In its current state this article is incorrect. When a passive ring interferometer is used then a phase shift interference patterns is obtained. When a ring laser interferometer is used the interference pattern that can be obtained is a difference between two frequencies of laserlight, a beat frequency. The current article fails to make that distinction, instead characteristics of both types of interferometer are intermixed.

Correcting this article would result in duplicating information that is already present in the sagnac effect article and/or in the ring laser gyroscope article. Therefore I propose to merge anything useful into the Sagnac effect article, to change the current sagnac interferometer article to a redirect to the Sagnac effect articlel, and to change the links to sagnac interferometer into links to Sagnac effect

Merged[edit]

I have replaced the stub with a redirect to the Sagnac effect article. I have checked the 'What links here' list, and I have adapted the links in articles that linked to the redirect. --Cleon Teunissen | Talk 11:03, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
