I appreciate you contributing to Wikipedia by adding screenshots but please don't forget to put the following tag on game screenshots as for some I had to add it for you:

{{game-screenshot}}

Thanks,

Ah, now I understand where you put that code. Okay, well, sorry for the mistake. I see that there are some images that dont have that tag on them, so I'll be sure to change them. Sean WI 01:10, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Sam Sloan talk page[edit]

Hello. Check out my response on the Sam Sloan talk page. If you look at the edit history, you may see that certain edits are unsigned--you may have reasonably believed by me, and not by the anonymous other. Plus you were correct that I erred in restoring certain deleted commments & not others; I assure you that this was accidental. The deleted comments actually bolstered my case....

I also respect your right to think I'm taking this way too far on WP. You're right that it is personal, but kindly check out the links I provided.... Regards, Billbrock 08:30, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Just saw what was done to the article Sam Sloan. You were correct to revert that, but there is some truth in the "vandalism." Billbrock 08:34, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mappery Magic[edit]

Hey there, fellow cartography student! I came across your user page and just thought I'd direct your attention to Category:Wikipedia requested maps and Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps/Requested and orphan maps. Those are both lists of articles for which an editor has asked that a map be made to help the reader understand the location, extent and distance of whatever topic the articles deal with. And so if you have the knowhow and equipment to design specific-purpose maps, it'd be great if you would consider making some and sharing them. =J //Big Adamsky 14:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eye image[edit]

Hi! I was wondering why you reverted the removal of the image "Nick_green.jpg". Is there a particular reason you find this absolutely necessary? There is already a picture of green eyes, and a very good one at that, on the page. Do you really think that the "nick" picture is better than the other one? If so, I invite you to share that reasoning on the talk page. Otherwise, it should be removed and stay removed. There is one picture for each eye color, so why is it necessary to have a second green picture (and in the wrong section, I might add)? Also, the caption is POV; I do not find the alleged color combination ("gray, green and gold") to be "startling". That sounds like a bit of egotripping for the guy who took the picture of himself. I could also call into question the accuracy of the caption: I see a green eye with an unnatural-looking orange band around the pupils. Also, no other caption mentions the origins of the person whose picture is displayed. The image for blue eyes mentions where the color is more prominent; "...in a male of Germanic descent" does not convey the same kind of information. InFairness 07:29, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was I who reverted the removal. I understand that there is already one photo of green eyes, but I believe this one is relevant too, but yes, the caption is a bit POVish. I think that the photographer who took the photo and uploaded it understands whose eye it is and would like to share for all wikipedians to enjoy. If you want, you can go ahead and change the caption, but I believe that this is a fabulous photo that looks great in wikipedia. That is all. 65.34.136.176 20:38, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lake wingra.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 16:52, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinates[edit]

Hey David,

I've been spending the better part of a day trying to find out who to talk with about a certain subject problem. I noticed that you were known for working with templates so I just decided to go directly to you. (whether it's actual help or showing my the right person to talk to) Okay, I recently noticed that the German Wikipedia had a nifty feature in which the coordinates of any location are inserted into the header of an article. Here is an example: [1]. I've found out that this is not possible in the English Wiki and that I'll need to discuss this with our community to see if it can get implimented. (Evidently it deals with CSS...I really don't know what that is) Someone mentioned that I should copy the German template and create a new one, which I did (found here: Template:CoorHeader. Now all that needs to be done, is to impliment the CSS into the main wikipedia code.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I tried the best I could. Now, would you know exactly what I should do in this situation? I'm gathering you've been in this situation before where you must present something to the wiki community. Thanks in advance. Sean WI 02:38, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This feature is quite handy, and I suggest that you propose its addition at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals). If it garners community consensus, it would be easy (from a technical standpoint) to implement. —David Levy 02:57, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply, David! I did what you suggested, and if you feel up to it maybe you could lend your support at the proposal page. Thanks again. Sean WI 03:13, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I certainly will, Sean, and you're very welcome! :-) —David Levy 03:18, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've addressed the technical issues so that the site-wide CSS code doesn't need changing to make {{CoorHeader}} work. Now, since it's such a visible thing, if we want to use it widely then it's going to have to get wide support as a new standard. I've written as much at the Village Pump. — Saxifrage 08:08, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I started a proposal at the Manual of Style here: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Geographical coordinates, de.wikipedia-style. Another editor linked to the WikiProject on Geographical Coordinates from there, where it has been discussed. Lets see if we can't make this idea popular! — Saxifrage 18:48, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Broken CoorHeader template[edit]

The CoorHeader template is broken when used with the Classic skin to Wikipedia. I haven't tried other skins, other than to note that it appears to work correctly with monobook. Lots of people use classic, so the template really shouldn't be used at the moment. I am not an expert in wiki markup, but I think absolute positioning is never going to work well.

I've removed the template from Auckland for the time being. Also, are you aware that Auckland already had the geographic co-ordinates in the infobox of the article?-gadfium 02:48, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you dont have anything to do with that. so why posting nonsense on my talk page then? at least you are irish, you irish people know how how it is when your nation, name and simply your existence is denied, you know how it is to always fight for your country, to always prove that you exist, macedonians and irish people have much in common. --Makedonia 22:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite. The Irish weren't created in the 1940s by a communist dictator out of an occupied Bulgarian population. This is outlined clearly enough at political views on the Macedonian language. Telex 01:18, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Probably it is the fifth time I am trying to preview this message. I hope I don't have to delete it again and write it from scratch. On the one hand, this article is very important to me. Not only because I've devoted a lot of time and effort, but also because I'd really want the world to know why everybody is bitching about the Macedonia name here. On the other hand, your last comment has puzzled me. Should I be happy or unhappy about you removing your opposition that way? I have no words.:NikoSilver: 17:15, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So the answer to happy or unhappy was simple: I should feel moved. I have busted and keep busting my head on how I could rewrite this article for two weeks. I have found no acceptable way so far. I can't resist to the present format...
[[Macedonia (foo)|Macedonia]] (as in foo) refers...
...because it illustrates reality here! We all mouse-over in our heads every time we say these terms! Please accept my sincere apologies for confronting you and if I offended you. It takes huge balls to go ahead and apologise. Only I came second. You can consider yourself more important to me than this fucking article now. Feel free to express your opinion. Feel free to just go ahead and edit its lights out to your preference. You can consider me your e-friend. :NikoSilver: 20:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:22, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Nanostray01.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Nanostray01.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 23:37, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Yoshids01.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Yoshids01.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FMF 14:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Pac-pixboxart.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pac-pixboxart.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 01:31, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Kalasha_map.gif[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kalasha_map.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article Kites on Ice has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
