Untitled[edit]

Please keep this page under "transport" and don't change back to the longer American word "transportation", jguk 09:03, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Why would we use "transportation"? It's incorrect for the case of Ireland. The Republic has a Department of Transport and Minister for Transport for a reason. 10:30, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ferry connections?[edit]

Could someone add something about the ferries that go to Ireland please?--Hhielscher 19:01, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

17 years later and I finally did it loool. I only had solid data to hand on ones from Northern Ireland; doubtless other editors can add further entries... pyrococcal (talk) 11:49, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bridge/tunnel[edit]

"Ireland is one of the last large inhabited islands in the world without a tunnel or bridge connection"

I find this incredibly hard to believe — bridges/tunnels are the exception, not the norm, and the only ones I can think of are in the UK/Japan/possibly America. Reference point: List of islands by area. I'll remove the above quote if it isn't backed up (sources!) soon. Njál 02:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - it does sound unbelievable. I suggest remove it sooner rather than later. Off the top of my head, I can think of Madagascar, Iceland and Tasmania - I'm pretty sure (but haven't checked) that none of these have bridges/tunnels connecting them. --A bit iffy 03:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Removed — but it doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence in the rest of the article. Njál 02:03, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
