Welcome![edit]

Hi Gaurav1146, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!

Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :

  • RC Patrol - Keeping a lookout for vandalism.
  • Cleanup - Help make unreadable articles readable.
  • Requests - Wanted on WP, but hasn't been created.
  • Merge - Combining duplicate articles into one.
  • Wikiprojects - So many to join, so many to choose from...Take your pick!

Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

Re : Your Queries[edit]

Hi, Guarav:

I can find this page, but what must I do to write here? Or is this the right way?

Antonio

1a) Yes, the articles are case-sensitive, with the exception that the first letter of any article is converted to upper case. For example, 'singapore' and 'Singapore' is recongized as the same, whereas 'Anti-Sikh Riots' and 'Anti-Sikh riots' are not.

1b) To create a redirect, type in #REDIRECT [[article name to be redirected to]] then click on Save page.

2) There are two kinds of search engines you can use. When Wikipedia is experiencing not-so-high traffic levels, the Wiki search engine is used and I must admit it doesn't produce very good results. During high traffic, Google/Yahoo search is substituted. If you are just like me who prefers the good old Google within Wikipedia, use this URL :

http://www.google.com/search?domains=en.wikipedia.org&num=50&ie=iso-8859-1&oe=iso-8859-1&q=Wikipedia&btnG=Google+Search&sitesearch=en.wikipedia.org

I hope I have answered your questions. Happy editing! :)

Hello Gaurav1146,

Recently I created a new subpage of wikipedia:News sources. If you take a look at the talk page you will see the argument against a speedy delete. Could you please give your reasons for listing this page on speedy delete. Barnaby dawson 12:07, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The moment when I visited the page it had just one external link and no write up. I thought a page with just one External link and no introduction was not a suitable article. So I marked it for deletion. And probably I was not wrong as same was felt by the administrators. Gaurav1146 12:27, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

The point is that it isn't by itself a page. It's a subpage. It's not accessible except through wikipedia:News sources. It is also clear that it can be made into a useful subpage. As such it is not reasonable to list it for deletion especially speedy deletion. Please can you remove the tag for deletion (I can't as I created the page).

Perhaps you came across this page out of the context of wikipedia:News sources. If so could you tell me how. I do not want other subpages still in their infancy to be deleted in error.

In general a subpage with this little text would not be useful. However, the purpose of the news sources collection is to provide NPOV by categorizing news sources a heirarchical structure. As such there must will be subpages with little on them. Barnaby dawson 12:42, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I got your point and I have removed the tag. I came to this page through RC Patrol. Sorry for the inconvenience. Gaurav1146 12:57, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. I will consider putting explanatory text at the top of the subpages of News sources to explain why they exist and to prevent this from happening again. Barnaby dawson 13:16, 19 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Re : Query[edit]

Hi Gaurav1146,

Regarding your Photoelasticity article, first of all try wikifying it. Requests for expansion is one of the many ways, in which you have already done so. Another way is to categorize the article as mechanics-related. You can also look around and view the page history of some other similiarly-related articles and see who are the major mechanics contributors which you can seek help for.

Good luck with your latest article! :)

Votes for deletion[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Recently, you suggested that Department of Microbiology,University of Dhaka,Bangladesh should be deleted, but you didn't get it all the way to the page where we could vote on it. I've finished the nomination for you, so you can go here and add your vote and your original thoughts on the article. If you have any questions, please let me know on my talk page. Joyous 00:22, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

I'm on my way to work, so here's a short version, and I'll add details later. For now, go here to add your vote to the current discussion. Just click the small "edit" tab to add your comments and vote. For general (and some say, confusing) instructions on how to add articles to the list for deletion, check out the bottom of the Votes for deletion page. It's really not as hard as the instructions would indicate, and I'll be glad to clarify them when I get home this afternoon. Joyous 12:07, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Surrealist Group of Pakistan[edit]

Gaurav1146, the article on the Surrealist Group of Pakistan was already deleted upon a consensus vote. There is no evidence to prove that they ever really existed. Please do not keep adding them back to the Surrealism article, unless you can find the names of all the surrealists in that group, their artworks, where they exhibited, and all the names of their publications, and proving that they are notable. The consensus from the Wikipedia community on the Surrealist Group of Pakistan was that they were a hoax, unless you have evidence to prove that they were real, and you can provide answers to the questions that I asked you above, then we can work on an article for them and mention them back in the Surrealism article as well. In the meantime, they are a hoax.Classicjupiter2 16:05, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Just to be clear, there was certainly no wikipedia consensus that the group is a "hoax". There was a 6 to 2 vote to delete the article, which would more accurately be called a 75% majority than a consensus, but it appeared to satisfy the counting admin enough to delete the article. I have no idea how "real" the group is, or if the author of the statement attributed to them is really from Pakistan. But I do know that Classicjupiter2's statement above is intentionally inaccurate and misleading. ~leifHELO 03:07, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)

