Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/United States Navy

There has been some discussion of which of the various categories relating to U.S. ships should be kept. There does not really seem to be much of a consensus, but at the moment the de facto choice is Category:United States Navy ships, since that is the only one populated.
Most recently, Category:US naval ships and Category:U.S. Navy ships were listed for deletion on November 8. As of today, November 23, no one has protested their deletion. However, because of past discussions and because it has often been used in the past, I have made them both into "soft redirects" instead of deleting them. That way, if there needs to be further discussion, this is still here. I'm not claiming that this is what ought ultimately to be done (although I personally do prefer Category:United States Navy ships). -[[User:Aranel|Aranel ("Sarah")]] 22:36, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

- I went ahead and deleted the first three. No one has commented on the last two and they've been on CfD for a week, so if it were just this I would go ahead and delete them (since they are empty and redundant and I don't think there is any cause to move all of those articles to one of the other categories—the discussion elsewhere has been that "U.S. Navy" is more workable for the child categories, which tend to have long names, but is it worth changing this, the parent category?), but see also #Category:US naval ships. - There's also Category:U.S. Navy ships. I've been trying to figure this out (without much success) at Category talk:United States Navy ships. I think "United States Navy ships" is to be preferred. [[User:Aranel|Aranel ("Sarah")]] 00:14, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)
