versions of articles since those could lead to an option for users to view only credible revisions of articles, so perhaps those, and their talk pages, might be good starting points, but there is no one place with all this discussion. See Wikipedia:Pushing to 1.0, m:Article validation, Wikipedia:Approval mechanism, m:Reviewed article version. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Fact and Reference Check is also relevant. Angela. 23:08, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks and have a happy new year. Tom - Talk 23:32, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

I tried on IRC and no luck either. As to the page on meta, there are lots of requests there with no indication that anyone did anything. I'd also like to get the date format options working. Do you know someone who works on the code that I could ask? -phma 18:45, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Stub sorting policy[edit]

When I joined the Wikipedia, I started on helping by sorting stubs into categories for users to find articles they prefer to edit. Now, the stub list has grown considerably, far much more than I ever expected. You seem to be a very good voice of reason, so I am turning to you to ask if you could make your suggestions in achieving a consensus on a stub sorting policy. I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. -- AllyUnion (talk) 08:02, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Do yo think this needs to be a policy? It seems a bit extreme just for the placement of stub tags. Could it just be a guideline like all the ones in other WikiProjects instead? Angela. 12:38, Dec 30, 2004 (UTC)
Actually, I am trying to limit the creation of stubs. There has been a recent explosion of stubs, and I wish to cut down on the number of templates. -- AllyUnion (talk) 06:19, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I don't see how templates will prevent people creating stubs. Less templates would be nice though. :) Angela. 18:25, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
To clarify, it's more of setting guidelines of when to create a new stub template, and when not to. -- AllyUnion (talk) 07:08, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Deletion of a page My Daughter and I Created[edit]

Hi Angela, You are probably too busy to do anything about this, but I am upset. Some time ago I was extolling the virtues of Wikipedia to my 12 year old daughter and she and I together created a page for her school "Girls Middle School, Mountain View, California". I am upset because I just discovered that the page was deleted back in October. I found the discussion about deletion of the page and mostly the votes for deletion were because it was non-notable. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Girls%27_Middle_School%2C_Mountain_View%2C_California for details. I note that you consider yourself to be a non-deletionist so I wanted to ask you about this. I also bring it up with you since you had earlier flagged the page as being a possible copright violation (and you were right) so my daughter and I rewrote it and tried to make it more relevent and descriptive instead of being a puff piece taken from the website of the school. So, I am upset that it got deleted as being non-notable - it certainly is notable to my daughter and classmates.

Another issue I have is that I did not even know that the page was marked for discussion and deletion. In fact looking at my watchlist, there is no mention of the page at all anywhere! Isn't there a mechanism for notifying people that have a page on their watchlist that the page is about to get deleted? Maybe there was a period of time when I did not log on and check my watchlist, but I don't think so. Is there any recourse? If I recreate the page will it just get deleted again? Have the deletionists won? -- FrankH 05:03, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Why not have an article on the school? It would make wikipedia more complete than Encarta or any other encyclopedia out there. --JamesR1701E 23:59, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hi Angela, I gave FrankH some advice vis-a-vis his article, telling him essentially what I saw as missing, and suggesting he put up a new article, not the same old one. You may want to look at what I wrote on his talk. -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 01:51, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That looks like good advice. Thanks for telling me about it. Angela. 18:25, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

Change of Username[edit]

Hi Angela, I noticed that you used to be in charge of changing usernames on Wikipedia:Changing username. Since October 2004 no names have been changed. Maybe you could have a look at the growing list of unchanged usernames, or else recommend someone to me who could do the job? Thanks in advance! --Hippalus 09:03, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I've never changed anyone's username. I think Tim Starling, Fire and Kate are the people who have done this most in the past, although I'm not sure Kate or Fire have this ability any longer. Angela. 18:25, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

Sysoping on ANG[edit]

