Untitled[edit]

The last name of Anna Faris sounds kind of Middle Eastern. Is she of Syrian or Lebanese decent? If anybody knows the ancestry of Anna Faris, please post.

She is not Middle Eastern. I asked her parents about it a year ago and thats what they told me. (Todd C. -- Webmaster of The Ultimate Anna Faris Experience)

She's a natrual blonde, so the odds of her being middle eastern are pretty slim. Faris is a German name. Also, whoever posted that picture of her should be shot. It's horrible. Somebody upload a better one! Shawn Crapo (talk) 19:48, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course there are middle eastern blondes, my daughter is one of them! Fivish, London. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.30.28.50 (talk) 22:21, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have found a reference to Faris on Greek Wikipedia as being of Greek origin. He is a hero of Greek Mythology, founder of the ancient city of "Forrai" (phi, alpha, rho, rho, alpha, iota), son of Hermes and Danaidas, daughter of Philodameias, their daughter was Telegone. He is also said to have founded the city of Farai in Messenia. Pausaneus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.222.114.161 (talk) 08:09, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think her cameo in Malcolm in the Middle should be noted. If others are not familiar, it is the one where Hal is remembering waht he was doing when he met the different bosses he had. Anna played one of the boss' children, who Hal accidently hurt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.81.117.92 (talk) 22:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Curious; didn't she have plastic surgery sometime before House Bunny? She looked rather different starting around that time (facial.)

Why, oh why, did she quit Mom, just as it was one of the most popular shows on TV? And virtually vanish from sight (I heard she invented a card game)? For an essential actor to doom a successful show like that is usually career suicide. Sussmanbern (talk) 17:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

Four of the bio items in the article are sourced from her IMDb biography. This is not considered a reliable source and need to have more reliable sourcing found. Wildhartlivie (talk) 01:40, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Role in Brokeback Mountain.[edit]

'Her Role in Brokeback Mountain brought her to the attention of a wider audience'. The comment seems unreasonable as Ms Feris could not have appeared in the film for more than 3 minutes. In fact, such a talented actress appearing for so short a time was noteworthy.Johnwrd (talk) 05:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree. I agree she's talented, but prior to Brokeback she was noted primarily for one character in the Scary Movie series. The Brokeback role, though not major, presented her as a more versatile actress. Cresix (talk) 22:56, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Onna[edit]

Her first name is unexpectedly pronounced Awnna, with a long initial vowel. Could someone find a decent citation for that, and provide a note? Varlaam (talk) 23:17, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uh ... what's your source for that tidbit? Cresix (talk) 23:28, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I always thought it was Anna, the normal way. Haven't you ever heard DVD commentary tracks where they mention her? For these directors, actors, whatever, it's always Onna. It's consistent. I might even have heard one once where someone says explicitly, "She pronounces it Onna."
It appears to be legitimate, therefore she should have mentioned it in a magazine interview at some point, until they got bored of asking.
Varlaam (talk) 01:56, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall which DVDs; I was not expecting to find that detail undocumented. Varlaam (talk) 01:59, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In that case I think we can safely dismiss your statement that it is pronounced "Awnna" and not go on a search for confirmation. The first syllable in her name either rhymes with "can" (American) or with "con" (both of which are typical pronunciations; nothing unexpected about it at all). The first syllable does not rhyme with "lawn" (as you suggested with "Awnna"). Even your own examples are inconsistent. "Onna" is not pronounced the same as "Awnna". Lots of people named Anna say it as "Onna", but never "Awnna". People mispronounce and mishear things quite easily. I don't know whether the person on the DVD mispronounced, or whether you misheard, but her name is not said "Awnna". Cresix (talk) 02:12, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In Canadian English, Onna, Awnna, and Ahnna are all pronounced the same way. The first syllable does rhyme with "lawn". "Saw", "on". As in Lana Turner.
So don't give me a lot of back talk.
Odds are I'm old enough to be your father, if not your grandfather, so do your homework, if you purport to be running this page.
In normal American or Canadian English, Anna is pronounced like "banana" or "bandanna", not like UK-style Bahnahnahrahmah. That is why someone bothered to point out the freakish (mis)pronunciation of her name on the bloody DVD commentary track.
Mind your manners, kiddo. Varlaam (talk) 02:52, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
She's an American actress, not a Russian opera singer or some Czech model.
Anna is never pronounced Onna/Awnna/Ahnna any more than we say Onne/Awnne/Ahnne of bloody Green Gables.
Varlaam (talk) 03:04, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just like I thought, 5K edits, all in enwiki. I am so impressed.

