Welcome![edit]

Hi Bschorr, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Iowa class battleship[edit]

Howdy and Welcome! I saw you corrections to my original entry in the "class history" section of the page, and it occured to me that there were probably multiple reasons for not reactivating the Iowa-class. I took to listing the ones I could think of, but I was wondering if you wouldn't mind reading over the list and seeing if I forgot something. TomStar81 00:51, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Welcome!!!

  • I had a hunch you were involved with or had served on battleships due to your knowlage on the class. Thanks for checking the work, i apreciate it greatly. I look forward to seeing your future contributions. TomStar81 00:51, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Hi there, its me again. After thinking the matter through I'm going to try and bring the Missouri page up to the standards required to make it a canidate for the "todays featured article" section on the main page. I already started by adding additional information and two new images, but the page still needs help- especially the dates and locations of her wartime activities, as these were the Missouri's finest hours. Anything you can do to improve it would be apreciated. TomStar81 09:15, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

USS Missouri[edit]

OK, she's up on the FAC section! Now for the hard part: Since you nominated the article (or more aproprietly, the nomination is in your name) its up to you to make a good faith effort to adress the objections (if any) raised on the nominations page. To check up on the progress of the article and read more on the FAC process, you can go to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. If you need help adressing objections, drop me a line. With luck, we can sail the Missouri into the Featured Article section without to much trouble :-) TomStar81 02:10, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • USS Missouri is now a featured article. We did it! TomStar81 19:24, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look at the Talk Page for USS Missouri - they are trying to get Cher and her video back into the article. Thanks. HammerFilmFan (talk) 03:25, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Iowa-class battleship[edit]

I assume that by now you have seen the Featured Article Removal tag of the Iowa-class battleship talk page. I refuse to let this article lose its featured article status, but I need your help to confirm things like engineering and electrical details. So far its 5-2 in favor of maintaining the article as featured, but thats liable to change. Anything you can do to help will be apreciated. TomStar81 02:46, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unverified Statement[edit]

Howdy, B, long time no see. I gotta question for you: An annon recently added a line about missouri being eligable for recomissioning because she is still owned by the name. I do not believe this to be the case, but I am not entirely sure. Any way that you caould find out? TomStar81 02:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delay - I didn't see this message until just now. Is she eligible for recommissioning? Well...technically the Navy could take her back and recommission her I suppose. But she's been stricken from the register so recommissioning her at this point would be somewhat unprecedented I think. ---B- 21:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Iowa-class armor[edit]

There's an unresolved debate on the Iowa-class page about armor. While it's agreed that the armor was not designed to withstand fire from the Iowa's own 16in/50cal guns, some people believe it was designed for the only slightly less powerful 16in/45cal guns, whereas others believe it was designed for 14in guns. The article contradicts itself because of this confusion, and everybody else seems to have given up on resolving this. Do you think you could confirm this one way or another?

Thanks! JDS2005 03:30, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be on board tomorrow, I'll ask. We were always told it was designed to withstand 16" guns though. Also I'll see if Dick Landgraff can shed any light. ---B- 04:57, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anything? JDS2005 04:06, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't had a chance to parse all the info but Landgraff says it will definitely withstand 16" guns (caliber uncertain at the moment) and Admiral Snyder has been quoted as saying that at ranges over 25,000 yards it should withstand 18" guns. When I have some time I'll try to sift through it - what Dick sent is VERY technical. ---B- 07:55, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Operation: Trailblazer[edit]

After a straw poll on the matter I have initiated the FT nom for the Iowa-class battleships. Since your name appears on the list of major contributors I am leaving this message here to inform you of the nom's opening and to offer you a chance to chip on the matter.