Naming convention[edit]

Hey Gaurav,

According to Wikipedia:Naming conventions, second and consecutive words in titles should always be in lowercase unless they are proper nouns. Also, I'd recommend you move Anti-Sikh Riots into something more specific (1984 Anti-Sikh riots?) or, even better, integrate it into the page on Indira Gandhi.

btw, like your articles: very well written and clear!

cheers, Gaurav 14:44, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re: Photoelasticity[edit]

The change that I made was to correct misspelling of wavelength. I don't know anything about the subject, however, one suggestion that I can make is to change "History of Photoelasticty" and "Principle of Photoelasticity" to simply "History" and "Principle(s)". --Berkut 22:15, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Spell Checker[edit]

Though I am not Jimbo Wales, I can give you a suggestion. Put whatever you write in a program like Microsoft Word, run spell check, and paste it into the Edit page. Zscout370 16:23, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Speedy deletions[edit]

before you mark an article for speedy deletion, it's really important to check the History (see, for example, Oona King). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:39, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re : Deleting Images[edit]

Hi Gaurav again, :)

If you want to delete an image, put it up for Images for Deletion. If you just need to replace an image, you can just overwrite an existing one by uploading the image with the same filename, and then contact me to delete the older versions. If both are neither what you wanted to do, let me know which images you're having problems with and I'll see what I can do. ;)

blocked[edit]

Hi Gaurav,

I just blocked him. I wanted to make sure he had time to read the "last warning" message. Best wishes, and happy editing! Antandrus 20:30, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello Gaurav,

I recently ran into the article Zeenat Aman of which you added most of the text on February 7, 2005. Within the text, there were many HTML line breaks (<BR>) and spaces (&nbsp). This makes me believe that either you copied the text from the Web or that you were trying to format the output of the article. If you're not aware, I just wanted to mention the following points:

  • Any text copied directly from the Web must be in the public domain.
  • Formatting control codes like <BR> and &nbsp should be used sparingly, and aren't necessary when needing to indent or start a new paragraph (like in the article mentioned).

Please review your other articles to make sure the same issue isn't there.

Thanks. =)

Image deletion warning The image Image:Adrienbrody.jpg has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it will be deleted. If you have any information on the source or licensing of this image, please go there to provide the necessary information.

Images for deletion[edit]

Thanks. They have been deleted. I left Image:Amisha.jpg as it is clearly a magazine cover, and thus has a source and has been tagged as such. Cheers. Burgundavia (✈ take a flight?) 07:14, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

I see from the page history for Cut Ending to Knights of the Old Republic II that you once edited it. I thought you would like to know that there is a VfD on that page now at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Cut_Ending_to_Knights_of_the_Old_Republic_II. Please stop in there and comment on this vote! --maru 15:55, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Gaurav1146. Thank you for submitting an entry to the pre-round and/or participating in round one of WP:MIND. I sincerly hope you enjoyed it. Round Two, which I have made a bit more difficult than round one, will open at approximately 2 PM EST, Sunday, July 24. In addition, the voting for pre-round has also been extended until the end of round two. I hope to see you at Round Two, so prepare for some WikIFun!!! Re : Celebrity Images[edit]

Hi Gaurav,

To delete any image(s), list them at Wikipedia:Image For Deletion. As far as I can recall, "scantily clad" images isn't a criteria for deletion. See What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia is not censored for the protection of minors for details.

- Best regards, Mailer Diablo 16:58, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gaurav,
You didn't tell me which are the alleged pages yet! =P Anyway, point taken, although personally a few (rather than one, but not too many on the other hand) would be good for variety purposes.
If these images really annoy you, Be bold! and list them on Images for Deletion with your reasons, they should be processed in one week if there are no objections.
Best regards, - Mailer Diablo 08:44, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to interfere in your conversation, but if you find a scantily clad image, insert {{lc}}. Basically, it just keeps track of such images and can, in the future, depending on WP's policy, be dealt in whatever way. pamri 07:28, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Well, {{lc}} used to categorise the articles under Category:Images of people with little clothing but the category was deleted. Mainly, the template's function is to help track such images. pamri 11:36, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

flag of India[edit]

Raul refers not like to select a featured article on the same day that there is an anniversary on the related topic. He feels that the 'Independence of India' event and the 'flag of india' are too close a subject to be put on the main page. He had earlier put it on the 13th, but I req him to at least advance it for a day. India's flag was hoisted on the midnight of Aug 14, so at least it has some connection. Also, for about 5 and a half hours, the flag of India will be featured on 15 aug with respect to IST. (New article is selected 5:30 am IST) =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:46, August 12, 2005 (UTC)

    Hi Gaurav1146,

Filenames are CaSe-SeNsItIvE. Your image was uploaded as Image:DonnaReed.JPG, while the existing one is Image:DonnaReed.jpg. (i.e. JPG and jpg are different)

I would say make the resolution of the uploaded image smaller (300px is reaonsable), to strengthen your claim for fair use. And if possible, provide the source of the film where you got it from.

