Untitled[edit]

I've replaced the existing text with a short blurb that links to Markov process and Markov chain, following vfd discussion. Hth, Wile E. Heresiarch 15:23, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

"Refers to Markov" is not even a complete sentence, and a link to "Markov" is absurd for two reasons: (1) The page titled Markov is a disambiguation page; one would expect it to be either that or a redirect page; (2) even if it linked to the appropriate page, it does not make sense to refer simply to "Markov" without giving more than that name and saying who Markov was. Unless one begins by saying "In omphalology, ...", where "omphalology" is some field whose adepts all know who Markov was, it is unreasonable to assume the reader knows that. I have also put a POV warning on this page because the paragraphs following the word "Markovian" are about a topic rather remote from what the page claims to be about, i.e., Markovian stochastic processes. The fact that in some field such as computer science it has lately been all the rage to talk about Markov processes in no way implies that the field -- in this case computer science or perhaps artificial intelligence -- is important to the study of Markov chains.

To say

Something markovian would likely be regarded as being random

is strange. Markovian is an adjective that would apply only to stochastic (i.e. random) processes.

Probably this page should be redirected to Markov chain or Markov process, and any of its material that is relevant should be incorporated into that article. Michael Hardy 23:40, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I agree that this page should be redirected to Markov process. Redirecting to Markov chain would not be appropriate because not every process that is Markovian is a Markov chain (e.g. a process that is not stationary or homogeneous in time). So I second the idea of redirecting to Markov process. --chodges 05:34, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