So, I link to the page on meta from within the ang.wikiquote/tionary/books.org sites? --JamesR1701E 20:54, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Done. Wiktionary - Wikiquote - Wikibooks (doesn't exist yet). --JamesR1701E 21:28, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I've tried creating a user account on ang.wikibooks.org, but it says "Error in numRows(): Table 'angwikibooks.user_rights' doesn't exist". I'll create the admin page thereon, though. --JamesR1701E 20:44, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I've created the admin page on ang.wikibooks.org - can you sysop me? Thanks for helping out! --JamesR1701E 10:44, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Done. Angela. 11:37, Jan 12, 2005 (UTC)

Your new user page[edit]

Dear Angela

Belated New Year Greetings. I like your redesigned user page - very classy. I have just changed to Firefox, and find that your new portrait is very pale. Is it meant to be like this? If not, maybe something wants tweaking somewhere. Maybe my display needs reconfiguring, but everything else on Wikipedia works fine, so perhaps not. Apwoolrich 08:47, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It's meant to be pale so it fits in better with the new color scheme. :) Angela. 09:17, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, well, it's very nice, but we can't actually see you :-( I preferred the other one, with the pretty dress. What, the one with the beard?" Can't take you anywhere, go wash your keyboard! --Phil | Talk 11:23, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

Greetings from Cologne[edit]

Hello love,

I really like the new user page look and the photo - very angelic :-). Sitting in an Internet cafe in a subway station -- 2 EUR/hour, but no IRC and no Firefox :-(. The interview went fine, though it took me some time to switch from technical answers to the social ones which the interviewer wanted. And I really should start ironing my shirts. ;-) It took place in a small cafe which is part of the WDR TV station, and we had lots of background noises to deal with, so we had to do another take whenever someone started hammering... I'm off to McDonald's in a minute and then I'll head to the second interview, which is on the subject of weblogs as an astroturfing tool (colloq. "public relations"). Then I'll have another couple of hours to waste, so I'll probably go shopping a bit. Talk to you when I'm back in Berlin! --Erik

If this and your user page indicate we have a wikiromance on our hands, congratulations you guys! Pcb21| Pete 21:55, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC) (delete if inappropriate)
Thanks. :) Angela. 00:43, Jan 16, 2005 (UTC)
:). My fiancee is forever complaining about how much time my wikiddiction takes up. Hopefully you guys will be more understanding with one another! Pcb21| Pete 06:28, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Wikiddiction? Isn't there a limit to how many portmanteaus one can legally use in one free content project? Not to mention that, dammit, Wikipedia is not an addiction, if only because no major government has gotten around to banning it yet! Pakaran 15:44, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
And from me too. It makes my old heart glad to see it. Apwoolrich 20:50, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hearty wishes from me too:) BTW, don't you people have personal email addresses;-) (just kidding, don't take it seriously) --Rrjanbiah 14:03, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
And from me, though I think I've already seen both of you on IRC. Pakaran 15:44, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ontmoeten[edit]

Hello Angela, what can we expect from the wikimeet in Amsterdam the coming days? I think sunday 23 is best to meet up, we're running a bit out of time for thursday, I guess... Make your suggestions on nl:Wikipedia:ontmoeten Thank you, Bontenbal 12:05, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I agree the 23rd seems most popular. I've replied at nl:Wikipedia:ontmoeten. Angela. 23:21, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Angela/Erik :)[edit]

Hope all is fine and dandy! Sorry to bring these here but... recently i have been finding many errors when editing the Brum related pages, these errors occur when i try to save my work, the reason given by wikipedia is that the servers are not 100%, is this classed as down time? anyway, i am sure i have seen requests for donations to help wikipedia survive as it grows to incredible, educational proportions.

This is fine but... a few random one off payments are NOT going to help Wikipedia remain an easily accesible power source which is quick and simple to edit, my suggestion would be to either:

a) remain free to view of course but for all members an anual fee of £5 (world equivalent) would be required to allow editors into the pages, this is a reasonable fee and would help with obvious expenses. I would definately be happy to pay this for the privelage to edit here.

