I vote this be deleted. -- Zoe

How come? -- Cyde

It isn't encyclopedic. -- Zoe

Since this is a board encyclopedia that covers popular culture topics, I thought that one about ‘JeffK’, who is somewhat of a popular icon, would be fine. Do you object to the way the article was written or do you object to the article its’ self? User:AaronNorris

It's at least as encyclopedic as Penny Arcade, Kuro5hin, and other such "internet culture" things. I might support deleting this article and wrapping it up into one Something Awful article that discusses Jeff K as one part of the site. -- Delirium

Removed part about "created during campaign to drive users from his site"; the JeffK character significantly predates that campaign. -- Delirium

JEFFK's even been parodied - (dump teh xul) - so he's certainly recognisable Kirun

Should link to B1FF[edit]

The jeffk entry really needs a "see also" link to http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/B1FF

It looks like someone has done this. Saucepan

Did Jeff K originate the term asshat?[edit]

Did Jeff K really originate the term "asshat"? I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if he did, since somethingawful.com has turned out to be the source of more than a few bits of Internet drollery, but I'm sure I remember seeing "asshat" in use before Jeff K. appeared on the scene. The earliest uses I've been able to find are in Usenet here and here, but I'm curious if it's older still.

(As for "clownboat", I had never heard of it at all. But I like it.) Saucepan 05:11, 13 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

I'm almost certain he didn't, I'm also skeptical at the though he "popularized" it, and am really unsure why it's even in there. Also I am however 100% positive he didn't start the misspelling of "teh", as the article claims JeffK was created mid May 1999, and I know its been on the internet since LONG before then, in fact I had a close friend who used the term often on his website, long before then. That really should be removed... -MoldRat 13:45, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I removed mention of asshat and teh, pending confirmation from a notable source. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 12:24, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was called a "clownboat" on IRC at least a year before Jeff K. was supposedly created. I was trading insults with another chatter when he began calling me nonsense phrases consisting of two seemingly random words put together. I decided to mock him by changing my nick to each ridiculous insult that was thrown at me, and thus gained the handle "Clownboat" (his first insult, which was followed by the less-attractive "fagmelon"), which I've used ever since that fateful day. However, the term was undoubtedly in use some time before that incident. This occurred sometime in 1997 or 1998, but since I cannot speficy an exact date or provide written evidence, I'll leave the article as-is. If further information surfaces confirming the existence of the term before Jeff K. used it, it should be removed from the article for brevity.

Error re:use of numbers in sentences[edit]

The article says that the Jeff K articles never substitute numbers for letters, and that 'Jeff' is merely an awful speller, but that contention is in conflict with the slang cited in the previous sentence, 'l33t,' which clearly has a pair of 3s subbed in for the slightly-more-correct Es. Which is true?

Neither. It is all wrong and everyone loses. --NoPetrol 07:12, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

He only does it when he writes "l33t", "hax0r" or "hax0ring".

The name "Jeff K."[edit]

Who is, really, the teenager who appears as Jeff K. in the photos at Somethingawful? Richard Kyanka's brother/cousin? One named Jeff? That would make Jeff K. "Jeff Kyanka"! --Devil Master 09:27, 03 Jul 2005 (MET)

"Jeff Kyanka"[edit]

Jeff K.'s last name isn't Kyanka. It's something ridiculous like Karpopandopolis. It was mentioned in a letter he got from the department of justice.

--Cheburashka 13:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Source?[edit]

The article refers to Kyanka, but has no mention of Something Awful itself or where Jeff K originated, and just jumps directly into describing him. A sentence at the beginning along the lines of 'Jeff K is a fictional character and part of a Something Awful main page feature' or something but I'm not sure on that and don't know how to word it.

Awful Fantasy[edit]

Is Jeff K.'s appearance as a "hidden" character in the fan-produced Awful Fantasy game (a parody of Something Awful, related personalities, and Internet sub-cultures using Final Fantasy VI as a vehicle, wherein Jeff K. took the place of Umaro) worthy of mention in the article?--Clownboat 07:08, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

I think this article should be redirected to Something Awful seeing as it doesn't really have any independent sources. --Wafulz 23:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article does cite independent sources, though, so I'm not sure what you mean by that. --Delirium 09:29, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. It has a message board post, and a page by Maddox making fun of it. This could easily be summed up in one or two sentences in the SA article. --Wafulz 16:50, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose you overlooked the entry in the Jargon File. --Delirium 22:30, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I missed that. I still think this could be summarized much more succintly in the main article on SA. --Wafulz 23:11, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

Jeff K. is too big to be merged. It makes sense to keep him at his own article. --Liface 18:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of this article is just fluff on one character- half of it sounds like fanpage material. It could be summed up much more succinctly in one well-sourced and well-written paragraph in the SA article. --Wafulz 18:46, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • merge per Wafulz Tocharianne 20:29, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge per Wafulz. --- RockMFR 21:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Jeff K. deserves to be kept, because of the prominent amount of imitators. It has become second nature to forum goers everywhere to lampoon someone using Jeff K.-esque ranting and l33tspeak. Also, there seem to be no qualms about keeping the far shorter article on the similar character B1FF. So are we to remove Jeff K.'s article simply because that character is part of something bigger? == ThatOneGuy 00:28, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
    • People who use AOL-speak/leet-speak have always and will always be mocked on internet forums regardless of the existence of Jeff K; Jeff K's "imitators" are not necessarily imitating him. Also, the existence of one unexamined article does not justify the existence of another, especially since 90% of the B1FF article is an example of a signature. --Wafulz 17:36, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Week Merge - Per Wafulz, however wouldn't that require additional paragraphs for the other fictional characters? Mrmoocow 08:27, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • If other characters have external sources, then yes, but I really can't think of any that do.--Wafulz 17:36, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge - This is actually one of the few things on the SA Wiki page that could be sourced. The current article is mostly WP:OR. I think this merge debates highlights failures in the SomethingAwful page. The first paragraph of this article is enough to be merged. Otherwise I don't see how it passes WP:WEB without 2 or more non-trivial publications based solely on the work. --Quirex 20:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff K is no longer[edit]

Since the merge, the Jeff K section has been removed entirely from the Something Awful article, so as far as I can tell, there is no longer any material relating to Jeff K on WP. I'd expect at least a paragraph on some sort of list of something awful characters page or something.

Seems like a sneaky way to take content off WP, after a failed deletion vote: get it merged with another article, then edit it out entirely. 99.4.73.65 (talk) 21:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main articles don't have to contain content from redirects.-Wafulz (talk) 14:54, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree; they ought to, or else the redirect is misleading. If someone looks up A and gets redirected to B, they should be able to, if they read the article at B, find out why A relates to it and therefore why they got redirected there. --Delirium (talk) 16:18, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then nominate it for deletion if you want.-Wafulz (talk) 17:32, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