If you're old enough to be my father, you're probably teetering on dementia, which would neatly explain why you didn't hear the name as it was pronounced. How many decibels of hearing loss do you have exactly? No one -- and I mean no one -- in Canada or the United States (and I've lived all over both) pronounces the first syllable of Anna to rhyme with "lawn", unless they're intoxicated, or you. And if it's Onna or Anna, that's anything but a freakish pronunciation. I've known dozens of Annas who go by each. Can't say I've ever met an Awnna though. And I've never heard of Lawna Turner. I've never fished in a pawnd, but I do know where you can make a bit of cash if you have something that can be pawned. I've never seen anyone with blawnd hair either. I know a couple of guys named Don, but all of the Dawns I know are women. Oh, and I don't "purport" to be running this page, I just "purport" to be able to hear and speak Canadian and American English the way 99.9% of the rest of Canadians and Americans do. Mind your manners, grampa.
Just like I thought; many, many Ks of useless, confusing edits. Mind your manners, gramps. Cresix (talk) 03:47, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's pronounced in the Greek/Italian way, Ahnna. It was shortened by the ancient Greeks from Hannah (Hebrew - was the mother of the Virgin Mary) to Anna. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.222.114.161 (talk) 08:13, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cresix, you are still an imbecile.
The article as of today has the pronunciation of her name listed exactly the way I requested back in 2010, before I had to put up with all of that bullshit backtalk from you.
Mind your manners, punk. Varlaam (talk) 23:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Her name is DEFINITELY pronounced Ah-Nuh, where the first part does not rhyme with "can" but with "arm" instead... I have seen several TV interviews where she has confirmed this herself. Here is a link to an interview where she confirms here name's correct pronunciation of Ah-Nuh, but more importantly it shows that she does not correct people who pronounce it wrong... http://www.sponkit.com/anna-faris-does-playboy-september-2008-dishes-on-demi-moore-daughter-rumer-willis/ (look down to the third question and answer) M R G WIKI999 (talk) 17:48, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional, press-releasey prose[edit]

Much of this article was written as a shamelessly promotional fan site, I strongly suspect by her publicist. I made the prose more neutral encyclopedic tone, and removed cherry-picked blurbs that read like straight out of a press release; if for some specific reason we were to include review excerpts, we need to provide negative ones as well for WP:BALANCE. Also, the prose contained overdetail about the box office and reviews of every single movie mentioned, which properly belongs in the particular films' own articles. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:44, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alvin and The Chipmunks[edit]

Why aren't the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies listed in filmography? Considering she did three of them.

Marcus Level[edit]

Someone keeps adding a fake show called "Marcus Level" in her filmography, which has already had a deleted article on wikipedia and isn't listed on IMDB. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.108.249.177 (talk) 21:44, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year in short description[edit]

For an article of a biography of a living person, the year of birth is supposed to be included in the short description. When writing a short description, the template shows an example of what could be included e.g

American actor and singer (born 1953)

When the living person isn’t alive anymore, the year changes to this:

American actor and signer (1953–(year of death)

So why is my edit get reversed? It’s necessary on almost all articles with a biographical living person 86.173.220.121 (talk) 12:23, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bennett or Barrett?[edit]

Why do some publications write the last name of Faris husband as Bennett? In People Magazine, (June 1, 2021), both spellings were included? Why is that? Jaiquiero (talk) 22:18, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