I don't think we should ever charge people to edit. People already give up their free time; they shouldn't be required to give up their money as well. However, see meta:membership. Angela. 23:21, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

b) Keep wikipedia as it is but ask for a petition to be drawn up requesting educational funding with the signiatures and addresses of every single member of wikipedia worldwide, and with the donations from wikipedians a professional team from wikipedia could approach each and every government of contributing member countries with a view to keep Wikipedia free and accessible to every one regardless of creed, colour or religion (i'm talking about funding). After all Wikipedia is revolutionary in the sense that it is a mostly coherent mirror of society and would, i imagine, contribute vastly to people seeking information and eductaion online... for free!

See meta:grants for information on applying for educational funding. Angela. 23:21, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

I notice many wiki pages that i have edited are now being rated as high p.r. (importance) by google and other info sites are actually copying pages from wiki and pasting them as their own, this shows just how much wikipedia is regarded as a reliable and truthfull source for info.

Either that, or it's a good way for mirrors to make money through Google ads. :) Angela. 23:21, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)
:) Nick Boulevard 00:40, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Just a thought? Thanks :) Nick Boulevard 21:41, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You might also want to see meta:fundraising ideas and add any thoughts you have on raising additional money to that. Angela. 23:21, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)
I will look at the links but i do feel that option a) is more realistic (unfortunately) there is a marked difference between sitting at a computer on a night after work and editing 'stuff' for free as oposed to organising app's for grants (which need to be sustained), at least now i have a direction with your links, ta! =)

Need help with vandalism[edit]

List of songs deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel following the September 11, 2001 attacks has been repeatiately vandalized in the past few days. I would suggest having the page protected for a while. -- LGagnon 21:32, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia on major Brazilian magazine[edit]

Hi Angela. I thought you would like to know that Wikipedia has a story on it in this week's issue of the largest and most prestigious magazine in Brazil, Veja. It wasn't all positive though. Maybe you'd like to read my comment on the village pump about it? I also left a message on Jimmy Wales' talk page. Just thought this might interest you. Regards, Redux 02:15, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi again. Sorry for taking so long to reply to your post on my talk page. But I've put together a temporary post with a full translation of the article (accompanied by the original text). Here it is; I hope you like it. Regards, Redux 16:28, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. Angela. 18:12, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

Page rename please[edit]

I want to rename two article pages but, although I know how to do this, as I am an nth class citizen on The Wikipedia with no rights, if I do so admins will immediately wrongfully ban me. So could you change the name of them for me? The pages are:

[List of United Kingdom nations by population] and [List of United Kingdom nations by area]. There is only one UK and British is the only nationality of its people, as any Briton over the age of five knows. Perhaps there are 10 Frances too?! LOL!!! Thanks.WikiUser 18:14, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Angela, FYI, this is something that has been discussed at some length at Talk:England#National anthem way back in June 2004, and the consensus at the time was to describe the UK's constituent parts as nations rather than countries. Unfortunately WikiUser appears not to have accepted the consensus and is once again trying to delete the term "nations" in a number of UK-related articles. I don't think anyone would object to a change in terms if a consensus was in favour; perhaps WikiUser could propose an RfC to endorse such a change? -- ChrisO 18:50, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
That is not true. There was no consensus only abuse of me from the moment I joined and politely spoke to people. And you have targetted me for abuse constantly SINCE I JOINED. There is no possible debate about this. Britain is the nation. It is the law. And a fact that any British person from five up has known from 1707. Or look in any REAL encyclopedia. Come here with a scottish passport then. If people put "nationality scottish" on their census or other forms they will be liable for prosecution. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia!!!

As I took the trouble to point out on the page: "People should note please that: Putting information in articles that is 300 years out of date again and again, month after month, amounts to vandalism.

