Need Help[edit]

The article vanavsos is up for deletion. Can you please help in this regard. Second, I am having difficulty with Wikinfo:Classical definition of republic and am having trouble on Talk:Republic because they won't allow an external link. It was deleted off of Wikipedia, and I believe it needs to come back on. A serious mistake in deleting this article. Thanks for your time.WHEELER 18:30, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Poll[edit]

I hope that this message is of interest to you, if not please accept my apologies. There is a poll in the talk page of the 'Macedonian Slavs' article here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Macedonian_Slavs#The_poll

Some people are lobbying for changing the article's name to Macedonians without any qualifier. As it seems, a number of these people come from the Macedonian/Macedonian Slav wikipedia project. It seemed only fair to attract the attention of people possibly from the other side of the story. Your contributions to the discussion and the poll are welcomed.

Hello, Leonariso , I see that you are interested in the Ancient Greek languge. Maybe you could help us out here. We have a big discussion on the phonology of Ancient Greek, in particular the Attic dialect spoken by Plato, Aristotle etc. You can join the discussion if you wish at Talk:Ancient Greek phonology. However, the main reason that I am approaching you is to ask you if you could help us out in citing some sources. Because many of us live outside Greece and Cyprus, we cannot get hold of the following books:

and any other Greek sources on the phonology of the Attic dialect. Also: do you still have your high school text book? Does it say anything about the pronounciation of beta, gamma, and delta in classical times?

What we are looking for is something like this: (excerpt Talk:Ancient Greek phonology)

In the Συνοπτική ιστορία της ελληνικής γλώσσας (Summary History of the Greek Language, Αθήνα 1986), Γεώργιος Μπαπμινιώτης (George Babiniotis) describes the transition from ancient to Koine Greek as involving structural transformations at all linguistic levels (p 114), and goes into some detail on the phonological changes, starting with the vowels (p 115), diphthongs (p 116), and then consonants (p 120). There is an 8-page discussion of the transition from ancient to Koine sounds. There is a table of the ancient sounds and spellings (p <π> / b <β> / pH <φ> etc.) and the late Alexandrian sounds and spellings (p <π> / b <μβ/μπ> / v <β> / f <φ> etc.) with some detail about the different times and dialects when these changes happened (not all simultaneously).

I assume that you have access to a Greek university library. We would particulary be interested in scholarly articles in this subject written by Greek linguists. Andreas 22:03, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedians in Greece[edit]

Hi, I understand that you are either Greek Wikipedian or a Wikipedian living in/with an interest in Greece.

The category page Wikipedians/Greece has been replaced with Category:Wikipedians in Greece but your name still appears on the old list. You might considering moving it. You might also consider adding adding Template:Greekwiki to your user page.

A Wikipedia:Greek Wikipedians' notice board has been in existence for some time but is terribly underutilised. It would certainly benefit from your involvement.--Damac 12:21, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, mate, I see that you are interested in Eurovision. Would you like to be involved in connecting with more eurovision wikipedians to do up the eurovision pages in a more coherent manner? I have come across the Eurovision wikiproject page, which seems to have been dormant for over two years. It may be an idea to have a look there and see how we could improve the eurovision coverage. I have done up the Congratulations (Eurovision) page so far and put notes about it on the pages of those who performed there. Greek and Cypriot media coverage[edit]

Hello Leonariso,

I am writing a thesis on Croatia's candidacy to join the EU as seen by the various European media. As I see that you are a native Greek speaker interested in the Cypriot issues I was wondering if you would consider helping me. Needless to say, I don't speak Greek. However, I think it would be a shame if my thesis were to reflect only the views and topics covered in the countries such as Austria, Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands etc (in short, the countries whose languages I understand). Therefore, I would like to include a section on Greek and Cypriot media in my thesis. I am not only interested in Croatia's candidacy, but also in the wider subjects people associate with the EU. I left a more detailed list on my discussion page.

I will be more than grateful if you could leave me just a link to a Greek or Cypriot newspaper article that deals with any of the above subjects with a short summary such as for example: "XY is opposed to Turkey's membership because of the unresolved Cyprus issue" or "the membership of Croatia is bad because the constitutional treaty has been rejected in France and the Netherlands" or "party X is critical to Greece's membership in the eurozone because of..."

I will be sending this message to several other native Greek speakers. Also if you know a Wikipedian who could help me, please let me know. Of course, if you're not interested, please accept my apologies and feel free to erase the message. Thank you for your time. PGradStudent 11:06, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ioannis. Just a short note to thank you for the links to the Cypriot newspapers/articles. I have now enough information to compile both Greece and Cyprus section of my thesis. Thanks once again for all your time and effort. PGradStudent 16:09, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:ChrysostomosII.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ChrysostomosII.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Atik.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Atik.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:51, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Cselogo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cselogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 17:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Cselogo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cselogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 17:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Cselogo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cselogo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Athens-exchange-logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Athens-exchange-logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
