Was this the first time that the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland has competed? The reason that I ask is because Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and Nyasaland (now Malawi) formed this Federation in 1953. However, it seems that in the two previous British Empire and Commonwealth Games (as they were known then) that the members competed under their former names? Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm not sure whether the team competed together or not, however, in looking at the official site - The Commonwealth Games Federation has re-allocated the medals to whichever successor nation is appropriate. In fact, on the official site they just call Rhodesia/Southern Rhodesia Zimbabwe the whole way through. jkm 09:12, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