The Wikipedia Foundation's Wikipedia is a vehicle for constant anti-British and anti-English racism. And I have every right to oppose such filthy and ignorant racism. If people keep up their bizzare racism I insist that the same filth is done to America. For example that it is listed here as having no right to exist and is really a fake country, actually consisting of British, French and Mexican territories."

If I go to every page that mentions the USA and change them again and again for months on end to say that American is a British, Mexican and French territory, or even do it once, they'd all go nuts and start banning me as they have 3 times-each time it was against the stated rules.WikiUser 19:08, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

This seems potentially controversial, so I would advise that you list it at Wikipedia:Requested moves first. Angela. 20:01, Jan 26, 2005 (UTC)
There's nothing controversial about the name and existence of the UK except on the wikipedia. Thanks for your reply. I'll see how to list it and do it.WikiUser 20:32, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Embassy[edit]

Hi, Angela! I am adressing you, because I know that you helped establish Serbian Wikipedia (plus you are one of the most active users here on en: ). I've been elected by our community to represent Serbian Wikipedia on English Wikipedia, as ambassador. Here are my credentials. Now, i've looked on en:, but haven't found if there is any procedure to register person as ambassador (like in diplomacy when you give credentials to president of given country ;) . I'd appreciate if you could update me about this potencial procedure. --Obradović Goran (talk 23:53, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Interesting Decision[edit]

Angela, By the way, I am interested that you've decided to "nofollow" all the external links on WP. I guess announcing to Robots not to trust these links in assessing the web amounts to an admission that open edit is a failure and the content of WP isn't really maintained/quality. Personally I think particularly longer term content of WP IS of generally okay quality so you should consider some cleverer approach on external links (e.g. have a admin vetted list of valid domains for outward links) but if you guys feel the show is falling apart I guess I am not in a position to argue. Very sad though. --BozMo|talk 11:09, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

That decision hasn't been made yet. A vote is still going on at meta:Nofollow. Angela. 11:21, Jan 28, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, thanks I'll contribute --BozMo|talk 12:27, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Interestingly, there seems to be a very strong consensus that nofollow should be reversed but there is no timeframe or anything else for this to happen. There is one very vocal supporter of nofollow who seems to own the switch. Looks a bit like a failure of democracy, but these things happen --BozMo|talk 11:45, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
There does not seem to be any such consensus. 4 people want it off on en, 8 want it off everywhere, and ten want it kept on everywhere. How is a 12-10 vote consensus? The only consensus seems to be in terms of keeping it on for unattended wikis, which does not necessarily imply that people want it off for attended wikis. Angela.
So could you turn it into a formal vote with a close date? Current is 46-8 in favour of removing it for en.--BozMo|talk
I think there ought to be more discussion about the pros and cons before this is formally voted on. I would also suggest that the vote needs to be promoted more, across all languages, before it is closed. Angela. 02:38, Feb 3, 2005 (UTC)
Well, I admit you are right about that. The vote isn't cast about what to do immediately (perhaps it would be paranoid to suggest the wording is chosen to avoid any reversal) and re-reading the votes cast I didn't read the words carefully enough first time. I guess the fact that this seems to have been done (and nofollow is "on") w/o discussion has got a bit up my nose; rather irrational: I guess I would have been happy if sysops or Jimbo had gone in a corner and done it without consultation. But that a group of developers apparenly to have done it I don't like --BozMo|talk 21:01, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)
You seem better placed to highlight the discussion that me? But even you must find discussion post implementation a bit odd?--BozMo|talk 10:19, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
No, I didn't. Developers make decisions like this all the time. It's a technical decision, not an editorial one. Angela. 20:39, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)
Interesting reflection of how differently our brains are wired (you have astonished me on very other things in the past). IMHO it is clearly neither a technical nor an editorial decision but a political one. It is a public delaration that WikiPedia cannot be relied on even in the broad statistical sense which a search engine relies on sources. As said elsewhere, Britannia must have cracked champagne over this one. Roll on version 1.0 when presumably we'll be back to claiming we have usefulness as a source. --BozMo|talk 10:04, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I don't see joining in efforts to reduce spam as a reflection on our own view of the quality of our links. If people want good links chosen by Wikipedians, they can go to a Wikipedia article and see that. How does the effect on search engines help Wikipedia? Angela. 16:21, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)
Please note also a Vote in the english Wikipedia:Nofollow scheduled to end on February 26th, 2005. Sweets
Search Engines only exist for people, they don't have a separate existence and they are integral to how the web works. Saying "this page is not reliable for search engines" and "this page is unreliable" is IMHO an identical statement. If you want to become a better web authority the fact you push engines around will get noticed by people with other serious reference sites like universities etc. That brings in people, and they will want to improve our quality. People find WikiPedia using "backlinks" on google on a site, especially on university sites. Backlinks on serious sites is the quickest way to find reference articles on a subject--BozMo|talk
I'm not the person you need to convince about this. I'm not even voting. Angela. 19:17, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)