If you have any further questions, let me know on my talkpage! :)

    Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Gaurav1146, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

    Cheers, Sango123 (talk) 21:07, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Another Esperanzial note...[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

    Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

    Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1[edit]

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
    Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
    1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
    2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
    3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
    4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
    5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
    6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
    7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
    8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.

    Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
    Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
    1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
    2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
    3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
    A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

    Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3[edit]

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
    Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
    1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
    2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
    3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
    4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
    5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Thanks for uploading Image:Christinaapplegate.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Abu Badali 22:54, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi Abu,
I had added the image which was a magazine cover, so qualified under fair use(as per fair use guidelines at that time). The article's edit history shows that you have removed the image. If you feel that the image does not qualify under fair use you may either mark it for deletion or request an admin to delete it.Gaurav1146 03:45, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello, Gaurav.
Acording to the text on {{Magazinecover}}, magazine covers can only be used "to illustrate the publication of the issue of the magazine in question" and "it is not acceptable to use images with this tag in the article of the person or persons depicted on the cover...". That is, it's fair use to use the image Image:Christinaapplegate.jpg to ilustrate the Cosmopolitan (magazine) article ("the issue of the magazine in question"), but not to illustrate Christina Applegate ("the person or persons depicted on the cover").
One image is not fair use per se. The use of an image is what may or not be fair. Thanks, and happy editing! --Abu Badali 06:42, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    A short Esperanzial update[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Re: Image deletion[edit]

You had placed a lot of messages related to deletion of images on my talk page. I had replied earlier that as per the guidelines at the time when I uploaded these image magazine covers came under fair use. But now those guidelines have been slightly modified and magazine covers come only under fair use if they are used in an article related to the magazine.

But I have some questions about two screenshots that I had uploaded which are Image:DonnaReed.JPG and Image:JamesDonald.JPG. I believe that screenshots do come under fair use. Please let me know why you have marked them for deletion. Gaurav1146 10:23, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Gaurav1146. I understand that image deletion warnings may be very bothersome. But, as far as I understand, they are a necessary step of the image deletion bureocracy. Hadn't I put the messages, OrphanBot would have done that. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
About screenshots, as described in bold letters on the {{film-screenshot}} template, they should only be used for identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents. Using a movie screeshot to illustrate an article about the person depicted on the image, with the movie itself being just mentioned on the article, is not considered fair use under the Wikipedia guidelines.
Let me know if I may still be of any help. Best Regards, --Abu Badali 14:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    August Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

    Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
    What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
    1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
    2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
    3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
    4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
    5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
    6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

    September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

    Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
    What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
    1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
    2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
    3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
    4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
    5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Hi again. I created some new stub entries, which I'll flesh out later. Okay, and I don't add "creation" to indicate that it's a new entry, nor do I add my name, correct? I notice someone comes after me, removes that info, and adds "stubb" -- should I be doing that? Antonio Giusti 23:10, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Antonio Giusti[reply]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

    NYC Meetup[edit]

You would be very welcome to join us at the meetup. We would like to accommodate both local people and non-local people, and have scheduled accordingly. The "official" meeting from 2:30 to 5 at Columbia University will focus mostly on local issues (and you're welcome to join us there too); but the dinner and events afterward will be of a general nature. Also, the special behind-the-scenes tour of the American Museum of Natural History earlier that morning (it hasn't been scheduled exactly yet) will also be of a general nature. By the way, last time we were joined by User:Dwaipayanc, who had also attended a meetup in India.--Pharos (talk) 05:18, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Vote for a post-meetup restaurant[edit]

I'm charged with making the reservations for us, so let's make it official. We'll do this via voting and everyone including anonymous voters, sockpuppets, and canvassed supporters is enfranchised. Voting irregularities and election fraud are encouraged as that would be really amusing in this instance. Please vote for whichever restaurant you would like to eat at given the information provided above and your own personal prejudices at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC#Let's make it official. The prevailing restaurant will be called first for the reservation. If a reservation cannot be obtained at the winning restaurant, the runner-up restaurant will be called thus making this entire process pointless. Voting ends 24 hours after this timestamp (because I said so). ScienceApologist (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Orphaned non-free media (Image:KellyBrook.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KellyBrook.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:38, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 974 article backlog. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Redirecting page:A Secular_Agenda[edit]

A page you created, A Secular_Agenda, does not seem to have enough reliable third party sources to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia in itself. It has been redirected to Arun Shourie which is related to the subject of the article.WBGconverse 12:52, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