It's Ker from et:wiktionary here, asking for your help on language file update procedure. I'm not sure I know how it works. Your blog - very urgent[edit]

Hi Angela, I happened to read your blog where my name was mentioned. I wish to clarify my point to you. I never accepted Zen-master's conspiracy theory argument. I was only asking him proof by way of valid references. Please have a look at my edits here Talk:Google#NSA_.2B_Abu_Ghraib_censorship. Also, I've made detailed clarifications in Alterego's blog. I've nothing against him or Google. It appears that he mistakenly thought I'm in favour of the conspiracy theory argument. I've also clarified here. Please take some time to go through all my clarifications and revise your blog accordingly. -- Sundar 05:51, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Angela, [upon] my clarification, Alterego has updated his blog. I request you to note this correction and my clarifications in your blog too. -- Sundar 06:21, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC)

I never said you were supporting it. I just wrote that Brian had a conspiracy theory that you, and other people alleged to be working at Yahoo, did. Anyway, I've changed the post. I've realised the blogosphere is not a good place for edit war reports to be in. :) Angela. 06:24, Feb 7, 2005 (UTC)

May be, should we incorporate this self-discipline into the policy itself, just a thought. Though the talk pages are technically under GFDL, I feel such issues ought to be resolved within our talk pages itself. The current fiasco anyway was a result of a misunderstanding, which could've been resolved very easily had we sought/gave clarifications. In any case, it has left an indelible mark (unpleasant) in me. It was definitely a damage on my online and to some extent offline reputation. I don't put the blame any individual to be completely responsible for this though. -- Sundar 06:00, Feb 8, 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it would be possible to have a policy over what people write in their blogs. Angela. 13:41, Feb 8, 2005 (UTC)

Imparciality at Risk[edit]

Hello, It is the first time that I try to contact you. Since you are a member of the Board of Trustees of Wikimedia, I thought that you could help as judge in a Controversy that has been for a long time regarding the West Bank article. It is virtualy impossible to colaborate in it, since another user keeps deleting and preventing to stated something. It is not fair for us, that try to stated a NPOV that, another is imposing its opinion or ideas. Wikipedia must be a free and balance (not in the FOX NEWS Channel way) enciclopedia and it is not right that somebody try to impose its point of view. Thanks, my user name is Messhermit and you can comparate both changes in the page History

Have you tried going through the Wikipedia:dispute resolution process? Angela 16:21, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)

Deletionism at Wikibooks[edit]

I notice you seem to oppose deletionism, so... Lots of it is happening over at wikibooks. The way it works is typically:

  1. Somebody puts serious effort (blood, sweat, and tears) into a book/article/module/whatever.
  2. Somebody is offended, and lists the article for deletion.
  3. Votes are counted...
    • The author's vote is often discarded.
    • Simple majority is considered consensus.
    • Often, the offended person counts the votes.
    • Voting is always considered valid, even with very few votes.
  4. Deletion is performed
    • It is sudden, with no additional warning of how the votes were interpreted.
    • Often, the offended person does the deletion.

I could go for 85% concensus with 95% statistical certainty. (so 17 of 19 would not do, but 1700 of 1900 probably would -- I don't have the tables handy) A reasonable shortcut to avoid statistical tables would be to always give the article some extra votes (15 perhaps) against deletion.

Sometimes things are even worse. The admittedly-unusual Cookbook:Human apparently had actual content, but did not get a vote. I suspect that the content was greatly in need of fixing, but I am unable to determine this now. (IMHO, all users should have access to deleted articles.) I have fixed a great many modules in the cookbook, and would have been happy to find an appropriate way to fix this one. (if you can ignore the awful pun, a tasteful way)

Deletionism[edit]

One of mine has just been deleted. It was about the humourous verse Boil it down widely known to writers to emphasise the need for concisness in writing, and was part of a section I had added to one of our tutorials on how to write. I have taken the week-end out before doing anything about it in order to cool down. My beef is that 1) the original request for deletion was made by an anonymous editor. 2) Nobody contacted me on my talk page to raise a query. Was the correct procedure followed here?

One of the respondents did make some suggestions as to where it might be better placed, but before I could do anything about it it was deleted. The problem seems to be that it was held to be no part of an encyclopaedia. But it was not ever meant to be an encyclopaedic article: it was part of a tutorial. Is there any means of splitting out essential tutorial links from the encyclopaedia proper? Clearly I put it in the wrong place and am glad to be corrected, but the tone of the language of the others fazed me somethat. There was, I gather, a Be kind to Newbies page. Maybe we ought to have a Be kind to experienced editors who make a mistake page as well. PS Happy Valentines Day! Apwoolrich 08:31, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

If it's a tutorial, then it is likely Wikibooks would be a better place for it. Angela 18:12, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

UK Wikipedians event/Wikimania event[edit]

Hi Angela. Just thought I'd ask about these meetings: Is there a Wikimania event organising moot coming soon? If so is the Feb Uk wikipedian meet still on? - there's no activity on the page concerning TIME/PLACE etc.. Have i put people off? Sorry I am quite enthusiastic but worried that i have put a spanner in the works..Wikipedia:Meetup/London. >> max rspct 09:05, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I don't think you've put a spanner in the works. There just seems to be a lack of interest in anything happening at this time. Perhaps starting again and choosing a new date a bit further away would help? Angela 18:12, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

This page was on WP:RFPP for protection. But, prior to this, Help:Contents was requested for unprotection. Help:Contents was unprotected... so, I'm uncertain whether the request for the protection of Wikipedia:Community portal should be taken under consideration. The argument made for the unprotection of Help:Contents was that it didn't need to be protected indefinately. The same case could be made of the Main Page and the Community portal. What do you think is the best course of action? -- AllyUnion (talk) 01:19, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I don't see any reason for that to be permanently protected, but that's just my opinion. Maybe there ought be a vote on it. Angela 18:12, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

Help against vandalism[edit]

Please block this user: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Sollog_is_GNAA_GNAA_is_Sollog

he is moving pages over and over again.

i think that only administers should have the ability to move page. the ability to move pages gives to much power to the wrong people. --Haham hanuka 12:00, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

AllyUnion has done this already. If you see something like this again, just report it to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress. The vast majority of page moves are made by genuine users for good reasons, so I don't think removing this ability from non-admins would be necessary. Angela. 17:45, Feb 16, 2005 (UTC)
Can i become an administer to prevent vandalism in wiki? --Haham hanuka 10:32, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)
See WP:RFA for details, but since you only have 275 edits, it's really too soon to be applying. Angela. 10:55, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)
the truth is that i have did more the 500 edits most of the edits were in anonymous IP before i registered (and i started some articles). 500 or 1000 edits would be fain? --Haham hanuka 11:30, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Standards. If you only found about WP:VIP today, there's still a lot to learn before you can become an admin. The Administrators' reading list would be a good place to start doing that. You don't need to be an admin to revert vandalism. Angela. 12:08, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)
"This should be no big deal" has been widely attributed to Jimbo. Do you disagree? I guess you can, but... non-admins are horribly restricted. I have a request for adminship (on wikibooks, not here) because of this. Regular users can not move a page over a redirect if it has been blanked or otherwise changed. Regular users can not even view deleted modules, making such users unable to salvage the good from the bad and unable to investigate suspicious admin actions. Regular users can not even delete their own typos, like the module I initially created with a "Coobkook:" prefix. I see that somebody else had done "CookbookL". (the "L" being next to ":" on the keyboard) AlbertCahalan 19:31, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I disagree that adminship should be "no big deal" for as long as it is a big deal to have someone's admin rights removed. If it were possible to remove bad admins, we could take the "no big deal" approach, but until then, it's quite reasonable to expect certain standards from a user before they can be an admin. Note that Jimbo's statement was made over two years ago, when the community was far smaller than it is now, and when the abilities admins held were far less. They couldn't even ban logged in users back then. This was also a year before the Criteria for speedy deletion page existed, and when VfD was a single page that could be handled by a couple of admins. There were far fewer policies, so adminship was a much simpler matter back then. It was also a time when admins could check on other admin actions far more easily, since there were only 20 deletions a day, compared to over 800 in the last 24 hours! It may not have been a big deal in 2003, but I don't believe that statement holds true now. Angela 21:38, Feb 19, 2005 (UTC)

Help[edit]

How do you create a sandbox for your user page? Thanks Wikipedian231 13:26, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

You can add a wikilink by typing /sandbox in your user page and when it appears red, click on it and start editing. Have fun. -- Sundar 14:48, Feb 17, 2005 (UTC)

Template:Translate[edit]

I don't understand your description at Template talk:Translate of the issue you created Template:Translate to solve. Can you point me to a more extensive discussion? - dcljr 23:50, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Help with images[edit]

Is there any way to use an image as a background wallpaper for a user page? JarlaxleArtemis 06:59, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

You could try
<div style="position:absolute;right:50px;filter:alpha(opacity=20);-moz-opacity:0.2;"> http://meta.wikipedia.org/upload/wiki.png</div>
but it won't work with all browsers. Angela. 15:44, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)

More fun with JillandJack[edit]

A new user, Oirvine, has edited Quebec independence movement within the last 24 hours, reinstating verbatim almost every POV JillandJack edit that Curps and I edited out after the ban. User has exactly 13 other edits to their name besides this. Bearcat 17:03, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

It doesn't surprise me. I don't think I should be the one to block him again though. Angela. 19:17, Feb 20, 2005 (UTC)
I blocked the user, but received an e-mail from them today stating that they're not the same person and my blocking was in error. I realize that this still fits in with the user's prior behaviour, but I'm willing to consider the possibility that I may have been wrong...may I ask where I can post a request to have their IP reviewed against the other identities in question? Bearcat 23:56, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
You could ask the arbcom. They have most contact with the developers able to do this. Angela. 01:40, Feb 24, 2005 (UTC)

Wikimediafoundation[edit]

Hi Angela, can you make me a user at wikimediafoundation so I can correct typoes on Dutch pages? Thanks. Btw, I see you're busy with wikicities. I hadn't heard of that before. CE 18:55, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Bahasa Sunda[edit]

Dear Angela,

I wonder if you can change the label "Bahasa Sunda" which is automatically appears on interlanguage link to "Basa Sunda", because "bahasa" is Indonesian translation for "basa" in Sundanese. Thanx, kandar 10:35, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, but this is not something I can do. Asking on meta:Non-development tasks for developers might be one way to get it changed. Angela. 23:45, Feb 22, 2005 (UTC)
